Profundity

I just finished reading "Signs Preceding The End of the World". The club on goodreads with whom I read it found great depth in it that I could not.
Perhaps it was beyond me. Then again, it's been my experience that anything cryptic or impressionist gives the reader free reign to read anything into it s/he has thought about h/herself.
Who knows?

Don Jacobson Hate to suggest anything about mystic writings...or even the Scriptures...but lack of comprehension is either

1) Intentionally initiated...written to be so obscure as to be subject only to the interpretation of those who wrote it. Usually it is the Oracle at Delphi returning from having stuck her head in a SO2 vent. Her babbling then is translated by a minion who will provide a reading of the (insert the name of the made up god here) prophecy.

2) Unintentionally initiated...the writing is so confused and unreadable that no normal sane person can get beneath it. Then those who use those "holy" words to control others say "That is because you are too blinded to perceive the word of (pick the name of the god they have created).

In other words...it is not you!

Doug I just finished Signs (for the same group) and have to agree with you 100%...it didn't particularly resonate with me either, and I wound up giving it 2.5 (rounded up to 3) stars....
