Age of Myth paperback release day

Today the premium mass market paperback version of Age of Myth is released.

This means two things:

• The ebook price has come down. It's now under $10, which is important for those who have the "never above $10 for an ebook" rule.

• The print copy is much cheaper. Instead of paying $26 for the hardcover you can get the book in print for less than $10.

The book is available for sale at bookstores everywhere, and of course you can pick up a copy from my site to get one signed. I also still have hardcovers, which will be going out or print soonish. So you can choose either one.

This is the first time I'm released in the mass market paperback. Originally Del Rey wanted to do the trade paperbacks (like my Orbit books) and those tend to run $16 - $17 a pop. For myself, I preferred to have the smaller/less expensive size in the hopes that it will make it affordable for more people. I'm hoping this will help to spread the word on a debut book I'm already very happy with the sales.

If you like paperbacks rather than hardcovers - now is the time to get your copy. And as always, thanks for your support.

Carol Hi Michael,
Is the trade paper back available globally?? Will I be able to walk into my local book shop here in Ireland and grab a copy?

Rasmus Hello Michael

Are you keeping future books in the The Riyria Chronicles series in normal paperback? Would be nice if they looked like a set on the shelf and not a mix of paperback and mass market paperback :)

To be honest, I don't know. For my Riyria books (published through Orbit) I have both US and UK publishers. For the Legends series, no UK publisher has picked up that series yet. That said, I've still sold thousands of copies overseas through the distribution network that Penguin Random house has. I "think" anywhere that you could get the hardcover version you could now get the paperback version, but I'm not 100% sure how the distribution works given there is no "official" UK publisher. My best recommendation for people overseas is to buy through Book Depository. They offer free shipping to just about everywhere in the world and they have the paperback for sale for $7.72, which is a bargain in my eyes. So try that.

Not entirely sure what the size of a "normal paperback" is. But I can say this. In general my Riyria books have been published in two different paperback sizes -- the US trade paperback size and the UK paperback size. (They are slightly different).

When I released The Death of Dulgath - my goal was to have a hardcover version (which the other Riyria books don't have) and a trade paperback version that matched the size of the Orbit US trade paperbacks -- I was able to accomplish this because I did a large print run (which allowed me to make the book any size I wanted).

The next Riyria Chronicle (The Disappearance of Winter's Daughter) is going to be self-published. If I use POD (print-on-demand) technology it'll be just a "smudge" taller than the other Riyria books. But, I do plan on running a Kickstarter for it and with that being the case, I can once again produce it at the US trade paperback size so all those books will match in dimensions. If the Kickstarter doesn't fund, however, then I'll have to do the POD option - and the size won't be that different.

TL:DR version - yes, I'm going to try to keep Riyria Chronicle #4 the same size as the other US versions, assuming a Kickstarter to support a print run funds.
