Writing Prompt #8--The Knock Over

Imagine you’re reading a heist story about a team of experts planning to knock over a bank. They go over the technical specs, escape routes, vehicles, weapons, etc. Along the way, it comes out that two of them are spellcasters. A third’s good with spirits of the dead. Then there's the demon with the yo-yo. Yes, these “people” are about to knock over a bank. The thing is . . . this ain’t a normal bank with normal defenses. What happens next?

Chris Hughes A hue of blue illuminates an otherwise dark alleyway, as a portal from there to here opens and four criminals step out. Their eyes adjust before anyone moves, and then no one moves without looking around first. Cars move on the city streets at both ends of the alley, trash blown from nearby dumpsters add character and an unmistakable smell of someone’s week old lunch. A single door, steel in design lines the wall next to them and they know right away, the game is on. The first man moves to the door and examines it, he runs his tattooed hand flat against the door, and closes his eyes. He is the infiltrator, no door has ever held against him and he has never been seen at a crime scene. The other three spread out around him, Each looking in different directions. His tattoos light up in a low shade of red and slowly transfer to the door. An audible click can be heard, followed by a second. He moves away from the door and watches as a second man walks to the door, takes the knob and looks at him, waiting. The Infiltrator sits down on the ground in the middle of the alley and crosses his legs, he puts his hands on his lap and breathes deeply, The tattoos on his arm that had gone dark come to life again shining a dim shade of blue. It seems as if nothing has changed, but without opening his eyes, he nods.
He is known as the Architect, while he can use any magic, he prefers the ground magic, it comes to him easily and at times it reacts on its own to protect him. He catches a faint glow of green behind him and turns his head to see eye to eye with a skeleton. He jumps back for a second, caught off guard by the arrival of a fifth member. He looks over his shoulder to a grinning Necromancer. He turns back to the door and turns the handle. As soon as the door opens an alarm sounds, piercing, but they ignore it, no one panics. He starts to move, but the Skeleton steps in front of him and trots into the room. Instantly the room fills with brilliant red light and a fireball streaks across the room. The skeleton turns to ash then a pile on the ground. The Architect makes a raising motion with his hand and a wall of stone pulls up around the fire trap blocking its view, and he steps aside again as a second skeleton walks into the room. It makes it to the door on the far side before a second fireball removes its existence. Again the Architect pulls up a wall and the third Skeleton reaches the door and opens it.
The Necromancer follows the Architect into the room, followed by the fourth man who looks overly bored playing with his yo-yo. They look at him as the sound of walk the dog skitters across the floor breaking the silence. He pulls it back and makes the pendulum swing. Through the next door they see a large room with a large vault door in the middle, spokes sticking out on all sides to turn. The skeleton trots out on the the floor and a zap of electricity fills the room, the third skeleton is no more. The Architect again raises his arms and holds them up, the room becomes bisected a wall of stone forms from the doorway to the vault. The fourth skeleton trots out onto the floor and passes haplessly to the vault door.
The Architect stays at the doorway, his hand up high. The Necromancer passes into the room followed by the fourth member of their party. They move to the vault door where the skeleton is trying so hard to turn the spokes. The Necromancer holds out his hand, and the fourth man they call him the Demon, puts his yo-yo into his hand. Instantly the Demon’s hand turns black, his fingers become long and his nails sharp. His height doubles and his skin becomes scales, fangs protrude from his jaw and horns pop from his skull. He brushes the skeleton out of the way and sizes up the vault door, He puts one hand into the right side, burying his claws deep and the other hand into the left.. He twists his arms and the door comes free, instead of dropping it, he slams it into the back wall, removing the last trap and a camera in one shot.
The room fills with a brilliant green glow as he turns around. Fifty skeletons are grabbing bags, scrolls and jewels. As much as they can carry before leaving the room and exiting to the alley way. The demon walks back over and takes the yo-yo out of the Necromancer’s still extended hand, and slowly begins to shrink back his other self. They follow the skeletons out after the last piece of value has been acquired. The Architect joins them as they pass back into the alleyway, his stone barricades dissolving back into the ground. The blue on the Infiltrators arms are brilliant as the sky above the bank is filled with fireballs, alarms and what appears to be magic wielders trying to enter the unseen barrier that is protecting them. One arm changes to a different shade of blue and the portal from here to there, reappears directly beside him. Quickly the skeletons pass through, followed by the Necromancer. The Architect and the Demon, lift the Infiltrator and carry him through. With his connection severed, the barrier disappears, the portal vanishes and the once quiet night is filled with alarms and magic police. Other than one destroyed bank vault door and three piles of ash spread out across the floor, there is no evidence that they were there at all.
