And then it was done

I did it!

I penned the words every author looks forward to in her/his novel, 'the end'.

Awesome, right?

Well, sort of. It's really just the beginning of inhaling countless M&M's, Oreos, Starbucks frapps, and a whole array of countless calories otherwise known as edits. Yes. The beat goes on for the writer long after they hit that final scene. Some of us find it a yummier experience than others.

For writers; Do you feel euphoric or deflated when you hit that final page?

For readers;  When you hit the last page of a good book, do you feel satisfied or sad that it's over?

Shelly A bit of both really :-) If I really fall in love with the characters in a book then I feel sad that it's over & when a books good I feel satisfied to know how where it all ended up. Can't wait for your next book x

message 2: by Addison (new)

Addison Moore Thank you Shelly! And I feel the same way about ending a good book.

message 3: by Jenn (new)

Jenn Well, with Tremble you left me like a crack head needing a fix! Series tend to stress me out because I am the type of person that reads like crazy and hates to stop because I......MUST......FINISH!
But once they last book comes out, depending on how good the author is, I feel a little sad but mostly just sated. Soooooooo just waiting on you now...

message 4: by Addison (new)

Addison Moore Jenn, That really puts a fire under me. I looove getting great feedback like that, so thank you! I'm the same way when I'm reading. Especially if I know I have a wait a year until the next book hit the shelves. Mine will be out soon. ;)

message 5: by Jenn (new)

Jenn Oh I beg you, please don't be one of those authors that makes me wait 365 days!!!!!! With authors like that I tend to wait until atleast 2-3 books are out before I bother. There are a few that snuck under my trilogy- series radar....( growl)

message 6: by Addison (new)

Addison Moore LOL! I would never. I have a hard time letting people wait two months. That's what's SO great about being an indie. There are no rules and for sure no time constraints. =)

Yeah I know the feeling...I do the same too. I have some books that went into Wait-till-sequel pile. No matter how tempting (CoFA), better to wait for sequel than torture ourselves for a whole year, though some have snuck under my radar too (cough Crescendo). I was so eager to read Cresendo, I didn't bother reading reviews, just jumped right in and I actually thought pages were missing. Learned my lesson, now I always read reviews to make sure there is no cliff hanger.

message 8: by Jenn (new)

Jenn Grey eyes was the most recent one for me, I downloaded it late when I was sleepy....got through 3 chapters and I quit reading it because i noticed there is supposed to be a sequel.
I refuse to do that to myself any longer.
That is the one thing that has turned me on to Indie writers and edging away from main stream.
That, the prices and the work seems so much better to me.
The most important reason that keeps me staying and paying for certain Indie writers is their ability (or Choice) to actually respond and listen to their fans.
Addison really seems to genuinely care and she's really funny. Added to the fact that she takes time out of what I am sure a busy schedule to respond, I'll be a loyal reader.

message 9: by Addison (new)

Addison Moore Angel - I agree about waiting forever esp. when a cliff hanger is involved! Torture, right? And with reviews I do and don't pay attention, just depends how bad I want to read the book.

Jenn, I've never thought of waiting until the series is complete before starting a series, but I have found myself late to the party so to speak and just gotten into a series once it's complete. And BTW, I LUV to respond to readers and writers. I love connecting with people. =)

Agreed...that's one thing I like about you Addison. When I read your book Ethereal, am looking forward to ask you any questions I have (which I usually do). I usually do a brain dump in my review if I have any questions, since we don't have access to all the writers. I just finished Passion, I wish I could ask Lauren all my questions.

message 11: by Addison (new)

Addison Moore Angel - I'll be happy to answer anything as best as I can w/out future spoilers of course. ;)

message 12: by LeAnn (new)

LeAnn It's a mixture of both for me. I feel this sense of peace I guess when I finish a book, like I accomplished something. Hard to describe. But I'm also sad that it's over, which is why I love a good series of books. One book just doesn't cut it for me anymore lol.

As far as writing goes, I would be ecstatic if I could finish a book! I can certainly start one, but completely it is like asking me to climb mount everest... Ok, maybe not so extreme, but you get my point. It seems impossible even though I know it's not. So if I ever overcome those incredible odds, I will probably feel like a new person.

message 13: by Tyra (last edited Jun 17, 2011 03:53PM) (new)

Tyra Lynn As a reader, I have to agree with others that it's a mixture of both. I love that satisfied feeling of a resolution, but the characters also become real people to me. I will actually catch myself sometimes wondering "what they're doing now." Maybe thats the 'writer' part of me, since my characters are little people that run around in my brain, lol. Do other readers ever do that-actually wonder what characters are up to after the book/series ended, or is it just me? :-/

As a writer, the only thing more satisfying to me than writing "The end" (or in my case "finis")is a good review or appreciative email. That makes my day, my week, my month and my year, lol. But "finis" is a close second.

I'm with you on the stand alone books, they're harder to digest knowing the end will be, well, the end.

And as for writing, you go girl! One step at a time and you'll get there. =)

Oh I for sure have to map out where I think the characters ended up way after the end. I actually like the books that take you way into the future even if it's in a brief paragraph or two.

And I love that you sat, finis.

message 16: by Taddy (new)

Taddy Oh yes, love that you don't make us wait. I was very lucky to find Ethereal after Tremble came out, so I read them back to back, which was a treat. But then again, it made me want book 3 very very badly, although I had a good long Gage/Logan fix to get me through.
I have to tell you Addsion, your supporting characters are really what make your books for me, I think Bri & Drake are an absolute riot. I absolutely adore when a writer takes enough care, time and has the finesse to polish even the most secondary characters in a series. It makes the reading experience so much more satisfying. And as an adult who likes to read YA paranormal fiction, purely because it's a fabulous vacation from the every day doldrums of life, it's so refreshing to indie gems like you. I am a very fast reader who reads 2-3 books a week, and I am the type to start what I finish, so sometimes I torture myself. Thank you for providing 2 of the best YA paranormal fiction I have read yet. Can't wait for the rest of your career....
Alrighty I will stop gushing now, I had to get that out of my system. You really deserve to hear just how incredible your work is.

Addison Moore Taddy - WOW!!!!!!! That might just be the nicest stuff anyone has ever said about my writing! Thank you, thank you and THANK you!!! =)

Taddy I only write the truth. I read a lot. And it really makes me all giddy inside to actually have an author care enough to develop ALL the characters in a book, I mean Addison, even the house had a personality. Kudos!
I don't know, maybe I'm strange but I just really really appreciate it when I can read truly well developed books in every sense.

Thank you Chanda! It's so encouraging to hear nice things. I really hope you'll like book 3. I'm almost done with the cover art, so hopefully I'll post that Monday. =)

message 21: by Taddy (new)

Taddy Ooh I can't wait to see the new cover art! Your covers are so gorgeous, and very inviting to the reading. They alone make you want to find out what the story is behind the beauty!

I do wonder what my fave characters from the series that become near and dear to me are doing now. I think the for anyone who loves to read, characters become part of your "world" for awhile, and it's good for our creative spirit to wonder about these "people" from time to time. It's also to me, a sign of an excellent author.

Taddy, I think I have to agree with everything you've said on this post, from your assessment of Addison's story-weaving ability, to the beauty of the cover art, and to the characters (hers and others) becoming part of your world for a while. That is the true beauty of a well-written story, that creation of beings who take on a life all their own. And in all honesty, how do we know they don't really exist somewhere, or some time...
;)

Taddy- re; wondering about the characters, I do the same thing and not just with my own books. There are some books that I wish would have lasted forever.

Tyra - Thank you for the generous compliment! And as far as characters go, when I read a book and they become real to me that is one of the best gifts the author can give me. It almost does feel as though I've read about something real.

message 26: by Taddy (new)

Taddy A well written tale is about real emotions, real words, in essence real people. I want to get transported to a world taken from real life, but better. We all want to disappear for awhile and read about other people for awhile when we read.
That's what I feel a really gifted author has done for me after I've become involved in a book.
Addison, you can do just that. This world lives in you, and through you it lives out here and gets to us....

Tyra, i'm going to add you as a friend, we think alike!
