I would love you to focus on books Patrick. Just a suggestion from big fan... Or maybe not that big anymore... As time flies my excitement is fading away. I'm sure I'm not the only one.
Man...what an ass. Tak is awesome and only enhances my enjoyment of the books. There's plenty on my bookshelf to get through in the meantime.
Pawel, I have something you can read while you're waiting for book 3: http://journal.neilgaiman.com/2009/05...
Melissa wrote: "Pawel, I have something you can read while you're waiting for book 3: http://journal.neilgaiman.com/2009/05..."That is a great article and a valid one. Mr. Rothfuss has mentioned it several times, but it does not apply to his situation or Pawel's frustration. It is great that he likes to do charity work. It is awesome that he uses his celebrity to do that. Most people know about his charities though only from his celebrity. Most people that subscribe to his various internet feeds do so to find out about his next book. The fact that he continually uses the feeds that people subscribe to in order to find out about his next book to spam people with information about his charity work does create an obligation. It may the most well meaning spam ever, but it is still spam to most of his subscribers. Comments like the one Pawel made should be taken seriously by Mr. Rothfuss. No one really cares what he does with his free time and anyone that does is wrong to feel entitled. People do care, and have a right to care about what he does with our free time. When he sends us spam or fills his blog up with information that is not interesting to his subscribers he uses up their free time (even if it is just the amount of time it takes to determine this article is not about the next book). What Pawel and others are really trying to say is that Mr. Rothfuss is not creating enough content to justify the amount of spam he sends us. If he wishes to continue to do the good work he is doing using the platform he has from his role as an author he needs to finish his book. Frankly, he is losing his platform.
The fallacy in that is the assumption people only follow Patrick, or any other author/artist/creator to find out about their next piece. If all I cared about was a new book, there's no reason to follow a blog where someone posts about whatever they damn well feel like posting about, I would look at a publisher's or bookstore's release listing or something like that. I for one follow a blog, which is a form of journal, to see what other projects someone is working on, what is going on in their world, what they are getting inspiration from and the like. Never mind the fact that, when said project is directly related to the book series, it seems like the kind of thing people who are fans of the books would like to be informed about.
Everyone legitimately has their own perspective on it, but truly many of us follow Pat to find out about the release date for the possibly-never-to-be-released next installment. Yes, he has his own life to live and is free to spend his time however he wishes. But by the same token, the rest of us are free to have been eager to read the next book, and as time goes by many of us become less inclined to care anymore.
Thank you all for suggestions and opinions. All points taken and understood. You are right - there is so much more on the fantasy table. No point fighting for one book. It will come when the time is right. In the meantime I can catch up on something else. Started The First Law and love it. Thank you again!
