Busy, busy, busy

I should probably update this thing more frequently than I do. It's just that I get busy doing things and the last thing on my mind is my website. I hardly ever update my Facebook page... It's just a lot to think about.

So, since I last created a post, I got a fence in the backyard and have been painting each slat to resemble the spine of a book that I love. Sometimes my friends come over and paint with me. So far, my favorite spines are those found in the Harry Potter series.

When I got tired of painting (it hurts my back, you know, because of how I need to lean in order to complete the lettering), I wrote a book. The idea came to me in a dream. I couldn't get the dream out of my head and I mentioned it to my friend Kristin. She told me to "Write the dream." I told her that the concept was SO WEIRD. She said to do it anyway. So I did.

The rough draft was finished in a week. I've been tweaking it ever since. Now I'm shopping for an agent. This thing is going places. I can feel it. Do I love it more than Just Whistle and Like A Flip Turn? Not necessarily. But it's better. The idea is ridiculous, the characters are absolutely great, and the writing is some of my best. Different, though. This one isn't all about the imagery, and that's sooooo unlike me.

Anyway, you'll have to stay tuned if you wanna find out the new book's plot.

Hire a chipmunk to say "hello"

I just posted some Woodland Creature stationery on Etsy and I'm so excited about it because the little critters are so stinkin' cute! Granted, the cards are square and will require a bit of extra postage, but it's so worth it because you can send little furry-footed fellows to your friends via mail! Check them out by clicking on the picture below:

I made an Etsy shop!

After thinking about it for a very, very long time, I went ahead and set up an Etsy shop. Right now, it is mostly filled with paper pups and kitties, but there are some trees and a couple of cardinals, too. Oh! And a flamingo. I'm going to be adding some Woodland Creatures stationery in the near future, and who knows what else, but the thing that I'm having the most fun with at the moment is a new series called "Terrible Terriers." It's inspired by my own terriers, Arlo (an Airedale) and Augusta...

Technology is great when it works...

So... you know how you can link two email addresses so you get all of your emails in one inbox? Well, I tried to do that back in 2017. It apparently didn't work because I just logged into my email account that is strictly for art/writing and found that I had 600+ emails that I'd never read. Oops.I missed an opportunity to sell my art at a fundraiser in West Virginia, I missed two or three emails about purchasing art displayed at 82 Coffee in town and on my website, and I missed an opportunity...

I Know Some Cool People

Hey-hey!I just added a whole bunch of pictures to my website, courtesy of the best boss ever: Beth Graham! We did a little art swap. She took photographs of all the pieces I made for my art show, and then I made this piece for her:The content is Sydney, Olivia, Max, and Oreo... and they appear in the order that the Graham family acquired them. Pretty neat, right?Another cool person in my life is Kathy, my very best friend. Kathy has two little boys, a full-time job, and she just completed her...

My first art show!

Last night was a big night! A big OPENING night... for my art show at the Garryowen Irish Pub in Gettysburg! I'm pretty exhausted from the experience, so this long-overdue update will be short and disjointed, but I did want to list the high points of the evening:1. My dentist came to my show! And not only did my dentist come, but he brought his entire team of hygienists! Littlestown Dental Associates is a great place to get your teeth cleaned, so if you're in the market for a new dentist, you...

An overdue update...

Lately, I haven't been in much of a writing mood. I have, however, been creating an awful lot of art. But that's always the way it goes, you know? I cycle through these phases of reading, writing, and tearing/cutting paper. Therefore, I've decided to update this website to incorporate theotherartsy side of myself. Check it out, and if you want a piece of your own, send me an email and we can discuss what you have in mind!(I've been on kind of an octopus kick lately...)

Flooded

[image error]Wow. I've been away from this blog for quite a while...and without any good reason as to why. We're talking over four months, people, which is the amount of time that my writer/blogger friend, Victoria Griffin, took off when she suffered aterribleconcussion. You should read her story because it's wild, it's scary, and it's inspiring. It made me want to learn more about concussions because 1) I've never had one, and 2) I work in a school where random children seem to experience concussions pre...

Church & Spiders

Some of my very favorite kids are graduating from high school on Thursday, so today I did something that Irarelydo. I went to church. I know, right?! But that is the truth: I really and truly did.The baccalaureate ceremony was fine, but I'll openly admit that I was distracted through the whole thing because there were these two spiders by my right foot who were not getting along especially well. The one spider was small and nimble (we'll call her Clarisse); the other spider was much larger

Just in time for summer!

Here's some news: Like A Flip Turn, my first published novel (released originally as an ebook), will soon be available in paperback. Look for it in early June; I'll keep readers informed of an exact date via Facebook and Twitter. The publication of Flip Turn has been a long time coming and the reason for that is due to the fact that Jenny Johnson, one of the narrators, has synesthesia. This means that she sees words in color. Since I chose to make some of those words visible to the reader, thi...
