Berit Kalmar is one of a kind. One of those people that will be part of a shuttle launch on Monday and eating hot dogs with hobos on the tracks on Saturday. This sort of understanding of humanity is what has defined most of her work. She's Swedish—from a small town called Kalix up in the far north. When she was 16 she wanted to get some experience overseas and moved to Sandusky, Ohio.

This past Friday, we wrapped up our third volume of stories: Damion Searls, Heidi Julavits, Jenny Offill, Jim Shepard, Scarlett Thomas and 45 other talented writers helped us raise over $1,750.00 for Girls Write Now. We're working furiously behind the scenes on more Significant Objects stuff, of one kind and another; please stay tuned for news about these doings. SO v3 concluded: nearly $1,750 for Girls Write Now!
Thank you readers, writers, and bidders, for another successful volume of Significant Objects! Our final v3 auction concluded moments ago. Between February 22 and today, we've used 50 stories by our talented contributors to convert a trifling $58.28 worth of thrift-shop bric-a-brac into a whopping $1,748.82, every penny of which will be donated to Girls Write Now.
