Kirkus Review of THE SHELTERLINGS
Absolutely thrilled with this lovely review from Kirkus for my next kids book, THE SHELTERLINGS! Holly would be SO happy to be referred to as an impressive rodent hero!

Where Ideas Come From
This is a weasel riding a woodpecker (photo by Martin Le-May).

And below is the cover for my next MG novel for kids, THE SHELTERLINGS (coming in June from HarperCollins / Clarion Books), in case you ever wondered where ideas come from.

Granted, in the photo, things aren't going well for the woodpecker, whereas in THE SHELTERLINGS, Holly (the squirrel) and Gus (the owl) are best friends. Then again, the woodpecker and weasel probably aren't about to meet a dragon...

Gift Giving Guide 2021
If you're looking to give someone a book by me this holiday season (and if so, thank you and I love you!), but you don't know which one to give to which person on your list, I thought I'd put together a little gift guide:
For the reader who watched the extended edition of The Lord of the Rings, dabbled in D&D, and/or remembers the Dragonlance books fondly... THE BONE MAKER, an epic fantasy about five heroes 25 years after they defeated an evil wizard and his bone army.
For the reader who thinks the Indy-500 would be better if the cars had a lot more teeth and tentacles... RACE THE SANDS, an epic fantasy about monster racing.
For the reader who likes kick-ass women and very tall trees... THE QUEEN OF BLOOD, Book One of the Queens of Renthia, an epic fantasy series about bloodthirsty nature spirits.
For the teen who likes snark... DRINK SLAY LOVE, a YA fantasy about a 16-year-old vampire girl who is stabbed through the heart by a were-unicorn and develops a very inconvenient conscience.
For the quiet kid or the kid who loves dragons... SPARK, a fantasy novel for kids ages 8-12 about a quiet girl and her lightning dragon, who learn you don't need to change yourself to change the world.
For the kid who loves cats... CATALYST, a fantasy book for kids ages 8-12 about a girl who finds a tiny kitten that grows and grows and grows... and then starts talking!
For the kid who always wanted to walk through a portal to another world... EVEN AND ODD, a fantasy novel for kids ages 8-12 about two sisters who share magic. Also starring a unicorn named Jeremy.
For more info on these and any of my other books, please visit www.sarahbethdurst.com.
And if you'd like a signed bookplate (a clear sticker that I'd personalize and you can stick inside any of my books to transform them into signed books) for yourself or for a gift, please drop me an email (sarah AT sarahbethdurst DOT com), and I'd be happy to mail you one (US only).
Happy holidays, and thanks for reading!

Bones
Got an amazing present from my amazing friend, Deb Fisher. She's a maker (https://www.instagram.com/fishmuseum), and I dedicated THE BONE MAKER to her, so she made me a pouch of bones carved with spells from my book! How cool is this?!? I love it (and her) so much!
