Surrender to Guru

Every time Ifind myself getting somewhat lost or scattered in the multiplicity of noises coming from here and there, Ifeelthis deep need to go back to the basics, I mean the most basic fundamentals of the path I aspire to pursue. This is one of the ways I have discoveredwhich helps me to re-gainmy inner poise, to re-center myself, to re-kindle and steady that flickering flameof aspiration.

A recent journey of this kind took me to a sentence I had written in one of my notebooks. This is frommy...

An Afternoon at Ajanta

First published in Next Future, an e-magazine of Sri Aurobindo Society (July 2016)

“The first and lowest use of Art is the purely aesthetic, the second is the intellectual or educative, the third and highest the spiritual. By speaking of the aesthetic use as the lowest, we do not wish to imply that it is not of immense value to humanity, but simply to assign to it its comparative value in relation to the higher uses. The aesthetic is of immense importance and until it has done its work, mank...

Show Me the Money!

Money is the talk of the town these days, actually of the whole nation. And of course, we know the reason.

From the corrupt politicians whose stacks of cash suddenly became useless overnight to the mafiaof the fake currency industry who found themselvesout of business;from terrorists of all hues and their propagandists who reliedon loads of cash to carry out their sinister inhumane agendas to some ofthe biggest tax-evaders who hoarded cash;from small and medium traders whose businesses mostl...

“Nobody can take Him away!”

P1010692 P1010703

Yes, nobody can take Him away. Nobody.

“वो यहाँ से जाने वाले नहीं…हम उनहें जाने ही नहीं देंगे…उनहें यहाँ से कोई नहीं ले जा सकता है…” (He is not the one to go from here…we won’t let Him go. Nobody can take Him away.)

This was declared softly and simply by Maniram, the soft-spoken, pleasant, somewhat shy and gentle-manneredmiddle-aged taxidriver we had hired for the two days we spent in March of this year in Dwarka, Gujarat. In fact, as we found out later, Maniramwas also the owner of thi...

Nine, who are One

Navaratri special post:

aditi-10

Nine nights of the Divine Mother. Some invoke Her in nine forms and names, some in three, some in four, some innumerable.

“The One whom we adore as the Mother is thedivine Conscious Force that dominates all existence, one and yetso many-sided that to follow her movement is impossible even forthe quickest mind and for the freest and most vast intelligence. The Mother is the consciousness and force of the Supreme and farabove all she creates. But something of her ways ca...

Beautiful Little Happy Things

What do we do whensome big stuff in life doesn’t go the way we would have liked it to go?Of course, it is the dark ignorancewecarry and in which we are steeped that makes us assume that we somehow havethis rightto expect that things in life and world would go the way we want them to go!

So what do we do when things go haywire, or at least don’t go the way we had expected them to go? We cry. We shout. We agitate. We yell. We cry some more. Why, why, o why? Why is the world so harsh on me? Why...

हिंदी दिवस के अवसर पर…On Hindi Day

Language is the sign of the cultural...
