Launch party!

I have good friends - really good friends. Not only do they put with me when I get overly excited with every review I get, but on release day, they took me out for a meal to celebrate.

Victoria, (the same Victoria the book is dedicated too), found an American smokehouse in Hull which I never knew existed, and took me and a few people from work, there so we could try some traditional Southern food. As it was also Mardis Gras, she also made some fabulous masks (which you can see in the pictures below).

And did I mention the card and champagne?

I'm one of the lucky ones who enjoys her job - and these guys are why!! I HAD MY FIRST SHRIMP PO'BOY IN YEARS AND IT WAS AMAZING!!! (Yes, that statement required capital letters.)

I'm going to take this opportunity to turn my blog post into a food review, because that sandwich was that good! I had a corn dog for starters (weird craving), which was delicious. The po'boy was chock full of shrimp, and had a huge helping of sweet potato fries with it. Finishing it up was a slice of Pecan Pie. Again, delicious. Actually, everything that came out looked amazing, and to top it off, was excellent value for money.

My only complaint was the dirty rice. It wasn't dirty rice. It was, at best, spiced rice, which don't get me wrong, was tasty. But I wanted my ground meat and sticky/sloppy consistency.

That being said, now that I know this place exists, I will be back - and they have a takeout menu too. Unfortunately, I've just made myself hungry by writing this. I think I'll be back soon!

Angel, the Adorable guide dog

Picture I want you all to meet Angel. She's a seeing dog for the blind. Or at least, she's an adorable puppy who is going to grow up to be a seeing dog.

I don't believe in New Year's Resolutions: if I want to change something in my life, why should I wait until January 1st to make them?

I do, however, believe in paying it forward and helping out where I can.

Sponsoring a Guide Dog is something that I've wanted to do for a long time but I've never been in a position (until now) to be able to help, and call it clichéd, but when I saw a puppy called Angel wanting to be sponsored, I took it as a sign that it was time to pay the karma forward.

I'm going to receive regular updates on how she's doing, so I'll be sure to keep y'all updated too. I can't wait to see this little cutie grow up and settle in with someone.

November 8, 2014

November is moving quickly!

I originally planned to participate in NaNoWriMo this month. I had hoped to have finished the first draft of book 2, so that I could get a start on book 3. That didn't happen. So I decided I would write 40k to finish off book 2, so I could write 10k of book 3. So far, this hasn't happened.

Why?

Well, I got busy with other things. First was this website.

Next was this: Picture This was created by the incredibly talented Amalia Chitulescu and I can't begin to express how  thrilled I am with this cover. It is beautiful!

And to top it all off, C. L. Stone has released her next book in the Academy series, House of Korba. *Sigh* So much to do, so little time... I need to go work on book 2 now.

October Update

It has been a while since the last post. I've been busy with many, many things.

First of all, I have had Angel in Training with the editor. It's still there, but should be finished soon, which will mean samples and excerpts can be shared soon. It's been interesting to read the comments - mainly because I have read this myself so many times now (on my kindle, on my phone, two printed versions, and goodness knows how many on screen times) and I still managed to miss things. Hopefully, this will now mean a polished, error free manuscript for all you lovelies.

I have tracked down someone to do my cover, and she should be working on that soon. I'm so excited about it - her work is beautiful. When I have a clue when it will be finished, I will share the artwork with you. And her details (call me selfish, but I don't want to give anything away!)

Outside of writing, the academic year has started and Freshers have hit Hull. For me, that means the DJing has started up again. Honestly, you have no idea how much I miss this during the summer. There's nothing that compare to the moment when you put a song on and the room goes wild.

Friday night I was asked to do the commercial side of a Silent Disco. If you've never been to one before, it's where the people attending wear headphones and have the option of switching between two channels - mine (commercial, cheese, dance) and the other had indie and rock on it.

The highlight of the week for me, it beat out the Tower Beach Party (Tower is the name of the night I DJ, the Beach party is the first one of the year, and what I usually consider to be my best night of the year), which in itself was epic - over 3000 people through the door and such an amazing atmosphere.

Actually, it was one point in the night. I put on a song. The song received a ridiculous cheer. Then I had the entirety of the club singing along, complete with dramatic arm movements. The song, you ask? Picture Let it go.

No kidding - the whole room.

And yes, I was singing along, doing my best Elsa impression too.

September 6, 2014

And so it began...

Back in 2011 I was in a job I didn't like, mainly because there was nothing to do. Seriously - I watched ten seasons of Family Guy at the time. But I can't complain too much, because that was when Angel in Training was started.

Actually, that's a lie. One paragraph in and I'm already lying...

I started typing this out and then deleted it. To explain where the story came from I have to go further back. Not too far back - just to 2005.

At this point I was in my third year (of four) of an American Studies degree. I won't say much more on the degree - you can see the About C. L. Coffey page if you want to know why I took that - other than the fact that my third year was to be spent abroad in Louisiana.

The moment I stepped off the plane, I knew I was 'home'. Even now, that place has claimed a large chunk of my heart, and I go back out there as often as I can. Louisiana is where I met a good friend, and it was because of her that I was back out there in 2010, for her wedding. And it was because of her that Angel in Training started to take shape.

Fast forward to late 2011. After watching Family Guy, and several other shows, I moved on to writing. At first it was FanFiction (again, more information on that, see the author bio page), but then I realised I had a story to tell which the FanFiction just couldn't cover. So I started writing. I didn't even plot it. The story just flowed.

For two months I did little else at work. (Again, no exaggeration.) The story was 90% complete. Sadly, as the story was ending, so was my job. The reason I was doing nothing was because there was nothing to do, and they realised that things weren't great financially, I was made redundant.

I'm going to skip six months now. The highlights of this period were that I was in a job that I hated and as such, didn't want to write. Maybe one day I will tell you what happened, but for now, that's all you need to know.

It took me a while to get back into writing again, but I did because Angel's story wasn't finished. So I wrote. And once I'd finished writing, I started editing. And editing, and editing. And then it was done. Or at least, I was.
Picture I know how you feel, Dean And that's where I am now. Actually, it's being edited again - but by someone else now.

I've decided that it's ready (or at least it will be after editing), and it is time for this story to get out there.

I'm aiming to publish in February. So far, I'm on track, and I'm going to keep you updated all the way.
