Cover Reveal – Paralyzed (Vagabond Circus, #2)

Please judge my books by their covers. Do it. I stake a lot in the hope that readers will pause when scrolling and be drawn into the images on my books. Andrei Bat has now done nine covers for me. Today we start the 10th. I could fill up this blog with compliments about this designer. But what I love most about his designs are the vibrant colors. And this cover probably is one of my favorites for that reason. And poor Andrei churns out incredible covers even though I’m a little scattered brained with my instructions. Below is what I attached to the brief for this cover. No my four-year old didn’t paint this. I did.

And from that, Andrei pulls magic out of a hat. It’s my honor to reveal the incredible cover for the second book in the Vagabond Circus series. Second books in a series are like middle children. They don’t get as much attention as the first or doted on like the last. But they do bond a family together. And if this cover is any indication, I think this book is going to be the best middle child of any of my series. It’s darker, more magical, and sexier than book one. Preorder here.

I Get Blamed for Everything.

The other day a nice woman told me I made her cry. It wasn’t long after that that a lady told me I almost ran her off the road, making her nearly have an accident. And today I got an email. It was short. It said, “Sarah, you’re cruel.”

I’m not a jerk. I promise.

I’m a writer.

And my stories affect people. They make people laugh, and cry, and feel, and nearly miss their exit. And I’m not sure how to feel about this. I’ll tell you one thing, I don’t feel bad. To make another person feel something outside themselves, that’s the ultimate goal as a writer.

If you tell me I made you miss your Tube stop, I apologize. I’m sorry for your misfortune. I’m sorry that you have this inconvenience in your life. However, if I took you out of your reality, made you pause in a new one, then I’m grateful.

I’m not responsible for major marketing campaigns. I’m not an executive of some sales department. I’m an author. And if I’m doing my job, then I’m making you forget about yours.

Launch Day – Vagabond Circus Series

In May of 2015 I took my daughter to Circus Vargus. The idea of the show appealed to me because animals weren’t used. Mostly it was a show filled with acrobats and clowns. My daughter was ready to go by the time the flying trapeze was done, and so was I. Instantly I was infected by an idea. A circus with a cast of people gifted with super powers. The jugglers would be telekinesis. The acrobats had super strength or could levitate. And the magician, well he created real illusions. The possibilities were endless. And on the walk to the car a book idea was born in my mind. But I didn’t just want a circus with unique people who created real magic. I wanted a circus full of amazing people who were flawed. And so I decided that everyone in the troupe would be a vagabond of sorts. Drifters, recovering addicts, rejects, orphans. This is not your average circus. There’s actually nothing like it.

Today I’ve released the first book in the Vagabond Circus series, Suspended. There are no clowns or animals. What the reader will find in the folds of this book are characters who restore inspiration to the hearts of everyone in the crowd. They’re also riddled with demons and desires, and suppressed by rules. And yet, that’s not the biggest issue. Vagabond Circus is completely unaware that someone lurks in their ranks preparing to destroy what they love most. Join the circus here!

Cover Reveal – Suspended (The Vagabond Circus, #1)

I’m excited to announce that the first book in my new series now has a face. Cover design is one of my favorite parts of producing a finished product. I take it very seriously. Some may be open to ideas, but I usually know exactly what I want my covers to look like.

Here’s the vision I had for Suspended, book one in the Vagabond Circus series. I sent this over to my cover designer, Andrei Bat, and gave him permission to laugh at my stick figures.

I’m a writer. Not an artist. Andrei is an artist and this is how he interrupted my vision. It truly exceeded my expectations. It’s my honor to unveil the cover for the first book in the Vagabond Circus series. Preorder and read synopsis here.

REN – Official Release Day

Today Ren: The Man Behind the Monster was officially released on Kindle and paperback. There’s also many other exciting things in the works for this book. Mums the word that though.

This novel is extremely dear to me. This character literally won’t go away. He’s the man in my dreams. Not of my dreams, mind you. He often enters my dreams and rants about politics and people and philosophical issues. Yes, mostly things that start with a “P”. This is why Ren has appearances in so many of my books and now has his very own.

I wrote this book in less than two weeks. I’m not joking. It’s my shortest book, but definitely not tiny by any means at 65K words. It’s just that Ren’s story was easy to write and flowed out of me. And I loved the opportunity to take off the kid gloves and write using a main character that people didn’t have to like. Most don’t promote using an “unlikable” protagonist, but I love to take chances. And I’ve definitely done that with this book. Ren isn’t PC. He’s sexist, anti-patriotic, cruel and often rude to undeserving people. Anyway, I’m grateful for the opportunity to share this much loved and very rude book with you all.

A warning: Because I have so many underage readers, I need to again make the disclaimer that this book is New Adult Urban Fantasy. It has strong language…like Ren really needs to widen his vocabulary.  And also there is some violence and sexual references. You’ve been warned.

Hello Readers,

One year ago today the Lucidites series was published! I can’t believe it has been a year.

I always dreamed of being an author, but I had so many doubts. Sooooo many doubts. So many excuses. Sooooo many. And for years they stopped me. But one day I decided that if I wanted my child to take chances with her life, then I would need to as well. We lead through example.

And so a year ago I didn’t publish just one book, I went ahead and released the entire series. It was a risky move, but we must be bold. Anyway, I couldn’t have asked for better readers or imagined the journey my life as an author would bring me. It’s brought you all into my life and that means more than you will know. I LOVE sharing my books. I love talking about them with you. And I love the opportunity to keep writing, which is what your support does for me. I published three books a year ago, and since then I’ve published another series, The Reverians. And REN: THE MAN BEHIND THE MONSTER will be released tomorrow!

I hope that my books keep getting better and better (as I think they do), but I never want to forget that first book, with the bright blue cover, that made all the other books possible. Today I celebrate becoming an author. Today I celebrate three books that started it all for me. And more than anything I celebrate you all, my readers. Thank you!

Book Trailer For REN: THE MAN BEHIND THE MONSTER

As an author I get one question more than any other: Where do my characters come from? Most of the time I have an answer to this. They are parts of myself. Colleagues. Friends. Bullies. People I’ve observed. But there’s one important character and I have abso-bloody-lootely no idea where he came from.

Ren just appeared on a page one day and started spouting clever and abusive dialogue…and he hasn’t stopped since that first book. He continues to fill my head with his witty remarks. Actually, at times I’ve had to question my own sanity. Is my alter ego a middle-aged snarky Brit? Where did Ren come from? Even his name is uncommon and yet I know that’s his name. I know every detail of this chaps life. He’s left-handed. Anti-military. Hates TV. Is regimented. Despises noise, bright sunlight, and most people. Reads incessantly. Is convinced and can state reasons he’s better than 99.9% 100% of the population. Runs everyday, no matter what. Thinks most people shouldn’t be allowed to breed. Prefers suits.  Knows what most people will say before they do. Is not the kind of man a girl takes home to meet her parents. He doesn’t want to meet anybody’s bloody parents. Mostly, he just wants to do his job and be left alone. That’s Ren Lewis in a nutshell. You may think you’d come to like the guy if you met him, and you might, because he’s strangely likable. Here’s the thing though, Ren probably won’t come to like you, no matter what. He thinks most people are repugnant gits.

So that’s Ren. The guy I was blessed to have ranting in my head continuously. I have no idea where he came from or why his scenes are the easiest for me to write, but I also hope he sticks around.
