Book Review: The Loneliness Solution by Jack Eason

Statistics show that, despite our connected world–and partly because of it–we are lonelier than ever. Social media tricks us into thinking that we are engaged in genuine friendships, except we never quite get beyond that feeling of being outside someone else’s life and looking in every so often at what they choose to show the world. Instead of intimacy we get little more than what amounts to digital small talk. But there is a solution.

With plenty of good humor and practical advice, Jack Eason invites you to discover the benefits of doing life together with other brothers and sisters in Christ. Grounding his message in Scripture, Eason helps you

– learn the obstacles to real community
– reimagine what real friendship looks like
– discover a place of true belonging
– and more

If you’re tired of feeling lonely, this encouraging and community-building book is just what you need.

We didn’t need a quarantine to tell us we’re losing connection with each other. The Loneliness Solution offers solid proof that it is a problem, but there is hope. With great statistics, research, inspiring stories practical principles that include encouragement from the Bible, Jack Eason lays out ways to combat the isolation and find community. There’s also advice on building friendship.

This is so timely, but even without the pandemic, this is needed information and encouragement. You definitely should read.

I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated and all opinions are my own.

Christmas Scavenger Hunt Round-Robin: Restoring Christmas

Merry Christmas! Welcome to the Christmas Round-Robin! At each author’s blog post, you will find a question that can be answered by checking out the free Amazon preview of their book. Provide the answer at this Google Form. Note: You must correctly answer the questions for every author in the round -robin to be considered for the win. At the end of my post is a link to the next blog, who will provide a link to the next blog, etc., to the very end.

I’m excited to share Restoring Christmas with you. This is a stand-alone romance about two grieving hearts and one amazing God. It’s of course so much more.

For one, as I do with all my romances, I use Upstate NY settings. Restoring Christmas takes place in fictional Geneseo Valley, modeled after the college town, Geneseo (Jen-uh-see-oh). It’s where I received my degree, and parts of my college experience made its way into the book.

Restoring Christmas also showcases my Ohio life. I’ve lived in NE Ohio for 16 years, and one of my favorite finds has been Castle Noel in Medina. This gem features Christmas props through the decades from costumes to sets to even Cousin Eddie’s motor home from Christmas Vacation. By the time I finished the hour tour I was already plotting.

By the time I was on the highway, I had the question.

What if a young woman had to return to her hometown to save the holiday-themed family business and she hated the holiday?

I hope you enjoy the preview of Restoring Christmas, where you will meet Holly Christmas. Will Kevin Holt and his students convince her to stay in Geneseo Valley? Read to find out.

Julie’s Review

In this final installment of the Empires of Armageddon, Terry Brennan doesn’t take his foot off the gas as he wraps up the mystery and intrigue from DC to Israel. Although I had to pay extra attention to the characters and what was going on as scenes changed quickly, I was just as engaged with Ottoman Dominion as with the others. What sets this series apart and makes it memorable is the supernatural element. Brennan crafts that component natrually into the intrigue and political suspense.

I also enjoyed the family stakes. Would Mullaney be reunited with his family? What about his father-in-law? Again, all of it is naturally woven into the action.

I do think reading the other books in the series is necessary, and so worth it.

Ottoman Dominion is a satisfying conclusion to a memorable, action-packed series. I definitely recommend.

I received a copy of Ottoman Dominion from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Breaking the Age Barriers by Bonnie Engstrom

Breaking the Age Barriers

By Bonnie Engstrom

I love to write about second chances in love, especially about older people falling in love and overcoming complications and our culture’s politically correct expectations. Heck, old –‘ers’ hearts can do flipflops, too. I refuse to refer to them as elders. Sorry.

Her Secret Santa was especially fun to write because I modeled my favorite character after my granddaughter. It was doubly fun because the idea for the story came from my oldest high school friend, Sandy, who played Mrs. Claus a few years ago.

Sandy is a talented vocalist who sang at our wedding. But mostly she is a fun person who loves a challenge. Comfortable in the limelight, she loves to perform and has even named her little dog Diva. I don’t know if Sandy confides in her vanity mirror like Patti does, but it wouldn’t surprise me if she does. Sandy was the perfect inspiration for this story. Of course the book is dedicated to her.

Here is a teaser from the story.

What did Colin’s kiss, and his comment about brave, mean? . . . Had she done the right thing taking the Mrs. Santa job, or even applying for it? Was she too old to fall in love again? Was Colin?

. . .

Was she ready for love again? Was Colin? She knew so little about him, other than he was a Santa who cuddled children and a grandpa who cared. Surely God had orchestrated their situation. Hadn’t the teen boy who’d collected the application she’d filled out for Mrs. Santa looked at her in a strange way and said, “Good luck”? Silly thought, and she didn’t believe in luck. But she did believe in signs. The Bible had many. Maybe she should get back to reading the Word every morning. That, and to find out more about Colin.

I hope readers enjoy the humor in HER SECRET SANTA and the loving, but sometimes colliding, personalities of Patti and her precocious eleven-year-old granddaughter, Tabitha. They make a unique team of Mrs. Santa and Elf Tabitha who not only fixes Patti’s knitting mistakes but guides her down the path to love. Oops! Is Tabby right? Did Patti kiss the wrong Santa?

Book Review: Discover Your Hidden Self by John Murray

If you ever think negatively about yourself, you are not alone. Many people think far too little of themselves than they should. If you are one of those people, then Discover your Hidden Self was written for you. This book will help build your self-esteem, give you confidence and as one reader said, “it helped rid her of a sense of inferiority.” Your uniqueness, significance and your importance, are all unveiled in here. You will discover just how special you are. If you need a pick up and want your spirit lifted, then this is the book for you.

When I look for a book that will grow my faith, I want a few things: encouraging stories, testimonies, and of course, Biblical wisdom and principles. Discover Your Hidden Self: Opening the Door to Who You Really Are! is everything I look for in a book.

Straight forward and full of inspiring stories, the author applies personal experiences and care to the reader with issues like forgiveness, attitude, and being ordinary. I learned things about people like Winston Churchill and even the author’s wife and her health issues. Through every story that seemed impossible, the author reminds the reader with God, all things are possible. Especially this year, that encouragement is not only helpful, but necessary.

My hope is that readers, no matter how they are feeling, will grab a copy and immediately start reading. You will have no regrets.

I received a copy for review purposes. I was not compensate and all opinions are my own.

FOR FANS OF

Lauren DaigleAdeleChristmas musicChristmas TV specials

REVIEW:

Lauren Daigle’s Christmas Under the Stars special is just that. Special. Starting off with a lively rendition of “Jingle Bells,” Lauren and her band waste no time putting the audience into the Christmas spirit. They continue with favorites like “Away in a Manger,” “The Christmas Song,” and “O Holy Night,” to name a few.

Highlights for me were a different arrangement of “A Little Drummer Boy” and a New Orleans inspired “Rudolph” that reminded me of seeing Harry Connick, Jr. live singing the same song.

Sprinkled throughout the concert are Lauren’s reflections on the season and family traditions. They are short, and I thought mixed perfectly with the music.

The time went fast because the music was so enjoyable. Her voice is amazing, and yet the band and back-up-singers are just as talented and she gives them due credit. If you’re a Lauren Daigle fan, you will love every second. If you enjoy a big band sound, this is right up your alley. Same for New Orleans jazz inspiration. If you want a straight-up Christmas special, this is the one.

The Secret of Willow Inn by Pat Nichols

Pat Nichols

The Secret of Willow Inn character interview

Emily Hayes:

A few days ago, I learned I’m pregnant with twin girls. As an only child I grew up yearning, even begging for a sister, so I’m thrilled my daughters will never long for a sibling. At the same time, I’m worried about the added financial burden two babies will place on my husband. While my job as a reporter for our bi-weekly newspaper brings in a little money, his job is the main source of our income. He manages Hayes General Store. It’s the century-old family business which hasn’t changed much over the years.

Anyway, thirty years ago the shocking murder of the local hero sent my hometown on a downward spiral and placed residents’ futures in jeopardy. Thanks to my parents’ vision to transform Willow Falls into a tourist destination, the dead man’s home is weeks away from opening as The Willow Inn. Mom and Dad are also working to raise money and finish building the only hotel which never opened. To help with the rescue mission, I plan to begin writing a novel about Willow Falls’ past. I believe a story based on our colorful history will attract visitors and put us on the map.

Did I tell you there’s some sort of mystery surrounding the murder? I’m counting on my nose for news to snoop it out—maybe even include it to my novel.

Rachel Streetman:

I can’t count the number of times I stood at my office window thirty-eight floors above downtown Atlanta and imagined performing at the renowned Fox Theater. Fact is, I last performed seven years ago when I played Peggy Sawyer in 42nd Street during my senior year at the University of Georgia. I didn’t abandon my aspiration to pursue an acting career out of fear or due to a sudden change of heart. It was a sense of obligation to my father that compelled me to toss my dream on the trash heap of unrealized childhood fantasies.

You see, my father is a hard-driving, workaholic, widower who envisions his only child following in his footsteps and eventually taking the helm at Streetman Enterprise. Although the prospect of him ever retiring from the business he loves is a long shot at best. A few weeks ago, he promoted me to Executive Vice President of Acquisitions, reporting directly to him. One more link in the invisible shackles that keeps me tied to a job I struggle to endure.

At least when it comes to my personal life, I refuse to let my father interfere. In fact, I have a date with Charlie Bricker. He’s a client’s son who plans to build and manage a vineyard and winery for his dad on a swath of forest outside Willow Falls. I’d never heard of the North Georgia spot until I read a newspaper story about a tragic accident a few miles from the town.

Back to Charlie. Although he’s good looking and charming, I have no idea if we’ll hit it off. If we do, I’ll defy my father and follow my heart.

Sadie Liles:

The entire town is having a hissy fit because I came back. You’d think thirty years behind bars would be punishment enough. Not for killing my stepfather—the man everyone called the town hero because he had money. Or so they thought. Only four people know the truth about that murder, and one of them is dead.

You might be wondering why I returned to the scene of my crime. Fact is, I had no place else to go. I was eighteen when I pulled the trigger, so I spent more than half my life in prison. My mama and grandparents died while I was in prison and I don’t have any brothers or sisters. Thanks to my friend Pepper and her husband, the town’s sheriff, I have a place to stay until I can find a way to make it on my own.

The third book in the Willow Falls series, Starstruck in Willow Falls releases February 2nd. The first two books, The Secret of Willow Inn and The Trouble in Willow Falls released in 2019. The series follows Emily, Rachel, Sadie, and the quirky, opinionated Willow Falls residents as they struggle to triumph over trouble.
