Why Are Members of the Clergy Assumed to be Moral Experts?
At http://www.uncg.edu/~nphuntbu/lecture... (site now discontinued), I found a set of lecture notes entitled "Why religion is irrelevant to ethics". Here is a quotation I particularly liked:
Why are members of the clergy (who presumably are experts in the theology of their particular sect) assumed to be experts in ethics? Why put them on ethics ommissions rather than taxi drivers or

Craig's "Altar Calls"
(This is an old post from my archives, originally written around 2006.)
I was watching the video of Craig's old debate with Henry Morgentaler, and the altar call at the end of his first rebuttal struck me. Craig invited Morgentaler to become a Christian. This isn't the first time he's done this; he did the same thing to Paul Kurtz when they debated.
This led me to ask half-seriously, "What if

A Bayesian Analysis of the Cumulative Effects of Independent Eyewitness Testimony for the Resurrection of Jesus Christ
I just discovered this essay by John DePoe which defends a Bayesian technique to measure the cumulative effect of independent eyewitness testimony for the Resurrection. Check it out:

I think this article could be of interest to anyone interested in Bayesian approaches to evidence for or against God's existence, not just people interested in Christian

Doug Geivett's Turnaround Argument on Evil as a Departure from the Way Things Ought to Be
For those of you who don't know of him, Doug Geivett is a Christian philosopher at Biola University. I had the opportunity to meet him in 1997 at the I.I.-sponsored debate on the existence of God between him and Paul Draper. During that debate, I remember Geivett presenting a "turnaround argument" in response to Draper's evidential argument from evil. In debate jargon, a "turnaround argument" is

Summary of Craig-Cavin Debate on Jesus' Resurrection (1995) (LONG)
SUMMARY OF "JESUS: DEAD OR ALIVE?" DEBATE (1995)
WITH WILLIAM LANE CRAIG AND ROBERT GREG CAVIN
February 1995
University of California at Irvine
This is yet another old debate summary from my archives. I am not sure when I wrote this, but I'm guessing it was sometime between 2001-2003. Because this debate was unlike any other debate on the Resurrection I've heard, this summary is much much
