IN WHICH TUT HAS A BOOK COVER!

Happy Monday!

I'm so excited to share with you guys the beautiful new cover for my middle grade fantasy novel,

TUT: THE STORY OF MY IMMORTAL LIFE (Starscape/Macmillan, September 16, 2014)

I've been waiting ages for this book (seriously, it's been seven years) to get published, and getting a cover for it makes it so much more real. I cannot wait for it to come out!!! There is so much to love about this cover. From the Book of the Dead tucked under the boy king's arm to Horus the cat (who only has one eye) to the Shabtis who guard and protect Tut during his misadventures around Washington, D.C. But I especially love the Starscape logo on the spine and the interior of the book, done up cartouche-style.

What is the book about?
Well, here's the official stuff from the back of the book.

You’d think it would be great being an Egyptian demigod, but if King Tut has to sit through eighth grade one more time, he’ll mummify himself.

Granted the gift of immortality by the gods—or is it a curse?—Tut has been stuck in middle school for ages. Even worse, evil General Horemheb, the man who killed Tut’s father and whom Tut imprisoned in a tomb for three thousand years, is out and after him. The general is in league with the Cult of Set, a bunch of guys who worship one of the scariest gods of the Egyptian pantheon—Set, the god of Chaos.

The General and the Cult of Set have plans for Tut… and if Tut doesn’t find a way to keep out of their clutches, he’ll never make it to the afterworld alive.

Can you pre-order the book?
Of course you can! It's up pretty much everywhere, but here are some of the main buying sites for your convenience in case you do happen to want to pre-order (which, if you do, thank you so much!)

Thank you all for your support and for sharing the incredible world of books, reading, and writing with me!

BOOKS TO LOVE: BROKEN WORLDS by Anitha Robinson

I picked up this book and read it nearly in one sitting which was such a welcome relief to my recent reading history. BROKEN WORLDS has that gripping quality that makes you have to turn the pages. To have to find out what happens next. The story and characters pull you in and don't let you go. And though the book is technically a science fiction story, at its heart, it is a story about abuse recovery. I'd recommend BROKEN WORLDS for those fans who enjoyed the TITHE series by Holly Black or the WICKED LOVELY series by Melissa Marr. Because of the abuse recovery theme, I'd save this one for the 9th grade and up crowd.

BROKEN WORLDS by Anitha Robinson (Cbay Books, June 10, 2014)

About the book:

When a brutal attack leaves her barely conscious, Kalli thinks that the young man carrying her away is an angel sent to ferry her to Heaven. After all of the abuse and months of homelessness, Kalli welcomes the relief that Heaven would bring. Handsome Ellis, though, turns out to be just as mortal as she is. A kind stranger, Ellis saves her life by taking her to a local clinic to be healed. Once better, Kalli finds herself staying with her unusual rescuer while being monitored constantly by his mysterious family. It s not an ideal situation, but it beats the streets. Now that she s safe and warm and appears to have found someone who cares for her, Kalli assumes the worst is behind her. She couldn t be more wrong. Broken Worlds was the very first Young Adult Winner in the Yummy but Brainy Writing Contest presented by CBAY Books.

BOOKS TO LOVE: ICE DOGS BY Terry Lynn Johnson

I'll be the first to admit that this book is totally not the genre I normally read. I'm all about the sci-fi and fantasy, but Terry Lynn Johnson is my online friend, and I could not resist picking this book up the very day it came in the mail!

What did I think?

I adored it! From the fun interaction between the main characters to the struggle for live and death in the harsh winter of Alaska, I couldn't put ICE DOGS down. I was immersed in the world of dog-sledding and I didn't want to leave. Well written, well-edited, and beautifully put together, ICE DOGS is a wonderful, edge-of-your-seat action adventure story perfect for middle grade and young adult audiences, boys and girls alike. Highly recommended!

ICE DOGS by Terry Lynn Johnson (HMH Books for Young Readers, February 4, 2014)

About the book:
Victoria Secord, a 14-year-old Alaskan dogsled racer, loses her way on a routine outing with her dogs. With food gone and temperatures dropping, her survival, and that of her dogs and the mysterious boy she meets in the woods, is entirely up to her.

Author Terry Lynn Johnson is a musher herself and her crackling writing puts readers at the reins as Victoria and Chris experience setbacks, mistakes, and small triumphs in their wilderness adventure.

Mythology Books to Love

If you're crazy about mythology like I am, then I can't recommend enough this amazing series by George O'Conner! I'm thinking you should buy them all right now :)

Not only did I whip through the six currently published books (I think/hope more are coming), but so did my 3rd grader daughter and my 7th grade son. We all agree they're the best!

 ZEUS: KING OF THE GODS

ATHENA: GREY-EYED GODDESS

HERA: THE GODDESS AND HER GLORY

HADES: LORD OF THE DEAD

POSEIDON: EARTH SHAKER

APHRODITE: GODDESS OF LOVE

About THE NAVEL OF THE WORLD:

At the end of summer school, Benjamin was given one task—find his missing brothers. Should be easy right? But Benjamin can't locate a trace of them anywhere. Then he finds a mysterious file written in ancient Lemurian with his name on it, which wouldn't be so weird except the file happens to be several thousand years old. Who would have known about Benjamin that long ago? And then Benjamin and his friends begin to wonder, have they been looking not in the wrong place, but in the wrong time?
