Legislation Criminalizing ‘BDS’ Boycott of Palestinian Occupation Has Implications For Black Protest Movements – Atlanta Black Star

I don’t know enough about the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians to have an informed point of view, so I didn’t want to attempt to comment. My purpose for this post is to provide my point of view for the proposed anti “BDS” boycott legislation.

I am a black woman, desendant of enslaved Africans, born a few months after the enactment of The Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Pub.L. 88–352, 78 Stat. 241, enacted July 2, 1964). I have experience #Discrimination, #RacialProfiling, #Busing, #EducationalTracking, #Racism, etc during my lifetime.

The thought that there are people arguing for current legislation blocking the ability of the “BDS” to advocate for boycotting Isreal for me stinks of Nazi tactis and #WhitePrivilege.

For the white people of Isreal to be attempting to violently suppress and take over lands from the indigenous people of Palestine to me is testimony of their demonstrating similar racist tactics utilized during European colonization of the world the as well as Nazis ethics. Personally, I have always questioned how European countries could mandate the formation of the country, Israel, in the Middle East at all when the countries in the area where not in support. To me it spoke too much of allowing a person’s desendants to claim land that they had never set foot upon from someone who currently lived there. If the European countries were justified with this move then land in the Pacific, the Americas and the Caribbean to name a few places should immediately be turned back over to indigenous populations.

Social Protests -The modern civil rights movement grew out of a long history of social protest. In the South, any protest risked violent retaliation. Even so, between 1900 and 1950, community leaders in many Southern cities protested segregation. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the leading civil rights organization of this era, battled racism by lobbying for federal anti-lynching legislation and challenging segregation laws in court.

The Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement (also known as BDS and the BDS Movement) is a global campaign attempting to increase economic and political pressure on Israel to end what it describes as violations of international law. The BDS campaign calls for “various forms of boycott against Israel until it meets its obligations under international law”.[1] The stated goals of BDS are:[2] the end of Israel’s occupation and settler colonization of Palestinian land and the Golan Heights, full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and acknowledgement of the right of return of Palestinian refugees.

For Sessions, being attorney general is chance to make mark

I refuse to give any credence to this new narrative of Sessions as a maligned employee only wanting to do his job.

Sessions policies and actions since 1981 when he first began to serve as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama reveal him to be of an antiquated and ultra conservative Southern mindset. His current policies contradict available research and seem to be no more than an attempt at the throwback policies that have made the justice system of this country biased. While there is not enough evidence to suggest that Sessions is as bigoted misogynistic and unethical as 45th the fact that he is still trying to keep himself in 45th good graces as well as the fact that he has not come out against any of 45th statements that he would know to be questionable as he is an attorney suggest that his personal ethics are questionable.

North Carolina town ‘forgotten’ as residents, jobs fall away

I have thought long and hard about moving to a rural area after retirement. Being able to live more cheaply is a big consideration but I would still need some type of regular community activities so I don’t stay home too much.
