Gates Takes Out His Knife

... and cuts a major command from the military - part of the Pentagon's goal of reducing its budget by $100 billion over the next five years. Joe Klein is underwhelmed:

The most important thing here is context: the JFCom budget is $240 million in a Pentagon budget of over $700 billion.Gates intends to seek annual Pentagon budget increases of 1% per year;the savings from axing JFCom would be used to help fund the actualcombat services being performed. That's good, but there's a largerquestion...

A Singer In A Drag Queen Band?

Er, it appears she is directing a production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. As one commenter at the theocon First Things notes:

Ahem – "Theater Tech" is the name of the
class. It teaches highschoolers how to create sets, lighting plans,
build props, etc. Her collegue Amy Christenson isn't a "Music" and
Robinson isn't a "Choir" all by himself. The word that follows their
names is most likely the name of the class they teach.

And she's not a singer in a Drag Queen band, she's obviously...

Name That Bar!

Fox News' Mr Gutfeld proposes building a gay bar right next to the Cordoba Initiative complex in downtown Manhattan. Fantastic idea. That's exactly the right response to an expression of religious freedom: the expression of freedom for gay people as well. In fact, it's such a great idea that it could be followed across the country: gay bars right next to churches and mosques that condemn homosexuality. Wait, there's more:

The goal, however, is not simply to open a typical gay bar, but one...

The Desperation Of The Palinites

You can tell how damaging the half-term former governor's encounter with a teacher yesterday was by the ferocity of the reaction. So we get a blog post screaming at the top of Memeorandum:

THAT WAS NO TEACHER

The post is from Gateway pundit, not exactly a blog to rely on for facts. He also gives a little hint of what life would be like in a Palin presidency. A simple sign protesting Oalin's delinquency and incompetence in her months of governing Alaska - "Worst Governor Ever" - is regarded...

Yglesias Award Nominee

"Republicans won't get away with this Cantor-like dodge for long. They will lose, and they should lose, credibility with the public if they can't be far more specific than Mr. Cantor," - Pete Wehner.

The Last Chance For A Stimulus?

Daniel Indiviglio runs through several "significant potential upside[s:]" to extending the Bush tax cuts to the rich for one year:

With little time for Congress to pass more legislation before midterms,it's fairly unlikely that any additional stimulus measure will pass. Then, pretty much everyone expects Republicans to add to their seats inthe House and Senate. Since they're born again deficit hawks,it's not likely that they'll allow more stimulus in 2011. So eventhough extending the tax cuts...

Barracuda, Ctd

A reader writes:

Your reader asked "Where does
this come from? Where does the idea that higher education -- or ANY
education -- equate to left wing liberal elitism?"

Any student between the ages of 14-18 can answer that easily. It comes from high school.

Sarah Palin is the quintessential high school mean girl. She is The Libby writ large. She'll mock and deride anyone who gets satisfaction from intellectual pursuit as a nerd, dweeb, loser, etc due to her own insecurities (though she's in...
