Quotes by Bernardo Guimarães (?)

“Desd'o berço respirando
Os ares da escravidão,
Como semente lançada
Em terra de maldição,
A vida passo chorando
Minha triste condição.
Os meus braços estão presos,
A ninguém posso abraçar,
Nem meus lábios, nem meus olhos
Não podem de amor falar;
Deu-me Deus um coração
Somente para penar.
Ao ar livre das campinas
Seu perfume exala a flor;
Canta a aura em liberdade
Do bosque o alado cantor;
Só para a pobre cativa
Não há canções, nem amor.
Cala-te, pobre cativa;
Teus queixumes crimes são;
E uma afronta esse canto,
Que exprime tua aflição.
A vida não te pertence,
Não é teu teu coração”
