Wicked New Event – Musings of a Perennially Shy P0rn0gr@ph#r
So not only do I (as Molly) have a couple of new appearances scheduled for San Francisco — one this Sunday at Wicked Grounds, “San Francisco’s First and Only Kink Cafe and Boutique,” and one in April at Writers With Drinks, at the Makeout Room — but I have an opportunity, perhaps, to challenge myself out in the world.
Because the truth is that I even though I take enormous pleasure in reading aloud to people who connect with what I try to do, there’s a way that I’m also shy, or perhaps still and always hyper-conscious of the boundaries between fetish and flesh, fantasy and performance. Fascinated, but after almost two decades of Carrie, here I am again, quivering at the gates of the chateau.
So when Cleis Press set up the Wicked Grounds event and when I said, “Oh, tell me about them.” And when Eva, the lovely young woman who has the perhaps not-so-enviable task of shepherding me through this maze, said something offhand like, “oh, you know, a cafe. Tea and coffee. A meeting space, art, with a boutique and a cage”…
…I have to admit I swallowed hard…
And a cage.
This Sunday, March 24, 4 PM. Wicked Grounds, 289 8th Street, South of Market, San Francisco CA 94103

The Legendary SmartGirl Bottom Meets the Great Romantic Heroine
I don’t exactly get who “meets” who in Susie Bright’s title, but wtf, it’s The Legendary Susie Bright, interviewing ME (mostly as Molly Weatherfield) on her blog, in celebration of the recent publication of Carrie’s Story and its sequel Safe Word on Audible.com.
Fun interview. Great questions. Susie was a huge influence during the years when I was figuring out how I might write about my fantasies and also stay true to my intelligence and my politics. And what’s so particularly great, almost twenty years later, is the number of readers who get it, who share the fantasy and the impulse.
Thanks, Susie!
And thanks, readers!

How I Came to write Carrie’s Story: the condensed version
What do you do if you’re a little confused by the turns your erotic fantasy life is taking? This is what I told Wallace Baine, art editor of the Santa Cruz Sentinel yesterday.
I decided to write it all down and see if it came out as evil. It didn’t. It came out as funny. Carrie is ultimately funny, curious and intellectually brave. And that’s really what I wanted to write.
For the longer version, go to http://themusesantacruz.com/2013/02/19/in-the-post-fifty-shades-world-molly-weatherfields-1990s-bdsm-erotic-classic-carries-story-gets-a-new-look/
Or (even better) come and meet me at Capitola Book Cafe tomorrow night, February 21. More details here: http://www.capitolabookcafe.com/event/author-event-molly-weatherfield-carries-story

List-mania
I mentioned that Carrie’s Story just made sheknows.com’s 12-must-read-erotic-novels list, and romance writer told me that actually, my motormouth BDSM heroine is on seven other lists on Goodreads, including (I’m just saying) “Instead of 50 Shades of Gray.” Yes, well, and then there was the Daily Beast list I stumbled on a few months ago called “Sexier than…” well, than you-know-what wildly popular book.
But my favorite list I’ve ever been on was Playboy’s intentionally provocative “25 Sexiest Novels Ever Written.” The original web page is no longer online, but Amazon picked it up, so if you’re interested, there I am (as Molly) as #12, between Vladimir Nabokov (Lolita) and Erica Jong (Fear of Flying).
And here’s what Playboy editor Jim Petersen, who chose the list, told Susie Bright about why he chose Carrie’s Story:
SB: My friend Pam Rosenthal, who wrote Carrie’s Story under the pseudonym of Molly Weatherfield, is thrilled to bits you picked her novel for the list. What made Carrie stand out among so many others of S/M romances that have been published since Story of O?
JP: I once went on a tour of San Francisco with a reporter who wanted my views on strip bars, fern bars, and gay bars.
There was a moment where we watched a string of topless dancers, and one woman came out and grabbed us by the eyeballs. She dominated. I could see “the intelligence behind the entertainment”— and that’s why I responded to Carrie. I loved her attitude, intelligence, eye for detail. She was alive, compared to O— a story that is like watching a suicide.
Thrilled to bits. Yeah, that’s just about right. Jim, I love your attitude, intelligence, and eye for detail as well.
