Photo Friday: Rio Video!
Remember when I went to Rio in January? Our friends at Fashion TV showed me this segment, where I appear talking about a show that was very Hitchcockian. They captured the whole thing really well.
Happy Friday!

Local Girls and Rich Boys by Jenny O'Connell
[image error]
"There are two types of people on the island--those who leave at summer's end... and those who are left behind."How awesome is that tagline? I've been meaning to go to the beach with, well, a book about the beach. And I love the idea of Jenny O'Connell's Local Girls and Rich Boys. Plus, major abs on those covers. It's like a Fitness photo shoot.Want more summer read ideas? This video of Sarah Dessen sharing her favorites is packed with ideas. (Scroll down to the "reviews" section to see the ...

Cover Stories: Illyria by Elizabeth Hand
[image error]
The moment I saw the lovely cover for Elizabeth Hand's Illyria, I knew I had to ask her how it came about. And when I read this review, I knew I had to read it (it's high in the pile!).Meanwhile, here's Elizabeth with the Cover Story:"Put simply, I adore this cover. It may be my favorite, from anything I've ever written. It's very different than the artwork for the original UK edition, which had a very small print run and a lovely, Edward Gorey-esque black-and-white pen-and-ink drawing that s...

Photo Friday
[image error]
(How did I make those awesome ransom-style letters? Find out here.)I'm working on a magazine that had a big photo shoot this week. It was downtown near Wall Street, next to all these towering skyscrapers. It made me remember a part of NYC that I overlook -- the vertical part!I can't show a lot from the shoot, but here are some peeks. We shot on an amazing balcony, and this was the Northern view:

In the lobby, there was a giant chandelier designed by Phillipe Starck. It was impressive.

Cover Stories: Della Says: OMG! by Keris Stainton
[image error]
Keris Stainton's May novel has a cover that is filled with chat! I had to ask her how it came about. "The original title was Della Says: OMG! WTF? I wasn't a fan of this title and, as it turned out, neither were the retailers, so the WTF was dropped. Oddly enough--considering how opinionated I am about other people's covers--I didn't have an idea for mine. It took me such a long time to even realize it would be getting a cover (doh!) and then, once I realized that, I couldn't even begin to pi...

Photo Friday: The Best of Both Worlds
City life is fun--there are always a ton of parties in the summer. Here I am at the opening of the restaurant Covet with my friends Erin (left) and Kristine (right). Ramona Singer from The Real Housewives of NYC was there, but I missed her! Bummer.

Yes, I love the ctity. But for the Fourth of July, some friends rented a farmhouse we'd been to in the summer of 2008, and I fell in love with the country all over again... Not to be all Miley Cyrus, but it does feel like the best of both worlds.On...

Cover Stories: Gimme a Call by Sarah Mlynowski
[image error]
Sarah Mlynowski's Gimme a Call is a magical summer read! When Devi drops her phone in the mail fountain, she fishes it out to discover that it only calls one number: her number. At age 14, three years ago. The back-and-forth between past and present Devi is quick and funny as she tries to figure out if her fate is changeable. Loved this one!And the cover is way cute, so here's Sarah to talk about how it came about:"Have you seen the hardcover of GOOD GIRLS by Laura Ruby? With the cool reappea...
