TIME TO HUNT

I recently finished a MAG-40 class in New Hampshire (http://massadayoobgroup.com).  Riding around, I’ve seen more turkeys in the Granite State than I remember from ever before.  I’m told the deer population is flourishing too. Hunting season will be upon us soon.  This is the time to clean and sight in the guns.  The time to […]

ARMED CITIZEN DEFENSE WITH GUNS: WHAT CDC FOUND OUT

Anti-gunners wail that the Center for Disease Control doesn’t study firearms deaths enough. Thanks to Reason magazine, we discover that the CDC did study armed citizens use of firearms in self-defense…and the results were overwhelmingly positive. So, it was hidden until recently. One wonders who buried that, and why… Read about it here.

THE STUPIDITY OF MAGAZINE CAPACITY LIMITS

I just got home from a month on the road teaching defensive shooting and deadly force decision making.  Half of that was in a “ten round magazine limit state.”  My sidearm du jour was a Beretta 92 Compact customized by Wilson Combat.  This pistol was designed around a thirteen-round magazine, and capable of taking a standard full-size fifteen-round Beretta 92 […]

AN EXCELLENT ANALYSIS OF THE BRUEN DECISION

David Kopel There aren’t many people who understand gun-related legislation and court decisions better than attorney David Kopel.  It’s useful for all of us to read his latest analysis of the Bruen decision, and in my opinion it is imperative for holders of New York carry permits to do so. Find it here.

SELECTING AN ATTORNEY FOR A SELF-DEFENSE CASE

When I see someone wrongly convicted for a genuine self-defense shooting, it’s often because they had a lawyer who simply didn’t know how to handle that type of case.  Over on the Wilson Combat channel at YouTube, I recently addressed how to pick an attorney for that type of case.

BEAT THE HEAT!

This summer has brought a brutal heat wave to most of America, and I’ve found it so at most of the venues where I’ve taught this season.  We’re doing OK because we take suitable precautions.  Let’s share. In June, we had a couple of folks fade on us in mid-90s heat with oppressive humidity in Illinois. No […]

WHAT TO SAY TO THE POLICE AFTER A SELF-DEFENSE INCIDENT

Greg Ellifritz addressing a MAG Deadly Force Instructor Class Let’s say you’ve had to draw your gun or merely reveal it, or perhaps even had to fire it, in a self-defense incident.  Police are coming, ideally called by YOU.  When they get there, questions will be asked.  What do you say?I don’t believe “never talk to the police” is the best answer. Neither does Greg Ellifritz, a […]

IN THE MATTER OF LIMITING CARTRIDGE CAPACITY

I trust you are all familiar with the recent Indiana case where a heroic young armed citizen stopped what would certainly have been a horrendous mass murder when he drew a concealed pistol and shot the gunman dead.  According to reports, it took him ten shots to end the deadly threat. In states with the ten-round […]

THE INVISIBLE ELEPHANTS IN THE (CLASS)ROOM

My wife and I were crossing the Louisiana line into Texas for the NRA Annual Meeting when the radio told us of the situation happening in Uvalde, Texas. I decided then and there I wouldn’t write about it for a month or so, until the facts were in. “Breaking news is broken news.” Look at […]
