trying to change my habits

I am, as the subject line suggests, trying to change some habits. It isn’t going well, of course, but I’m trying.

I started taking a yoga class for newbs, and I’ve Not Wanted to go to every class since then, but I’ve gone and enjoyed all of them and indeed, have left every one going “if I did that 3 or 4 times a week I’d probably feel a lot better,” but I’m trying to change habits in a SUSTAINABLE manner, not “DO ALL THE THINGS / NEVER MIND I’D RATHER DIE”.

I’m trying to spend less time on the c...

Picoreview: Bumblebee

Picoreview: Bumblebee – this is a great Girl And Her Horse movie.

I loved Bumblebee when I first saw it in the theatre, except the night we went, so did about 15 incredibly obnoxious teenagers who obviously didn’t really want to be there and who were unbelievably loud and rude and giggly and stupid through the first half of the film, after which they either left or were kicked out, I can’t remember. So mostly I didn’t hear any of the first half and really liked the second half, and I’ve been mea...

Recent Reads: The Scarlet Revolution, Genevieve Cogman

…but only books one and two, because three isn’t out until next year, :sobs: :)

These are by Invisible Library author Genevieve Cogman, who thought “What if Scarlet Pimpernel, but with vampires?”

What results is a rampage through revolutionary-era France with our lead character, Eleanor, a maid in a vampire’s estate, being swept into the Pimpernel’s cadre due to Reasons, and her gradual emotional and intellectual journey from the unquestioning “of course the world is ordered as it should be” to ...

art vs industry

Elsewhere a friend posted an image of all the upcoming/in development Marvel projects, of which there were…many…like, over 20…and made a comment about whether it was art or industry.

It turned out I had some feelings on that. :)

I think Marvel walks an interesting line between art and industry. A lot of it’s industry, which is fine because it IS an industry. And since I find, IDK, probably 80% of that industry’s product to be entertaining, I’m pretty happy with that. My problems with the industr...

fundraiser for a friend

G’morning, mes amis. I’m in a reasonably good mood this morning, possibly because I slept something like 23 hours out of the 48 hour weekend. And I was going to blog about the weekend, and probably still will, but possibly not until tomorrow because today I’m going to hit you with something I mostly don’t do.

My friend and cover artist Skyla was harrangued by her friends into running a Birthday GoFundMe for what are really basic life necessities, including stuff like a bed to put her mattress on...

my dumb ear

In a blog post of spectacular unimportance, I am so very happy to say that my dumb ear, in which I got a helix piercing on October 19, 2022, has actually healed!

The remainder of this post may involve vague grossness that the delicate among us might not want to read. Not lots of grossness, but a bit. :)

After noticing that it seemed to have (for want of a better phrase) dried up a lot recently, I went in to have it checked yesterday. The nice woman, who I think was an entirely new person from an...

Picoreview: Mrs Harris Goes to Paris

Picoreview: Mrs Harris Goes to Paris – a delight!

I very much wanted to see this in the theatre and for whatever reason failed to, so when I had the TV to myself and discovered it on Netflix a couple nights ago, for once in my life I didn’t spend 45 minutes trying to decide what to watch and finally decide to watch nothing, but just watched it. :)

It really is a delight. Charming, sweet, soft, occasionally heartbreaking, and funny. The lead, Lesley Manville, is one of those actors I feel like I’...

Recent Reads: The Continuing Time, Daniel Keys Moran

Recent Reads: The Continuing Time, by Daniel Keys Moran

Once upon a time a bit of a punk of a young writer informed the world that he had 33 books planned in a time-and-space-spanning saga called The Continuing Time, and the world sat up and took notice.

Life happened, and so far there are only five books in it, but I love every one of them into the depths of my soul, and I will wait patiently for the other 28 until the end of time. (Well, there’s six if you count the collection of short stories...

an epiphany

I had an epiphany recently. Not one that’s likely to lead to a sudden burst of writing because I am So Fucking Far Behind On Everything that the idea of resurrecting a project that has like an absolute total of 10,000 words written on it is just not happening, but.

So I’ve been re-reading the Continuing Time books by Daniel Keys Moran, which are easily some of my favorite books ever. Desert island stuff, that. But I ran out of the ones I had on my ereader so I switched to Kim Stanley Robinson’s ...

the problem is the computer

The problem is the computer. Definitely not me. Definitely the computer, see.

See, like. The other day my FB memories came up with something to the effect of, I’d been drawing, or maybe just looking at some of my older stuff, and I’d thought, “Self, if you spent as much time drawing as you do on Twitter, you’d be a hell of an artist,” and then thought, “Nah, don’t be ridiculous.”

And then I thought, “No, seriously, do you KNOW how much time you spend on Twitter? :/”

But so like, ok, let’s say I ...
