Harry James Denton Returns!
For the past several months, I’ve been very quiet on my blog, mainly because–in addition to teaching full-time and the rest of life–I’ve been working to republish the first three Harry James Denton novels under the Spearhead Press imprint.
I’m thrilled to say that the first three novels, Dead Folks’ Blues, Torch Town Boogie and Way Past Dead are nearly ready to go! The covers have been redesigned by the wonderful BookGraphics.net. Here are the first two:

And the cover for Way Past Dead will be ready in January.
I’d love to hear what you think. Shoot me a line.
Meantime, more to follow!

Joseph Campbell and Donald Trump
I’ve been totally overwhelmed by work and ramping up the new school year at Watkins. I’m teaching my first graduate class and have a whole list of new students, new projects, plus my own work. So things have been busy.
And since I’m way too overbooked and haven’t had time to come up with anything creative and brilliant on my own, I pass along this wonderful piece that speculates on what Joseph Campbell would think about contemporary American politics, especially Donald Trump…
Fascinating. Take a look!

WHY WEALTH INEQUALITY SUCKS Is In Progress!
I’m hard at work on the second of a planned eight broadsides on the main issues facing Americans. The first, Why Politics Sucks, was published on July 4th and went all the way to #14 in its category on Amazon.
I anticipate needing another couple of weeks, perhaps a little longer, to get the next one ready for publication. Meanwhile, the cover has come in and I thought I’d share it with you…

Why Politics Sucks Available for Pre-order
…my first venture into nonfiction in a long time, is up for pre-order with a publication date–appropriately enough–of July 4, 2016.
[image error]Why Politics Sucks: With Just A Few Modest Proposals That Might Make It All Suck A Little Less is the first in a series of eight “broadsides” that will take a good, long, hard look at what’s gone wrong in our society. From Health Care to Wealth Inequality to the role of Religion, the failure of Higher Education, our broken Legal System and out-of-control Corporate Behavior, it seems like every major facet of American society is stumbling, if not downright falling. So over the next few months, we’re going to take each one of these topics and shed a little analysis, make a few “modest proposals” and generally engage in an insightful, thorough, smart-assed rant.
Why Politics Sucks: With Just A Few Modest Proposals That Might Make It All Suck A Little Less will be released in Ebook form only. When all eight broadsides have been published, I’ll compile them into a printed book that will be widely available.
You can find Why Politics Sucks at the following major Ebook distributors:

Steven Womack’s Seven Rules Of Success
1) Be The Luckiest Son Of A Bitch On The Planet!
Nothing—not talent, determination, or effort—trumps luck, and if you’re not lucky, then that’s evidence you’re not worthy of success!
2) Always Be Right!
Winners are always right! Only losers are ever wrong!
3) Never, Ever, Make A Mistake!
If you make mistakes, then you’re a loser. The only thing worse than making a mistake is admitting you made a mistake.
4) Always Have Only The Good Stuff Happen To You!
If nothing bad ever happens to you, then by definition you are a success!
5)Never Fail At Anything!
Losers fail. Winners win. End of story.
6) Make A Ton Of Money!
After all, that’s how we measure it, right?
7) Never, Ever Pay Any Attention To Stupid Lists Of Rules of Success
Figure it out on your own. Everyone’s path is different. When you’re successful, you’ll know it.

Self-Publishing Preview For 2016
I’ve been a little quiet on the blog lately, but mostly because I’ve started a Twitter account and am really devoting time to making my FB page worth reading. I’m constantly finding new industry articles and news that I think you’ll find interesting, so check it all out.
In the meantime, Publishers Weekly has just published a really good article on the indie press publishing prospects for 2016. It remains an exciting new world out there, one with great potential and great challenges.
Well worth reading…

There’s Another Gap In Obamacare, And We Just Fell Through It…
I think the 21st Century has not been kind to Americans. We’ve seen the longest war in American history, what feels like the beginning of the end of the American middle class, politics descend to a mean, more mean-spirited level than we’ve ever seen before, and a health care system that’s become–for many of us–the biggest threat to our economic well-being out there.
So I’ve done what writers do: I’ve started writing about it.
The result–after a year’s worth of study, research, and writing–is the book proposal I just sent my agent: WHY EVERYTHING SUCKS With Just A Few Modest Proposals That Might Make It All Suck A Little Less.
This book is, I hope, a thoughtful and entertaining look at all the things that have gone wrong in modern American life: politics, health care, wealth inequality, and a whole list of other issues that have made made life tougher and more challenging for most of us (and better than ever for a select few).
As the title suggests, though, I offer some solutions that I hope might make it all a little bit better.
The article that I’ve uploaded is loosely adapted from some of that work. I’ve just submitted it to The Huffington Post and am waiting to hear if they’re interested.
In the meantime, I thought I’d upload this to the blog. Just click on the link to pull up the .pdf.
Hope you enjoy!
