The Faeryn

​The Faeryn weren’t always wingless creatures.
There was a time when they resembled fairies so closely, it was hard to tell the two species apart.
The Faeryn and fairies were very competitive with each other and as the years past, the competitions grew more and more ugly.

One day, the fairies stole the Faeryn king’s dagger and fled into the
Downs. The Faeryn gave chase, but before they could get the king’s dagger back, the fairies dropped it down the chimney of a witch’s shack.
The fairies laughed and flew away.

The Faeryn king and several of his guards attempted to retrieve the dagger with magic and without disturbing the witch, but she woke up and assumed the Faeryn were trying to steal from her. One of the king’s guards snatched up the dagger, as the witch placed a curse on them all. Their wings shriveled and fell off. The Faeryn were left flightless.Their hatred for the fairies grew tenfold, but without their wings they would not seek revenge. They moved deeper into the forest and became reclusive.

There was a time when fairies and pixies were friendly and worked together, but that was a long time ago. The fairies looked down upon and took advantage of the pixies due to their small stature and lack of strength. The pixies grew to resent the fairies and perceived them to be uppity know-it-alls. They spent many a day, and some nights, sticking out their tongues and blowing raspberries. It did not have the desired effect and they moved on to create their own community, where they soon became uppity know-it-alls, too.

The Shadowlands

​The Shadowlands is not a place to gather socially.
It’s a place where only the most despicable are sent (and sometimes innocents).
There is no sense of time or direction. All inhabitants are surrounded by a thick, white fog. There is no shelter or food. There is merely existence, until there isn’t.
Eventually, one of three things happen.
He or she escapes, which is impossible. He or she turns into shadowshifters or shifters for short. There a handful who have been smart enough to use the transformation to their advantage. ie: Trinnean and Gerrick Ravensadale.
Many just remain within the confines of the Shadowlands as dark, howling forms within the white mist. Finally, for those that don’t turn into shifters and or escape, the Shadowlands slowly eats away at their existence, until there is nothing left and they simply fade away.

special place

Do you have a magical place you like to visit in person or a special place in a great book?
If I had to choose, it would be Mrs. Pitt’s home or Merrihaven. Both are whimsical, as well as magical.
I think I’d spend most of my time in Esther’s secret spot in the garden. There I could lounge under the weeping
willow, play with the pixies and talk to the flowers. In book 2 of the Max Hamby series, there are many more
places to come, but not all are whimsical or inviting.
