Wednesday Wisdom
Good Morning!
It is Wednesday Wisdom: advice, quotes & sayings for #writers & #readers. Great quotes to keep you (& me) motivated, inspired, #writing & #reading.
Writers
“Any writer worth his salt writes to please himself... It's a self-exploratory operation that is endless. An exorcism of not necessarily his demon, but of his divine discontent.” Harper Lee
Writing a book is a horrible, exhausting struggle, like a long bout with some painful illness. One would never undertake such a thing if one were not driven on by some demon whom one can neither resist nor understand.” George Orwell
“To me, the greatest pleasure of writing is not what it's about, but the inner music that words make.” Truman Capote

Traveling Tuesday
Good Morning!
Time to get creative, people. :) It's Traveling Tuesday. Picture prompts for #writers. Today, we'll also have a picture prompt for all of you wonderful #readers.
Make sure you're firmly planted in your chair, because today we are getting spooky with three of the most haunted places in England. There are many more, but I don't want to creep you out too much. I usually stay away from things that are scary and or creepy, but I thought it might come in handy for those of you than enjoy writing #paranormal, horror and possibly, #scifi.
Borley Rectory, Essex
Borley Rectory was a Victorian mansion in the pretty village of Borley, Essex. It was destroyed by fire in 1939, but gained a reputation as being heavily haunted after a series of locals reported some unexplained paranormal goings-on. In fact, the hauntings at Borley caught the nation’s attention when the story of Borley was covered in the Daily Mirror and by noted paranormal investigator Harry Price. The first indication that there was something paranormal happening at the house were footsteps heard in the dead of the night in the 1860s. The ghost of a nun, two headless horsemen, a phantom carriage, the phantom ringing of the servant’s bells and bottle-throwing are just some of the paranormal incidents reported at Borley.

Ancient Ram Inn, Gloucestershire
The Ancient Ram Inn has often been referred to as the most haunted house in Britain. The house itself is said to have been the location of many sinister happenings, including child sacrifice, suicide, black magic rituals and was also used as a hideout by criminals. The current owner, John Humphries believes that he shares his home with all sorts of spooks – two demons, a witch, orbs and other ghostly presences, and many people who have visited the property have described it as the ‘scariest place’ they’ve ever been to.

Pendle Hill, Lancashire
Pendle Hill is located in an area known as Pendleside. It’s famous for its links to George Fox, which led to the foundation of the Quaker movement. A Bronze Age burial site was also discovered at the foot of the hill and it was also home to the Pendle witches, prompting many people to visit the site in search of ghosts and spirits. Most Haunted visited the site in 2004 for a live episode and the presenter, Yvette Fielding, maintains that that episode was the scariest episode of Most Haunted that they have ever filmed.

#Readers, this one is for you. No, it's not creepy. I don't think anyone could enjoy a good book in a creepy place, do you? This is one of my fave places to drool over when looking at pics online.

Thursday Three
Good Morning!
Another new day to get creative! Let's go, it's Thursday Three. Three writing prompts for #writers.
At a garage sale, your character buys an antique urn which she thinks will look nice decorating her bookcase. But when she gets home, she realizes there are someone's ashes in it....
A man elbows your character in a crowd. After he is gone, she discovers her cell phone is too. She calls her own number, and the man answers. She explains that the cell phone has personal information on it and asks the man to send it back to her. He hangs up. Instead of going to the police, your character decides to take matters into her own hands...
Your character suspects her husband is having an affair and decides to spy on him. What she discovers is not what she was expecting...
Thank you to creative-writing-now.com for the prompts.

Author Interview
My very first interview as an author on this fantastic blog. (the date is April 23rd)
http://www.wisdomona.blogspot.co.uk/
Excerpt:
Be strong, be kind, don't wait.
Be strong when life takes a scary turn.
Just when you feel you can take no more, steel yourself and get back up.
It won't last. You will get through it and come out stronger on the other side.
Be kind because a kind word goes a long way and will always come back to you.
Don't wait because life zips by and is far too short. Live to make your soul happy.
Be you. You're one of a kind, which makes you special...K. Cyr

Wednesday Wisdom
Good Morning, friends!
I hope you're all doing well and feeling fine. It is midweek and you all know what that means.
It's Wednesday Wisdom. Words of wisdom for #writers and #readers.
The first quote is a favorite of mine and you might have seen it on some of my pages. I think it can be applied to just about any career and life in general.
I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope. Which is what I do, and that enables you to laugh at life's realities.
Dr. Seuss
This is another quote that I find interesting and it, too, can be applied to any career or part of one's life.
Until you know that life is interesting - and find it so - you haven't found your soul. ~Geoffrey Fisher
And finally, the one below is very good. All I'm saying is, don't wait. If there is something you're in the middle of, starting, thinking about starting, perhaps a switch or move....whatever it is, do it.
You can come up with a million excuses to hold off, that's easy. But, that is either fear, procrastination or both. Do what makes your soul happy.
While one person hesitates because he feels inferior, the other is busy making mistakes and becoming superior. ~Henry C. Link

Traveling Tuesday
Morning friends.
It's Traveling Tuesday for #writers. Photo #writing prompts.
Today we are off to two interesting places. One is unknown and one is Malmesbury Abbey Gardens, Wiltshire.
If you know where the first photo is and who the photographer might be, let me know in the comments and I'll post a link.
What would your character being doing here? In search of something? Perhaps it's a quest and he or she must enter to gain something?
http://moonchild7186.tumblr.com/post/118667759665
This next photo is Malmesbury Abbey Gardens, Wiltshire.
Is that an entrance? Is your character walking through the garden? Meeting someone or about to go through the door?

Happy writing, my friends and have a great day!

Monday Mentionables
Morning everyone,
I hope your weekend was a good one. It's Monday Mentionables time. Links for #writers & #readers.
I was going over the Writer's Digest site this weekend and found some articles that I think many beginning #writers might find interesting.
First up, we have 4 Approaches for the First Chapter of Your Novel.
I know some days might be harder than others to get going and or you're not sure how to start that first chapter.
http://www.writersdigest.com/online-editor/4-approaches-for-the-first-chapter-of-your-novel
This next article is similar to the first, but it deals with the opening of your story. You have to have a great opening for that first chapter.
http://www.writersdigest.com/online-editor/7-ways-to-create-a-killer-opening-line-for-your-novel
And lastly, the headline of this article made me curious. Why? Because who really wants to destroy their book idea/concept/manuscript, etc.
http://www.writersdigest.com/online-editor/how-to-destroy-your-initial-idea-make-your-story-better
Now, for the #readers.
I found a page listing 101 Blogs You Need To Read. I think you'll find it interesting.
