Alice White stars as Polly, who is neither a widow, nor from Chicago, but wants the New York hoods who killed her policeman brother to think she's both. Polly’s brother Jimm...

Alice White, 1930 Old Gold Advertisement

Written by Cliff Aliperti and originally published on Immortal Ephemera

Alice White in The Girl from WoolworthsMy review of The Widow from Chicago is still coming, I promise. I was doing some background research on the movie yesterday and came across a couple of Alice White clippings in the old Brooklyn Daily Eagle that won't really fit that post, so here they are.

Helen Twelvetrees Pathe promotional portrait, 1931. From the press tag affixed on reverse:

An exquisite new camera study of Helen Twelvetrees, Pathe's dramatic young ingenue. Following "Swing High," the fair Helen was featured in "Her Man," under the direction of Tay Garnett. She also portrays the leading feminine role opposite Bill Boyd in "The Painted Desert."

"Widows made while you wait ..."

The Widow from Chicago newspaper ad
