Twin I Beam, Cascade Mountain, and Good Humo(u)r

from Alex Emond in the Canadian Rockies. Or, as they are known up there, the Rockies. "Here's a nicely refurbished Ford, just a block away in Banff ."This expensive Ice Cream Truck is quite awesome, even if you guys can't spell humour . Maybe that's why we keep having to send you comedians . Comedians - Canadians ... it's practically the same word."-AE

1949 Ford F-2, tuned-up

This truck was queen of the 4th of July Parade in Brooklin, Maine, Boatbuilding Capitol of the World, if not the Universe. We know other F2's in Marfa, Texas and Colorado Springs. Something about the shape of these trucks is very satisfying, although they are not as sleek as Advanced Designs Chevys of the same era. This one has upgraded wheels and brakes but otherwise seems straight outta Dearborn--or one of the fifteen other Ford plants that rolled them out.

1961 Pontiac Safari 389

I like station wagons. Wish I'd never sold the Brookwood. And early Sixties seems the best era for sleek US car design, especially wagons. I like this bomb. For sale in Georgia. Needs some cosmetics but runs a 389 and 4-speed with a recent rebuild and quite a few upgrades listed such as a GTO cam and Holley four barrel carb. Additionally, rear air shocks and front discs have been added with fresh brake parts all around and the seller says the car is very reliable, having driven it on a few long trips. Despite the mechanical work done, the car requires some cosmetic attention inside as well as a bit of body and paint work. Find out more on B-A-T.

Schooner on Eggemoggin Reach

I know--it's an old truck blog. But every now and then I get out sailing for a few hours and, this being the east side of Penobscot Bay, there is usually a schooner honking up the Reach, and I dig my phone camera out of my sailing bag, hold the tiller with my knees, and try to grab a shot.

1931 Buick, Half Moon Bay, and Duarte's.

from Colin Washburn: "Back street in Half Moon Bay .... A "stock-rod". I could see a hot-rod valve cover through the engine compartment louvres. Never seen an orange on black Cali plate before. I think he painted it himself. This rig was cleeeeen !!"--CRW More about the car here, and about the hood ornament. The current owner and restorer discovered the car asleep behind Duarte's, just down the coast in Pescadero.

Heavy Chevy (1941 Chevrolet Special Deluxe)

For a lot of car guys Chevrolet doesn't really exist until the tri-5's. Until then it was Ford, Ford, Ford. But wow this was a heckuva Chevy bomb in '41. Not a hot rodder's car, though. Almost a limo-Chev, though not quite a '42 Cadillac. All decked out for the 4th of July in Brooklin, Maine.

Beaver in Utero: Canadian roadsigns

"Let us pause to ponder the poetic inscrutability of Canadian highway signs...
Great piece on the weirdness of Canada's road signs, from the Boston Globe. Thanks to Aidan O'Neill for the heads-up:
"I’ve just returned from a week of car camping up the coast of New Brunswick, a long and leisurely drive along the edge of the Bay of Fundy. Gorgeous country, and I suggest you check it out if you haven’t already. But what began as a minor puzzlement for my wife and me bloomed over the course of a few days into a full-on obsession: What in the name of Rob Ford were the road signs trying to tell us?.."
