AF/VK and the Wide-Track Pontiacs

1959 Catalina Times Square
The series of advertising illustrations Art Fitzpatrick and Van Kaufman did for Pontiac started in 1959, when they took the Wide-Track of that year and made it a heckuva lot wider.
1959 Catalina Beverly Hills Hilton
1959 Bonneville Diplomats
1959 Bonneville Horsepower
1959 Bonneville Ritz Madrid

1964 Plymouth Belvedere wagon.

from Michael Moore: "The ’64 Belvedere I pulled out of the woods at Libre and fitted with a four speed and 440…never ran quite right, though."
See more of the Plymouth in an earlier AL post; also in Michael Moore's auto-bigraphy. And a Belvedere Sleeper we saw a while back at Motorland. The '59 Plymouth Belvedere was over several tops. The 1960 as well. And Ernst Haas' photograph of a hipster Belvedere in NYC.

1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1

From Michael Moore, in the East Bay: "I’m back to tentatively walking one of the dogs in the morning, still sore but sightings such as this Mach l are uplifting…to say the paint was flawless does it a disservice…same for the leather interior."

Lobster trucks at Naskeag Point

The trucks and skiff trailers are mostly a device, a lens, or an organizing principle, for seeing the raw beauty of the Point. We are drawn out to Naskeag in all sorts of weather. I'm calling these lobster trucks, but most people are going for scallops this time of year. Dragging or diving. Price last year was $16/lb. off the boat; not sure about this season. You can order scallops from David Tarr (207) 359 6538.

Fiat 500 & Fiat Panda

From Don Culbertson, en France. "The classic Fiat 500....that’s the red one. My own favorite in the Fiat line, the Fiat PANDA! (below) This early-90s vintage is both intriguing and pitiful. The Panda comes in gas and diesel, 2 and 4WD and with its whopping 1000cc power train, the Panda line is the classic Italian farm truck. The Panda is to rural Italy what the PT Cruiser is to West Virginia... "

Don has a thang for Pandas.

AL drove a Fiat 500 across Colorado a while back. Then there is this century-old Fiat S76 firing up. And a Fiat 600 & Fiat 500 caught in Amsterdam.

1973 MGB

Eva H.D. caught the B in Brooklyn. Utah plates...that would have been a strenuous drive. Monstrous black rubber bumpers took over the B in 1974.
