She had no idea how much her life was about to change…
Recruited by NASA to be part of a special team tasked with finding a new world in space, Doctor Samantha Kennedy reluctantly embarks on a six-year voyage. But when a meteor shower forces the crew to take shelter, something goes horribly wrong. Thrown through time and space, she wakes up surrounded by chaos. Her spacecraft is destroyed. Everything she loves is gone. A tall, alien stranger is her only comfort in this bizarre new world.
Fleet Admiral Petr van Jahnsen has seen many things in his career. The strange spacecraft was new even for him, though. But it’s the woman inside that truly fascinates him. pageBreak2Petrs-Mate-evernightpublishing-JayAheer2016-large-authorbannerExcerptThe clearing of a throat pulled Petr’s attention away from the reply he was working on in return for the latest vid his sister, Adira, had sent. Ensuring his personal data pad was locked, Petr lifted his chin to pin a look on the young officer hovering at the end of the table. He had figured the dining hall at that hour in the midst of a shift was the best place for privacy. It had worked until now. The young sub-lieutenant looked nervous. “Lieutenant?”
“Apologies, Fleet Admiral van Jahnsen,” he said. A tremor ran through him even though he snapped a salute.
“On board a cruiser or in informal settings it is Admiral, Lieutenant.”
“Of course, sir. Apologies, sir.” The young man was getting more nervous by the minute.
Petr did not like the effect his rank had on the young, impressionable officers. Petr wasn’t one to use his position often, only when someone overstepped the boundaries of their society in ways that truly pissed him off.
To that end, he waited patiently while the young man gathered up his courage. “First Admiral Chevon requests your presence on the bridge, sir. We received a transmission of unknown origin. It was weak and distorted. Moments later an unidentified craft crossed our outer border.”
Frowning at that, Petr pushed to his feet. He waved the young lieutenant out ahead of him, tucking his data pad carefully away in a pocket. “Do we have any other information on the craft or potential occupants?”
“Not at this time, sir. The admiral has ordered us to investigate but we are not yet in range for a full scan of the craft. It passed the sensors lining the border, which gave us what little we now have.”
He rode the lift with the young man, his mind spinning in concern and curiosity. Striding onto the command deck of the cruiser, he nodded to the commanding officer. “Time to intercept?” he asked.
Chevon, apparently having instructed the lieutenant to pass along all pertinent details, didn’t appear surprised by Petr’s pointed question. “Within the hour, sir. We should have it on radar shortly prior. From what we could discern from the data coming in from the sensors on the border it has a small radar profile. Likely why it slipped through.”
The man moved to a console and nodded to the woman working at it. “Bring it up.”
The screen above her head, eye level for Petr, lit up with data and some grainy images. Chevon put a finger to the small object tumbling lazily through space. “The sensors read it as debris. There was a blip of something that potentially could be a life sign, but it was too quick and faint for the sensors to accurately interpret, would be my guess. Per standard protocol, a notification was sent to the closest available vessel, us.”
Petr nodded slowly, narrowing his eyes on the images. “Play it again,” he requested absently. The images were reset, and he again watched the little oddly shaped item tumble on a wobbly axis while it passed through the sensor ring. Twice more he asked it to be replayed before having the crew member send it to his work data pad.
He wanted to see if he could clean up the images a little more. He could have asked the crew to do so, but he had the time. Beyond that, Chevon had many crew members on board who were fresh out of officers’ school. This flight was a training mission of sorts. “Alert me when we are within radar range. I will be in my quarters.”
“As you wish, Admiral.” Chevon saluted briskly before moving on to pass instructions to the crew.
Pausing briefly to watch the interaction, he felt a hint of a smile tug at his lips. Chevon might be gruff, but he was an exceptional and patient instructor. One of the best still on active duty. It was why so many that came through officers’ school fought to gain a position on his cruiser for the mandatory two years of in-field training. Those that came from Chevon’s cruiser were better officers for it. The man put his crew through every conceivable scenario. And Chevon had many experiences with which to draw from to make sure they were ready for whatever their next posting might be.
The crew listened when Chevon spoke, not merely out of respect for his rank but also for the knowledge they knew he had to share with them. Petr stood for another moment, watching the interaction between the crew and their leader since it was part of the reason he was onboard the cruiser. He was there to evaluate how the new officers were integrating into their roles before he’d return to his own vessel, which he’d left in the skillful hands of his second.
Satisfied that everything was well in hand, Petr left Chevon to the situation that presented itself, and what he could teach his young crew. His mind turned instantly to the sensor video once he cleared the bridge.
In his quarters, Petr settled in at the workstation and slotted the data pad into the port of the station. Once it queued up, he pulled the file off and got to work on getting some clarity. He could have waited for them to arrive, and intercept, but Petr was not feeling all that patient.
Odd for him. He had patience out every orifice even on the worst days. Unless it involved his sister or something that piqued his interest. Like this mysterious and unusual craft. While the programs began their work to remove some of the noise of space that often distorted the sensor feeds, Petr collected a snack and beverage. His original plan was to go to the dining hall and eat there, but he’d been drawn into the video his sister had compiled and lost himself in it. Seeing his niece and nephew, who had grown so much since his last visit, was well worth skipping a meal.
He could not believe how big they both were getting. Once he returned to his own vessel, he would have to see about arranging another trip to visit with them all. Even that rogue Fintan, who had actually dared to entice Adira into falling in love with him. While it was now mostly the principle of being the older brother that kept him harassing the other man, Petr did actually respect him. And Fintan treated Adira like the jewel she was. Good thing, too, or Petr would have personally shoved him out an airlock when they had first met in person.
Easing back into the chair before the workstation, Petr watched the program work at scrubbing out all the unnecessary background noise that translated into white spots or garbage on an image. He set it to working on the one image where the craft was at the closest point to the camera sensor array. It was still quite small, but if he could get rid of the excess items clogging up the picture he could blow it up more. Of course, it was all only a theory. He didn’t know if it would work.
He stared at the monitor while eating his snack. The soft beep from the workstation pulled him out of the trance-like state he had fallen into. Shaking his head, Petr set aside his cup. The program was now analyzing the image, filling in what it could, and slowly it was clearing up. The final image was crisp in comparison to where it had been.
Petr clicked on it to enlarge it. What he found had confusion sliding through him. A few more clicks, and he got it as large as it would go while remaining clear enough to see it. The writing on the outside hull was unusual. There was also an image in primary colors marking the exterior. Neither were familiar to him, nor was the shape of the craft. And it was definitely a spacecraft of some nature. Approximately twice as large as one of the Imarian crawlers, it had a unusual shape to it. Narrowing his eyes, he leaned in, knowing it wouldn’t help him to see it more clearly and yet unable to stop himself.
His communication device chimed softly. Leaning back in his chair, he pressed the side to activate it with his touch. “Yes?”
“Admiral, the craft is now in radar range,” Chevon told him.
“On my way.” After locking down the workstation, Petr quickly returned to the bridge. Stepping onto it, he nodded to the officers who saluted, making his way to Chevon’s side. “What do we know?”
“Not much more than we did, sir. We will be in range soon to bring it on board. Now that we have a bearing, we’ve increased our speed slightly to scoop it up.”
“I’m reading two life signs, sir.”
Petr turned his attention to the young female officer. “Anything more?”
“Their life-support system appears to be failing. Based on the computer models, they have perhaps a day’s worth available. The last hours would be thin, though.”
“That makes boarding easier,” Chevon muttered. “I’ll have the boarding party readied. Once it’s in the cargo hold, they can sweep through.”
Petr made the decision immediately. “I will go with them.” Chevon’s sharp look said he wanted to argue but was hesitating. “I’ll remain behind the first men in, but I’m intrigued by this craft.” He was also highly trained in close-quarters combat, more so than even the highest ranking of the security personnel that Chevon would be sending in. Petr knew what it was like to have to fight for his life every moment of every day.
The commanding officer gave a slow nod. “As you wish, sir.”
One of the other officers called out the time to intercept. Giving Chevon a nod, Petr headed through the cruiser for the large cargo hold that would be the unusual craft’s home for the time being.
It seemed to take much too long for them to pull the ship into the hold. The first four from security began their sweep. From his vantage point at the area they had managed to open on the craft, Petr watched the men pause to look around now and again before moving on.
The interior of the ship was oddly cluttered. Very inefficient, to his thinking. The stench of death permeated the air. Never a good sign. Two more from security went in to do the follow-up sweep behind the other team, which is when Petr stepped into the craft. He had to keep his head bent slightly while moving. At the joints between sections, he practically had to fold himself in half to get through.
A very inefficient design, indeed. Shaking his head, he froze at the sound of blaster fire. What shook him to his core was the feminine scream. It cut straight to the protective core of his being and had him racing through the craft in the direction it continued to come from.
Two of the first security team were down, dead. One of the ones Petr had followed in was holding a blaster pointed at the head of a hysterical female. Pushing the weapon down, Petr ordered him to move into a position to watch the one direction and had the other man look at the direction they had come from.
He then crouched down before the woman. She still cried, the tears pouring freely over her cheeks, but her screams had calmed to whimpers of an emotional agony that had her arms locked around her chest while she rocked back and forth. “We are not here to harm you,” he said in his most gentle voice.
She flinched, and the whimpering grew louder. The rocking movement had ceased, but now she shivered as if freezing.
Going with instinct, Petr undid his uniform jacket and shrugged it off. In slow, smooth movements he wrapped it around her shoulders, keeping a watchful eye on her should she feel the need to strike out at the unknown. Then he held out a hand to her, palm up, and waited.pageBreak2This is book 4 of my Space Wars Series.Petrs-Mate-evernightpublishing-JayAheer2016-evernight-seriesbanner

When she is your other, better half, you need to be close to her in the hope that some of that goodness will rub off on you and help to lighten the load we all carry.” “And you’ve found her?” Damn him for making me ask. She leaned into his touch, all but purring when he stroked his finger down her cheek again. She was as close to him as she could possibly get, her hand resting lightly on his chest as she looked up at him. “Tell me,” she whispered. She had to know that she wasn’t alone in this feeling, that he was as attracted to her as she was to him. “I did,” he answered. “She is an amazing beauty, a pure and kind soul, elegant, poised, and much too good for a warrior like me. She could have any man falling at her feet, yet she seems to have taken an interest in only one. For which I am grateful.” “I have a feeling that she would move heaven and earth for you,” Riley admitted quietly, her face turned up to him as she spoke. Licking her lips, she all but shivered at the need that was in his eyes. “I really think you should kiss me again.” “I think you may be right.” His arms came around her, pulling her up close to his chest, and his head lowered. But he didn’t kiss her immediately. Instead he brushed his nose over hers, then over her cheek. As the anticipation began to build to a nearly explosive point, he finally pressed his lips to hers in a hard, demanding kiss. Riley gave in completely to his passion. She wrapped her arms around his neck. Her hands fisted into his hair. She shuddered and opened to him, his tongue brushing over hers before he took full control. He was dominating her in that moment, and she was fully willing to allow it to happen. Hector’s arms tightened around her as he bent her back over an arm. One hand was soon up in her hair, holding it tight. His mouth devoured hers, and he let out a low growl that shot through her entire body. Then his lips were gone, but his heavy and hard breathing was still a hot brush over her skin. “We should talk first,” he said, his voice not entirely steady. Riley nodded and moved so that she could hug him. Her feet were off the ground, and he was keeping her up, but she was fine with that. She pulled back and smiled teasingly. “You running from this?” He huffed out a breath. “It’s called a strategic retreat, for your information. It’s either that or I have you naked, on the table, with my cock buried inside of you, without a care for the fact that there’s someone else in the house with us. We need to talk before we do anything like that. You need to know what’s going on, and I made you a promise.” Stepping back, he grabbed one of her hands and tugged her up the stairs and down the hall to the room they would be sharing. divider5

Product DescriptionWarriors of Light, 1In the war between good and evil, a new breed of warrior has emerged. Strong and proud, they will band together to challenge an evil incarnate that threatens to tip the balance between the dark and the light.

Gaius Julius Alexander has learned a number of things over his many years. The bad guys are extremely impolite and their timing sucks. And the best laid plans will always go sideways at the least opportune time. For centuries he’s protected the innocent and fought for what’s right. Solid. Solitary. Dominant—and secretly afraid of turning into the monsters that he hunts. Until a routine assignment changed the game and gave him something worth living for.

Emily Duncan has spent her life trying to do the right thing. Between running her own shop and using her psychic ability to help the police track down cold-blooded killers, she didn’t think her life could get much crazier. Until a tall, dark stranger showed up and claimed that her life was in danger and insisted she go with him if she wanted to stay alive.

Excerpt:Shaking off the last vestiges of the dream that held him in its grasp, Gaius Alexander rubbed his hands to his face. He sat on the side of the bed, then ran his fingers through his short, ink-black hair and stood. Padding on silent feet to the large French doors, he tossed them open and walked naked onto the marble balcony that faced the rear of his property. Hands braced on the balustrade, he surveyed the land that he owned, the small piece of paradise that he had earned through sweat, hard work, and blood.
Even with all that he had endured and survived, the nightmares still wouldn’t leave him alone and plagued him night after night. Lifting his face to the moon, he looked over the perfectly manicured grounds with the pristine white marble busts of the original vestal virgins. All were women who were far more than what they seemed on the surface. Goddesses, as his people had seen them, one and all. He smirked, wondering just what history would think if he told them the truth of matters.
Before he blew his cover, or at least the cover that he was sane, and called up the History Channel to offer an in-depth interview with none other than Caligula, he was saved by the ringing of his phone.
“What.” It wasn’t a question, and it wasn’t a statement. It was more of a snarled command. The demand of a man that had led others in battle and come out the victor. It was the voice of a man that dared any to screw him around.
“Where?” he asked. When he was told, he growled, “I got it.” His words were low and almost menacing as he shut down the call.
Walking to his closet, Gaius pulled out his clothing. Specially treated leathers went on first. He shrugged into a silk shirt, tucked it in, then opened the second closet door. Looking over the cache of weapons, he chose ones that would fit inside of the particularly made holders on his pants, ones that no one would be the wiser of unless they were running their hands over him very intimately. Which, since he was not in the mood for play, wasn’t happening. After he strapped the weapons onto his body, he pulled out his cell phone and scanned the full workup that Helen and Mercury had created for the woman.
Then Gaius stepped into his shit-kicker boots, complete with steel toes and switchblades that he could trigger with a simple movement. Grabbing his long sword, he put it into the holder on the back of his leather jacket and was off, long strides taking him through his darkened home. A click of a remote had his weapons closet closing and locking with ease.
In the garage, he looked at the available vehicles and decided to go for speed and protection. As much as he would love to take his bike, he knew that, in this instance, an actual car would be necessary. He had been riding a horse since the day he had been born, but Gaius found that he definitely enjoyed vehicles. The European ones were his favorite for speed, but this had to be more than that. He climbed into the heavily armored SUV and started toward the destination—the shop of the little human who seemed to be on the radar of far too many people.
Once he got started on the road, Gaius began to think about the woman he was going to retrieve. There was something about her that called to him. Even now, he found himself pulling out his iPhone and staring at an image of the beauty. There was something ethereal about her.
His thumb stroked over her ebony locks, and he found himself wanting to lose himself in her expressive, brown eyes.
He stopped the SUV. He looked at her again and let out a breath. If he didn’t know better, he would swear that she was his. He had seen it happen before. Had seen some of his brethren falling to the charms of their vestal virgins, and now he worried that would be him. Gaius enjoyed being single. He enjoyed being able to sleep with who he wanted, when he wanted.
Gaius began to think of the other warriors that he had known who had found their other halves, their mates. He groaned. Son of a bitch, I’m mooning over a woman I’ve never met.
He felt his cock harden at just the thought of sliding into her silken pussy. There was no way she was his. He knew he would never be so blessed by the fates and that no woman would ever be so cursed.

Excerpt:
Throwing the wrench down onto the tool pad, Jagger scrubbed a hand down his face. There were days he loved being a mechanic. Then there were days like today where he knew he should have listened to his mother and gotten into something else. Not that he’d ever tell the woman, even if he was still speaking to her. She already thought too highly of her own opinions. Gods only knew where the woman was today, at least she wasn’t in Shifter Falls giving him even more trouble so that was good.
He grabbed the bottle of water he’d been working on and took a long haul while staring at the engine in question. He was missing something, and it was really starting to piss him off that he couldn’t figure it out.
For the last ten years, he’d been head mechanic at the only automotive shop in Shifter Falls. They were the only one there because they only hired the best and did the best work. Competitors didn’t stand a hope in hell. There had been a few other places that had tried to start up in the Falls. But they’d all shut down within a year because they hadn’t had what it took to work in such a closely knit town. That and they’d been outsiders, something that didn’t go over well with the very private residents who ran the town.
Founded by a shifter pack more than two hundred years prior, the town was home to six different types of shifters. Only through harsh laws and firm hands at the helm of each pack did it work. Especially considering the mix the Falls had running around.
There were plenty of humans living and working there, too, but the majority of the population was other. Sometimes there were problems. Sometimes there were all-out fights, but in the end they all knew they had to live together so things had better damn well work out. Which they usually did, eventually.
Moving to the open door of the bay he was working in, he stared out at the falling snow. The weatherman had predicted another couple of inches throughout the day, and more overnight. Great for all the tourists currently running around Shifter Falls in search of as many wintertime activities as they could find. It also had its perks for the business. It was amazing how many out-of-state tourists had no idea how to handle driving in snow.
He spotted a friend and lifted a hand in greeting. Conroy Hayden was the owner of On The Plate, one of four restaurants in Shifter Falls. The guy was a damn connoisseur when it came to flavors. Likely why his restaurant had managed to get rave reviews in several travel and food magazines. Since then people had come to Shifter Falls not only for the events held but in the hopes to get a table in his restaurant.
“Con, good to see you. I have to admit I didn’t think you’d actually get out during the lunch rush.”
The large redhead shrugged and shot him a smirk. “Figured I should bring you something to eat or you’d forget. Again.”
Jagger spotted the bag then and felt his belly rumble. He’d only had a piece of toast and several cups of coffee for breakfast that morning. It was already one in the afternoon and he wasn’t exactly a small guy. Waving Conroy into the bay, he followed behind the man, shooting the troublesome engine a glare. He cleared off a spot on his work table before grabbing a couple stools to set in front. He took one while Conroy unloaded the bag, hitting Jagger with the scent of cooked meat and spices. His stomach let out a hungry snarl that earned him a knowing look from his friend. Jagger held his tongue, knowing anything he said would only provide Con with more ammo to use against him at a later date.
He accepted the plate from his friend and unwrapped it. A huge pile of roast beef he knew was slow cooked, mashed potatoes, and seasonal greens from the greenhouse at the end of town. Con handed him a little container which held gravy, utensils, and a napkin.
“Thanks,” he said. Cutting off a piece of the beef, Jagger slowly chewed the perfectly cooked meat. It practically melted on his tongue. “Damn this is good,” he practically moaned. Another bite he chewed slowly. He knew better than to shove Con’s food down his throat as fast as possible. The man would beat him silly. And Con was nearly as large as Jagger. They’d both taken boxing as kids, but Jagger had plain meanness on his side. Con was a good soul who wanted to help others, which was why he’d gotten into feeding folks. He said the food was good for the soul and part of why On The Plate did the soup kitchen for those who needed a helping hand.
After finishing the meal, Jagger wiped his mouth while Con packed up the dishes. The secondary dish caught his attention. “What’s that?”
“Dessert,” Con told him.
Accepting the dish, he pulled the top off and inhaled the scent from the hot dessert. It was a crumble of some sort. Rhubarb, for sure, definitely strawberries, but there was something else. He took a bite and let out a moan of pleasure.
“I’m going to assume you like it.”
“Dude, this is spectacular. What all’s in here?”
“The usual, but I threw in some cranberries this time for a more seasonal flavor. Gives it a different taste.”
He nodded, it did at that. Scraping out the last, he licked off the spoon under Con’s knowing watch and passed it back. Another wipe with his napkin before he tossed it into the garbage closest and leveled a look at his friend. “I guess this wasn’t just your need to feed me, since you usually dump and run. What’s going on?”
“Don’t know yet but figured I’d give you a heads-up. The sheriff and a couple deputies were in for lunch today and we got to talking. Apparently there are rumblings from the city council about another pack wanting to set up shop here. They’re calling an emergency meeting tomorrow night to discuss it with the alphas and their seconds. You’ll be getting the call soon, but I wanted to let you know before you got it. I know how much you hate surprises.”
That was an understatement. The last surprise Jagger had gotten was his parents divorcing, his father leaving the Falls, and his mother hooking up with the first of many younger males to keep her bed warm. Since then he’d managed to avoid being surprised with the help of those he called and considered to be true friends, like Conroy. Without them, he’d have been caught with his pants down more than once. But they looked out for him, and he helped look out for them in turn. They were more his family than his parents ever had been.
“I’ll be ready, thanks.” Standing, he gave his friend the quintessential man hug and walked him out of the bay. He stayed there a moment longer to watch the comings and goings of the locals and tourists before turning to face his current nemesis. One way or another he was damn well going to get this thing running. Then he could take it over to the hotel and return it to the tourist to which it belonged.
“All right, you giant hunk of metal, let’s get down to business.”

Happy Veteran's Day!

I know that I'm super late to the party but I can't help myself I guess. I work tonight so I slept today all day. Well, I didn't sleep well but I did sleep. My head was hurting so badly that I lived off of Tylenol and Advil in rotating hours. Gah.

So what's new in your lives today? Mine, not a lot of nothing. I'm working the "night job" while it storms and rains outside which leads us back to the headache :)

Other than that, life is grand.

Tuesday and dreaming

Happy Tuesday my darlings! How are you all? I'm good. I've been going practically all day long. It's been a good day however.

I had a great dinner with Ravenna Tate tonight which was wonderful. We ate at a place called Tchopstix. Their food is so good. Yummy.

I was happy to get out and also do a little Christmas shopping, but shh don't tell the family! :)

I also had an idea for the second book in my www.shifters-match.com series. Fun, right? You don't know about this series yet because the first book of the series has just been accepted by Evernight Publishing and is titled "A Christmas Home" and should come out in time for the holidays which makes me so happy! :)

I hope that your Tuesday was as great as mine was!

Toodles darlings, a bit more tomorrow....
