GIRLS! Grab your wiggles and join me in the Scout Hut at VFringe.

Girls, grab your woggle and join me in the Scout Hut at Ventnor Fringe Saturday 15 August 7.30pm when me and my pratfalls will be strutting our funky stuff.

A WOMAN’S WIT, WISDOM AND PRATFALLS

Join ‘funny, fascinating’ local author, Joan Ellis as she introduces the flip, flawed women in her acclaimed books, tells celebrity tales and shares her banana-skin moments.

Meet 80s Ella, a girl in a man’s world in I AM ELLA.BUY ME, vulnerable Sandra, from the ‘terrifying’ Isle of Wight-based chiller, THE KILLING OF MUMMY’S BOY and Susan in her quest for the truth, in the ‘excellently written’ psychological thriller, GUILT.

Finally, get to know hapless single Mum, Joan herself, in her ‘funny, poignant’ memoir, THE THINGS YOU MISSED WHILE YOU WERE AWAY.

Beating The Drum for Adland authors

Forgive me for blowing my own trumpet but I am thrilled to be in The Drum, the UK’s most visited marketing news website.

I was interviewed for a piece on advertising writers turned authors. Having worked in the same ad agency as Salman Rushdie, I am in excellent company!

GUILT ‘Unconventional and brilliantly written’

‘Joan Ellis has a mind that knows how the human brain ticks. She knows its every fault, it’s every trick. She understands how to turn the muck of a not-quite-ordinary life into something like a heroic high-wire act, and for that, this reader has only admiration.’

‘Funny, yet poignant’ this book is for anyone who has been a child

For anyone who has been a child, THE THINGS YOU MISSED WHILE YOU WERE AWAY is a ‘funny, yet poignant’ memoir tracing my childhood and my daughter’s.

SOPHIE COVER Sophie gets the icing on the cake

My Mum ,brought me up alone in the 60s. By the 90s, when I found myself a single parent to Sophie, the world was a very different place. But some things never change. Unless they are nappies. In which case, stand well clear! Thankfully, Sophie was keen to move on – ripping off the offending article, racing past the potty and flinging herself onto the loo, flushed with success.

Based on a column I wrote about Sophie, this book shows all is not lost even when we lose someone special because there is no limit on love.

‘Hilarious. Funny, yet poignant.’ Trish Jackson, author
