GRL & Blog Tour: Shadows Fall by JK Hogan

Starting from June 1, 2015, I will daily feature authors attending the three conventions I will join, Euro Pride in Munich (July), UK Meet in Bristol (September) and GRL in San Diego (October).

For the GRL in San Diego, October 15-18, 2015, today author is JK Hogan. Moreover I'm also hosting the Blog Tour for Shadows Fall: Tell us a little about yourself, your background, and your current book.

Hey, there! IRL I’m a pretty normal gal, wife and mother and fur-mommy. I stay at home with my son and alternate between writing and graphic design.
I started out writing m/f paranormal romance—I have a series of three books if anyone is so inclined—but I started writing exclusively m/m in the last couple of years. I just have more fun doing it.
My new release, Shadows Fall, is one I’m super excited about. It’s my first true thriller and I’m in love with the subgenre. This book has so many different elements, it was almost impossible to categorize—crime drama, police procedural, a paranormal element, a tiny bit of sci-fi, and of course, romance. I’m always my biggest critic, but I think it will keep you on the edge of your seats!

1) When did you write your first story/book? How old were you?
I think it was sometime around 2002. I was around 20 or 21. I’d just gotten out of a bad relationship, for which I’d moved to a different city, and I was struggling to find myself again. I was looking for new career paths and new hobbies. I started writing the novel I’d always wanted to write. It’s nothing like what I write now, and I never quite finished, but it got the ball rolling.

2) Are you a plotter or pantser?
Oh, I’m so much a pantser, it’s scary. I have to write linearly, no jumping from scene to scene for me! Lately I’ve been bothered by my lack of efficiency, so I’ve been trying really hard to come up with a workable outline when I start a story. I usually only get about halfway through the outline before the story goes off the rails and does what it wants.

3) What do you think makes your book stand out from the crowd?
I think what makes Shadows Fall unique is that it has a little pinch of just about everything. It has a serial killer, religious fanatics, genetic research, police procedural, paranormal elements, plus good old romance and drama. It’s got a lot going on, but in a good way.

4) How do you find or make time to write?
By the skin of my teeth. No day is ever the same. I work around my toddler’s activities and moods, my husband’s schedule, and my other obligations, and squeeze in time here and there whenever I can. It’s chaos, but I’m lucky to be able to do it.

5) What do you like to read in your free time?
My reading preferences are cyclical. I’ll go from strictly romance to strictly m/m, from paranormal to contemporary. Lately I’ve been reading a lot of mainstream thrillers and horror, because it puts me in the right mood for what I’m writing right now. I just recently finished Watchers by Dean Koontz, and now I’m reading Wolfen by Alianne Donelly.

A gift—or curse—gives Titus McGinty the unwanted ability to talk to ghosts. When he starts seeing the same few apparitions repeatedly, appearing with similar gruesome injuries, he begins to wonder what they want from him.

Detective Charlie Hale has a serial killer on his hands. On the loose for weeks, the Queen City Slayer has left the police nothing to go on, no forensic evidence other than what he wants found. The city is running out of time.

The crisis brings Titus and Charlie together—Titus stumbles upon a body and finds himself a suspect. Their budding romance is tested as they are sucked into a web of underground laboratories, restive spirits, and religious fanaticism. They’ll have to work together to find the identity of the killer before he takes his next victim…Titus.

About the author: J.K. Hogan has been telling stories for as long as she can remember, beginning with writing cast lists and storylines for her toys growing up. When she finally decided to put pen to paper, magic happened. She is greatly inspired by all kinds of music and often creates a “soundtrack” for her stories as she writes them. J.K. is hoping to one day have a little something for everyone, so she’s branched out from m/f paranormal romance and added m/m contemporary romance. Who knows what’s next?

J.K. resides in North Carolina, where she was born and raised. A true southern girl at heart, she lives in the country with her husband and young son, a cat, and two champion agility dogs. If she isn’t on the agility field, J.K. can often be found chasing waterfalls in the mountains with her husband, or down in front at a blues concert. In addition to writing, she enjoys training and competing in dog sports, spending time with her large southern family, camping, boating and, of course, reading! GRL & Blog Tour: My Cowboy Promises by Z.A. Maxfield

Starting from June 1, 2015, I will daily feature authors attending the three conventions I will join, Euro Pride in Munich (July), UK Meet in Bristol (September) and GRL in San Diego (October).

For the GRL in San Diego, October 15-18, 2015, today author is Z.A. Maxfield. Moreover I'm also hosting the Blog Tour for My Cowboy Promises: "I think the most enjoyable thing about being a writer is the subtle surprises you find along the way. I’m not one of those writers who will tell you their character does something surprising, because ultimately, I really believe that my characters should do what I tell them to do. I’m talking about the ways in which a writer might surprise herself.

I surprise myself all the time. Maybe I’ll begin with the idea for a character, and then I’ll start thinking about them in new ways. I start putting together their backstory, and sometimes, the way I react to that character can surprise me.

When I started writing My Cowboy Promises, I really wanted to get into my own headspace about what it means to be around twenty years old. I mean. It’s been a few…um…years, but I can remember exactly what I was thinking. What I was talking about, how much I drank, and how much I resented waiting for my skills and maturity to catch up with my dreams.

I guess it’s only natural that I drew the character Andi, Ryder Dent’s best friend/wife/biggest ally—a talented singer with Nashville dreams—rather vividly.

This comes directly from my past, I guess. I was as dumb, as feckless, and as determined, as she is. I was spoiled. I was self-centered. I sailed full-steam into what I wanted, and I didn’t hear the word “no.”

So Andi is light years ahead of a nice guy like her husband/best friend/biggest ally Ryder, who main goal seems to be to make everyone he loves happy. And that’s why Andi turned out to be the driver in this book, inadvertently, because Ryder can’t drive himself yet.

He’s a good boy, but he’s locked himself in the closet. He’s a virgin who marries Andi out of real, selfless love and loyalty. He truly believes that love and the child they’re raising together will be enough to sustain him because he has no idea what he’s missing out on. He can’t ask for what he needs because he doesn’t know what it is. So when he meets a guy who really, really flips his switch, it’s Andy who has to give him permission to go for it.

Aaaaaannd that is what made this book really hard to write. I kept wanting to put Ryder into the driver’s seat, but Ryder… Poor Ryder. He just can’t take the wheel. Not ever. Not even when he says, “I’m not a man who lets other people solve their problems,” because Andi is right there, busy little bee that she is, solving his problems before he realizes he has them.

It’s an odd dynamic, and one that wasn’t easy to write. But it felt authentic. Didn’t you ever just want to poke someone and say, “Grow UP?”

Maybe that’s just me.

Ryder’s rock solid. He’s loyal. He believes in keeping his word. But he’s still just a very young country boy. He says yes, ma’am and no, ma’am. He thinks before he speaks and he deliberates fully before he acts. He gets scared going forward so he sometimes takes a step back.

With that setup, a sweet almost-5-year-old named Jonas to take care of, and a lot of luck, Andi, Ryder, and Declan might just create a new kind of family. But there’s a lot that could get in their way: disapproving parents, Andi’s Nashville dreams, and Dr. Winters’s need to keep his personal life separate from his practice to name just a few. Who knows what will happen if people find out about them in a town as small as Bitterroot!

The one thing we know about being young and naïve is… it doesn’t last forever."

Publisher: InterMix (June 16, 2015)
Publication Date: June 16, 2015
Amazon Kindle: My Cowboy Promises (The Cowboy Series, Bk #4)

A real man needs a real love…

To become the man he’s meant to be, one cowboy will have to be the man he never wanted anyone to know he was…

Ryder Dent is a true-blue cowboy. A devoted son, husband and father, but one who is living a costly lie. When they were both young, Ryder and his closest female friend Andy thought they’d found the perfect solution to both their problems—she was single and pregnant, and he was secretly gay—so they got married and raised Jonas together.

When Ryder gets hurt at a party, his son’s new pediatrician comes to the rescue. The connection between Ryder and Dr. Declan Winters is sudden, powerful, and undeniable. Ryder loves Andy and the family they’ve created together—but they both need more. Can they pursue their hearts’ desire without destroying the life they’ve built and losing the son they love?

Author’s Bio: Z. A. Maxfield started writing in 2007 on a dare from her children and never looked back. Pathologically disorganized, and perennially optimistic, she writes as much as she can, reads as much as she dares, and enjoys her time with family and friends. If anyone asks her how a wife and mother of four manages to find time for a writing career, she’ll answer, “It’s amazing what you can accomplish if you give up housework.”

Her published books include Crossing Borders, Drawn Together, and the St. Nacho’s and Brothers Grime series from Loose Id, ePistols at Dawn and The Pharaoh’s Concubine from Samhain Publishing, and Notturno, Vigil, Stirring Up Trouble, and All Stirred Up from MLR Press.

Former Ranger turned FBI agent Reed Acton faces his biggest challenge yet: a Christmas visit from partner Trent Copeland’s parents. About the author: EM Lynley writes sizzling gay romance with a hint of mystery. She loves books where the hero gets the guy and the loving is 11 on a scale of 10. A Rainbow Award winner and EPIC finalist, EM has worked in high finance, high tech, and in the wine industry, though she'd rather be writing hot, romantic man-on-man action. She spent 10 years as an economist and financial analyst, including a year as a White House Staff Economist, but only because all the intern positions were filled. Tired of boring herself and others with dry business reports and articles, her creative muse is back and naughtier than ever. UK Meet: Elin Gregory

Starting from June 1, 2015, I will daily feature authors attending the three conventions I will join, Euro Pride in Munich (July), UK Meet in Bristol (September) and GRL in San Diego (October).

For the UK Meet in Bristol, September 11-13, 2015, today author is Elin Gregory: Elin Gregory lives in South Wales and works in a museum in a castle built on the edge of a Roman fort! She reckons that's a pretty cool job. It certainly provides more than enough inspiration for her writing. "The button from a military jacket found in an orchard, a 16th century Venetian coin found between the cobbles of a Welsh street, a carnelian from a Roman signet ring - one can't handle them without wondering who lost them, how much they regretted it and what kind of disaster was sparked off by the loss."

Elin always has new works on the go and she is currently finishing a novel set in 6th century AD England and contemplating one about the British Secret Service between the two World Wars. Any excuse to buy more books!

Your master has the field for today, but his name, whatever it might be, is without honour.

Then word comes that the King desires to cross the bridge. With an army approaching, a bright eyed archer enticing Olivier to desert and the first cracks beginning to show in the Black Knight's gruff demeanour, Olivier is left wondering if his honour is worth more than a chance for happiness.

Euro Pride Con: Helena Stone

Starting from June 1, 2015, I will daily feature authors attending the three conventions I will join, Euro Pride in Munich (July), UK Meet in Bristol (September) and GRL in San Diego (October).

For the Euro Pride in Munich, July 11-12, 2015, today author is Helena Stone: Helena Stone can’t remember a life before words and reading. After growing up in a household where no holiday or festivity was complete without at least one new book, it’s hardly surprising she now owns more books than shelf space while her Kindle is about to explode.

The urge to write came as a surprise. The realisation that people might enjoy her words was a shock to say the least. Now that the writing bug has well and truly taken hold, Helena can no longer imagine not sharing the characters in her head and heart with the rest of the world.

Having left the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam for the peace and quiet of the Irish Country side she divides her time between reading, writing, long and often wet walks with the dog, her part-time job in a library, a grown-up daughter and her ever loving and patient husband.

Cari Z. (born June 16, 1982)

Cari Z was a bookworm as a child and remains one to this day. In an effort to combat her antisocial reading behavior, she did all sorts of crazy things, from competitive gymnastics to alligator wresting (who even knew that was legal!) to finally joining the Peace Corps, which promptly sent her and her husband to the wilds of West Africa, stuck them in a hut, and said, "See ya!" She also started writing, because some things she just thought she could do better. She's still climbing that ladder, but can't stop herself from writing, or from sharing what she creates.

Cari enjoys a wide range of literary genres, from the classics (get 'im, Ahab) to science fiction and fantasy of all types, to historical fiction and reference materials (no, seriously, there are so many great encyclopedias out there). She writes in a wide range of genres as well, but somehow 90% of what she produces ends up falling into the broad and exciting category of m/m erotica. There's a sprinkling of f/m and f/f and even m/f/m in her repertoire, but her true love is man love. And there's a lot of love to go around.

Cari has published short stories, novellas, and novels with numerous print and e-presses, and she also offers up a tremendous amount of free content on Literotica.com, under the name Carizabeth.

Changing Worlds won a 2012 Rainbow Award as Best Gay Sci-fi/Fantasy. Camellia, co-authored with Caitlin Ricci, won a 2014 Rainbow Award as Best Lesbian Contemporary & Erotic Romance and Best Lesbian Book.

Includes the short story prequel "Opening Worlds" at no additional cost! In this sequel to Cari Z's "Opening Worlds", former starship captain Jason Kim travels to Perelan, the homeworld of his lover, Ferran, to start a life together. The ruling council of the Perels have allowed this unconventional union to continue in the hopes of strengthening relations between themselves and the humans. And while Ferran's family welcome Jason with open arms, not all of the other major families are as pleased. The arrival of an outsider to their insular, subterranean world challenges the traditions of centuries. Tensions soar as old rivalries are rekindled in the wake of Jason and Ferran's relationship. Inevitably, something snaps. Jason and Ferran soon find themselves literally fighting for their lives when xenophobic anger pushes things beyond the breaking point. Only their devotion to one another can see them through, but a ghost from Jason's past threatens even that. With Perelan on the brink of civil war, Jason and Ferran must find a way to stand together in the face of chaos and to change the world on their own terms before it tears itself apart.

Danny doesn't expect much to come from the interview she has lined up through her modelling agency, who told her only that it involved tea and a kink convention. She thinks it won't be much more than wearing some strange outfit, sitting around, and getting easy money that she desperately needs. What she gets instead is Lucy, a formidable woman in riding boots and a corset, who makes Danny want to please her without saying a word. By the end of the interview, Danny is convinced that her new job isn't going to be anywhere near as easy as she first believed. Can Danny make the woman determined to keep her at the end of her riding crop let her into her heart as well as her bed?
