GRL Featured Blog: Lisa Oliver

A writer’s life is always hectic; I often wish I could just sit and immerse myself in my stories and then have some magical fairy (preferably six feet tall and droolworthy) whisk it away and do all the other “Stuff.” The publishing, promoting and everything else associated with getting a book into my reader’s loving hands. Alas, no fairy has manifested so far, and this year I decided to attempt an even bigger challenge – attendance at GRL.
What was I thinking? I’m a typical dear old granny, who lives in rural New Zealand. I barely see people from one day to the next. But some devil on my shoulder whispered that it was a really good idea, which is why, in October I am leaving the safety of my nest and flying half way around the world to meet a bunch of people I’ve only connected with online. It will go on record as being the most exhilarating and knee-knocking experience I’ve ever had.
But already the support has been amazing. Friends messaging me who are so looking forward to meeting me. With typical writer’s worry, I hope they like me. I haven’t even started to worry about what I should pack, or what might happen if I miss my plane or can’t find my way to the hotel. I’ve scheduled those worries for the beginning of October. For now, the premise of GRL sits in my gut, slowly unfurling bringing with it excitement, hope and…yep, I’m scared too.
But the great thing about the M/M genre is the friendliness of readers and other authors alike. I’m going to get to physically hug those people who support my work with such excitement online. It is that thought I hang onto when the sheer terror of the travelling and meeting new people threatens to overwhelm me.
And it’s not as though I won’t be busy until then anyway. My newest book Harder in Heels (Alpha and Omega series, #4) was released a few weeks ago and can be found in the all the usual outlets. My A&O series are all standalone books with no relation to each other except they feature a true mating between, you guessed it, an Alpha and Omega. The next Cloverleah Pack book – Angel in Black Leather Pants, will be released in September and in October I have something new coming up, a completely new series featuring Angels and Demons. The series is called “Balance” and the first book The Viper’s Heart should be out by October 10th. Just in time for GRL.
Looking forward to seeing you all there. I’ll be the one in the corner, hiding behind the pot plant. Feel free to come and pull me into the crowd.

Amazon Kindle: Harder in Heels (Alpha and Omega #4)
Alpha and Omega series – book 4. Definite standalone.
Ronan Montgomery had built himself a good life; he had friends, a small apartment to call his own, and a fantastic job as a dancer/choreographer. He still missed his mother dearly, but even though she’d been dead five years, he adhered to her number one rule – stay away from other wolves. He knew, as an Omega, that others of his kind weren’t overly friendly with those they considered weak, but as he’d never met another wolf, he didn’t feel he’d anything to worry about. That was, until he spotted two Alpha wolves at one of his performances. Who knew one brief second of eye contact could change his life forever.
Asaph Bosch was a hard man and proud of it. He’d worked his way up from nothing, building a huge international company. When a random night out threatens all he’s worked for, Asaph fights back. His mate will be a woman, or he won’t have one at all. Unfortunately, his wolf half is just as strong and just as determined as he is, and Asaph finds his life changing in ways he’d never imagined.
But life was never meant to be easy – when Asaph’s past comes back to haunt him in more ways than one, Asaph has to examine his priorities. Is his happiness rooted in the company he’s worked so hard to build, or is there more to life than money?
Warning: Contains an omega wolf who’d been raised with perfect manners, and a surly Alpha who thinks everything in life can be bought and sold. Please note this is an m/m book so the typical warnings apply.
The Alpha and Omega series is made up of completely standalone books. None of the people featured appear in other books unless previously stated.

"Your Path is muddy, Kelnaht, but don't think avoiding the puddles will make it easier to travel."
Kelnaht, a cloud elf, is a truth seeker caught between love and faith, when a murder reveals an illicit affair between two tree elves he desires more than he can admit. Kelnaht's former lover Ianys once betrayed him, and the shunned forester Taruif is not allowed to talk to anyone but the guide, their spiritual pathfinder.
The guide mentioned puddles, but I envisioned lakes, deep treacherous lakes, and I was drowning.
Then a stripling goes missing from the tribe, and heavy rainfall hides all traces of his whereabouts. With days creeping by without a lead, it's hard to keep the tribe's spirits up, more so when Kelnaht's own future depends on the elders. Taruif has been shunned for almost twenty turns, but now that a possible forester's apprentice is coming of age, the elders consider reducing his sentence. Taruif could be set free.
“I have great responsibilities, but my path ahead is as foggy and blurred as the path behind me.”
Later, when several children fall ill with more than a summer bug, truth seeker Kelnaht is assigned to investigate. What he finds is deadly and threatens the life of every underage child in the tribe, including Ianys' daughter Atèn. Then a wounded traveller is found in the forest, left to die after a vicious attack.
"There is always a way."
Kelnaht, Taruif, and Ianys are meant to be together, but old promises and the decree of the elders prevent them from claiming each other openly at Solstice. Kelnaht can investigate murder and foul play, but he can’t see how he can keep both his lovers without breaking the rules. But if he believes in the guide's words and trusts his faith in Ma’terra, they will find a way to clear the fog and puddles from their paths.

Beauregard Boudreaux is a native of New Orleans Louisiana, born and raised there, he never thought he would ever stray far from home. The untimely death of his first love left Beau lost, adrift, looking for a place as far away from the pain as possible. Initially, he came to New York to visit a friend, the city growing on him, so he decided to stay. His law degree comes in handy at the LGBT Center he runs, but his bar is his baby. William Richards grew up in Chicago, his family oddly normal and very accepting of his sexuality. Modeling paid the bills, gigs across the country as a model, male entertainer and a personal trainer giving him the opportunity to see the world. He hasn’t experienced loss or pain as Beau has, the common denominator between them is the loneliness. As All Cocks big, brooding bottom Connor, William has found friendship, family and an outlet for his craving to be more submissive than men of his size and stature usually are. The two men are perfect for each other, their tastes and lives align and the writing seems to be on the wall. But Beau has a secret he shares with a choice few, a secret that not only threatens to keep them apart, it’s deadly. Determined to keep a wall between himself and William, Beau fights the attraction, pushes William away every time he steps closer. Can one man’s determination and strength be enough to tear down a wall that holds back decades of pain and darkness? And if he can, will either of them survive the flood? Disclaimer: This book is the fictional story of a man living with HIV. I have put a lot of time and effort into presenting this story as true to fact as possible, without going into gory or gruesome detail. If this subject is a trigger for you, you may want to skip this read. But my hope is that you give Beau a chance to capture your heart as he has mine, and William’s.

2016 Rainbow Awards: The Hunger Man by Scott D. Pomfret (277-08-14-2016)

Gay Historical
Publisher: NineStar Press (June 6, 2016)
Amazon Kindle: The Hunger Man
At the outset of the Great Irish Potato Famine of 1845-50, a family of Irish revolutionaries attacks a British food convoy and kidnaps a young English officer named Julian Hawke. This first act of overt rebellion unleashes a series of events that both inextricably ties the O’Rahilly clan to Hawke and to the gay seanachie (storyteller) Ciaran Leath, but also seals their fates.
The only daughter, Muireann O’Rahilly, an aspiring physician, fails to resist the strong mutual attraction between her and Hawke. Hawke tries to balance his love for Muireann and his growing love for Ireland with his duty to suppress the budding rebellion. Ciaran Leath, who falls in love with both Julian Hawke as well as an angelic young tinker man, foresees both the coming famine and the disintegration of his adopted O’Rahilly clan, but finds himself unheard and powerless to protect them—or himself. Encountering spirits of the dead and other bad portents, Ciaran Leath invokes his old benefactor, the ancient Faerie Fin Bheara, but in doing so learns something devastating about himself and of what he is capable. When the O’Rahilly clan sets its sights on assassinating Queen Victoria, whom Hawke is sworn to protect, during her 1848 state visit to Cork, the stakes loom large for all involved, and the story turns inexorably toward a tragic end.
Against the backdrop of the terrible beauty and exquisite misery of southwestern Ireland during the famine years, this part-comic, part-romantic struggle against starvation, oppression, and one’s own worst impulses plots an epic arc from London and Dublin to Cork and New York City. Magic, Faeries, haunts, spirits, legends, ancient kings, monsters, and lovers richly populate this clash between the British Crown and the Irish people, and there can only be one survivor.
The Hunger Man contains adult content suitable for mature readers only.
