In response to stroking of the sole of the foot in infants, a normal reflex or sign after French neurologist Joseph François Felix Babinski extends the great toe, sometimes with fanning; a disturbance of the pyramidal tract usually associates it in children and adults.

This hospital doctor served as president of the neurological society and joined as member of the academy of sciences.
