10 Year Anniversary

I just noticed the 10 year anniversary of this blog is upon us. Figured I'd look back on the blog's origins and see where I was. See what's changed, what's the same.

First off, a picture guarantees higher views so let's knock out the me 10 years ago vs today bit:

Exploring the woods of the Sandbar with sunglasses I bought on honeymoon
in the Dominican Republic. Jax the dog was surely with me (RIP).
And I bet I turned this day into a short story.
Right. I'ma just post my very first blog and...

March 2022 News

These always sneak up on me! Here comes a lot of pics & some updates.

February Recap in pics

Camping & caving

Camping in 25ish degrees Fahrenheit was a first for me, and not something I care to do again soon, although by the end I'd pretty much figured out how to conquer the cold.

we fashioned a clothes line and got mistaken for gypsies.
I wish I was kidding.

Day 1 cave was a casual exploration just off the highway. Quite muddy.
Day 2 we had to scour a mountainside to find the cave entrance.
It honestl...

February 2022 News

So many things are new! Let's stick to the interesting bits. But first, look at these stats. Read it and weep, you illiterates.

cherishing this before NYT gets their claws on it and spackles it in adsEditing

I'm making progress! Added backstory for Kraus the Corpse. Cleaned up some [name withheld] and made him less obnoxious, more fun. Added some geography, Sprake lore, foreshadowing.

There's still work to be done, and that's before I even get going with the copy-editor.

Frankly, I'm kinda over t...

January 2022 News

Happy 2022 to you. Let's get into it, we're late getting started.

As usual, I took off (day job) the last two weeks of the year. The ol' refresh button for my mental health. You understand. I made a to-do list and was able to smash 9/10s of it.

Writing (editing as it were)

Over the break I knocked out the last of the character overhauls. What remains in edits are proper introductions and foreshadowing of persons and events, and some general tidying up.

Assuming I can exercise discipline, develop...

December 2021 News

Oh gosh it's time. Hey December.

One day I'm going to never be cold again. Unsure how but I'll figure it out. Subscribe to this channel and smash that mf like button to make sure not to miss a thing. Or something.

For the record, I never want one of these updates to stand in the way of actual progress. If I ever have to choose, creating (which means editing right now) will supersede the update.

Edits

Would you believe I'm not done yet? Because I'm not.

Schala

I haven't spoken on her lately. I should...

November 2021 News

Hi there, hello. This one snuck up on me. Quick update:

Editing V&V

Last month I mentioned making a plan to fix a broken character. I'd said "There are only five scenes from his point of view. Here's hoping it comes naturally."

It did come naturally, and he became more lovable and unfortunately characters are starting to like him...

That's nearing completion.

Pics from my phone

What? This a new thing or something?

Yeah. I take a lot of pics and they just sit on my phone. Time to share some!

Aren't the...

October 2021 News

Let's flap gums on editing for a minute. I've been at it a while and certainly have some expertise. I'll keep it exciting. And packed full of jokes, apparently.

John Jarrold is the developmental editor for V&V and he is a gift. However amazing this book was destined to be, he's already made it far better.
John's well known in the industry, having worked as an agent and editor with a ton of influential authors from the late 80s and still to this very day. A recent acquisition of his I enjoyed was 2...

September 2021 News

What's better, to watch and mark the relentless passage of time or to turn a blind eye and pretend it sits still?

For the first all you need is a monthly newsletter requirement. That could be enough to unnerve you and bolster self-loathing. It does me. If you need something stronger, get a weekly calendar to keep up with and warn of key events. These help to pretend our weeks are unique and that time matters. Watch in horror as week after week rolls by and your goals go unmet. If those fail to g...
