Oatmeal-apple-pecan muffins
The recipe was actually for oatmeal-pumpkin-chocolate chip muffins, but I didn’t have any pumpkin or mini chips. I did have homemade applesauce and pecans. The applesauce had pretty much the same consistency as pumpkin puree, so. I changed some things, because of course I did. I used foil cupcake cups because I have found they […]

In today’s mail–
–books! Actual, finished, all printed up, complete with Gideon family tree books. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a cover like this. The predominant color is grey, but it’s far from drab. The paper has a satiny, pearlescent finish, so it looks silvered. The smoke looks smoky. The letters have a smoother finish, and that’s enough […]

Happy Thanksgiving!
If you celebrate, I hope you had a good day with family, friends, and really good food. If you didn’t celebrate, I hope you had pretty much the same, except with maybe a little less food. One thing I’ve been so very thankful for it the critical response to GIDEON thus far. Late last week, GIDEON […]

Bourbon Bacon Jam
I had seen recipes for bacon jam around the internet for a while, and settled on this one for Bourbon Bacon Jam. Yesterday I picked up a pound and a half of bacon and a bottle of Corner Creek bourbon. Thought about getting Maker’s Mark, but figured that would be going a little overboard. Did a few things […]

Romantic Times review
GIDEON received 4 1/2 stars from RT, and the review is great. “Anchored by well-crafted prose that features a creepy-as-hell villain, Gideon feels like Arthur Miller’s “The Crucible” brilliantly reconceived in a Neil Gaiman-esque universe. Gordon hooks readers from page one….” Even happier author.

Cold
Damn cold. Single digit wind chills. It’s only mid-November. Please don’t let this be a repeat of last winter. I am pretty sure that the words “polar vortex” are enough to cause anyone who made it through last winter to shiver uncontrollably and lapse into blank-eyed mumbling. JERICHO is starting to fill out, even though it […]

Interstellar
So, I saw INTERSTELLAR today. I loved it. I read some of the reviews that complained of lack of emotional center or something–all F/X flash and no pan. I don’t think we saw the same movie. Could you argue deus ex machina? Yeah, I guess, but it didnt appear out of nowhere–the breadcrumbs were there. […]

FIRST REVIEW!
From Kirkus! “A seductive work of paranormal horror that will draw readers into its cold and gloomy world…In the end, the book is as much about life in a small, closed-off community that believes “blood tells” and character can be inferred from a last name as it is about elemental magic and the struggle between […]

Something in common
A few days ago, I read the Stephen King interview in Rolling Stone. I had seen most of the info in other interviews and stories over the years–how he got started, his drug issues, his accident and recovery–but what struck me most was the short description of how he began his day: “I wake up. I […]
