Prescription For Love

Prologue   The shallow knocks on the door felt like a jarring in the depth of my fledgling soul. I sat on bed twirling a jittery finger around a loose thread in the fluffy pink comforter that did nothing to cushion the blows to my heart. I looked up at the ceiling naïvely and wondered if God would grant me a small reprieve. I couldn’t face what lie beyond the door without revealing myself, my emotions and what state of downfall was consuming my soul.      “Bug, I know you’re in there. I’m not

SAYING YES

Here's a little teaser... It's almost out the door. They'll take it or you'll get it. One way or the other it's the hottest thing I've written to date. Enjoy my seductive friends.    “Fuck…fuck…fuck…” She no longer cared if she was reprimanded for the word. There was nothing else. Desperation had a hold of her mind and body. Her stomach tightened as the unease of an intense climbing throb settled in her abdomen like the slow roll of thunder. A harsh bolt of lightning couldn’t suppress how badly

Tantalizing Novellas

Novellas are short stories that tantalize, tingle and tease. They are used to draw you headfirst into a novel, often giving you a glimpse of the book ahead. Novellas can also be a series with a common theme or character. It may follow the life of a particular person or place. Some are standalone books that drive sales between novels. Authors have had great success writing novellas. Some never dabbling beyond the 15,000-20,000 words.

I am the master of long prose, big plots and deep story lines. My books have always been novels. Saying Yes, the book that’s been written since January is a monstrous novel. It started at 87,000 words, then revisions took it to 110,000 words. Now, it’s in one last phase of edits and it’s climbing. My agent of choice is not concerned. I think she’d rather manipulate it herself – prodding and poking it until it’s refined to her liking. Prescription for Love and Desired are both more than halfway through but remain novels. There’s no getting away from it, they’re big stories. However, I want to write a series of shorts – novella’s, short stories, mini-novels. Call them what you will. I want to offer luscious teases of finely threaded tales to delight my readers and keep them yearning for more.

I have started to dabble with a common theme, a person if you will, her/his story that’s on-going. Most of you know I write contemporary romance. My friends that are authors would say the heat level of my books is pretty steamy. I've gotten a few “Oh my god’s!” The best was a male friend of mine who is an avid devourer of books – maybe not the genre I write, but he gave it a shot and I think the comment went something like this: “Holy shit…that was…I just don’t know, Heather. I had to put it down for a while.” The blush was as priceless as the comment itself. At any rate, I don’t write erotica. I may push the boundaries, but my stories are more plot than sex. The sex is just really, really hot. Writing great sex is a talent. Make no mistake. A story can flow fluidly without issue and then boom it gets steamy and fingers go as rigid on the keyboard as a man’s silky, tight-skinned erection. (Don’t freak, just blush and move on. I wanted to use a much more profound word than erection but refrained –winks-). Every sensation must be felt. You want to taste what they taste, feel the caress of hot, damp flesh sliding over yours. How a set of lips feels stealing your breath because their desire is so consuming it’s all they can do not to steal more. The glide of someone’s tongue as it dances with yours, weaving and twisting in discovery. I say this not only to tease the pants off everyone but to let you know, the series of novella’s I’m proposing can’t be told without taking up the heat factor. Believe me…it can rise! There’s no other way to tell Claire’s story. She’s a high-priced call girl with two lives. She disguises one life for the other to live out her fantasies and the fantasies of the men that pay handsomely for her time. By day, her life is sterile, mundane and unassuming, but by night it’s anything goes if the money’s right. Her talents are vast, her body svelte. She’s a lover of men, but no man is quite enough.

So give me the time to finish Saying Yes – round three edits. Then it’s Claire and the rest of the books you’ve all been waiting for. Saying Yes, is going out to seven agents and editors. They all wanted it. If they don’t scoop it up soon, it’s yours for the taking.

Up, up and away!

With New York City a thing of the past, it's onwards and upwards. The national convention for Romance Writer's of America was last week. I made so many wonderful connections this year and reconnected with my friends from here and abroad. I always love attending, but I'm glad to get home. A week with two thousand women in one hotel can be a bit overwhelming. The conference culminated with the awards ceremony on Saturday night. The Rita’s and Golden Heart winners. It’s our version of the Oscars. It was a great night for everyone that took home awards and for those that didn't win, it was an honor to be listed in their prospective categories. Tiffany Reisz won for erotic contemporary with The Sinner Series. Since it's the category I'd be competing in, it's the one that I always take note of and try to read all the authors that make the nominations. The Sinner Series is on my "to read" list on Goodreads and I've uploaded it to my Kindle. She was a delight to meet.

I came back from the conference on a high. I pitched my book SAYING YES this year, despite the fact that I am still in talks with Loose Id. Since they have yet to offer me a contract, I'm keeping my options open. I really wanted to find an agent and I think I might have scored one of the best. Jessica Alvarez with Bookends. She'd be a dream agent so I'm submitting my book and hoping for the best. I did pitch to 5 other editors and agents and they all requested full copies of my manuscript. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Me and my author/editor are doing a once over on SAYING YES and then it's out of my hands.

I have released the box set for MERGER The Complete Series Books 1-3. At this time, it's only on Amazon. I’m in the process of pushing into the other platforms: Kobo, IBooks, Nook and Smashwords, but until then it’s Kindle only.

Here's what I'm listening to:
Slave To Love by Bryan Ferry
Made popular in the sexiest movie of its time - 9 1/2 Weeks

Happy Reading! Stay tuned in and turned on!

Did you say free? Yes, I did!

There's been a lot rattling around in the twisted mind of Heather Miles, but while you think it's been all hot plots and new sex-laden, mouth-watering novels (those too), it's been a feeling. Yes, a feeling. It could be more, better, perfect prose, more show – less tell, more concise. Just…better. That it was unfinished business. I needed to fix it because I am a perfectionist at heart and couldn’t just sit back on it while it drove me crazy. I did the unthinkable. What you say? Well...I am better than the original version of MERGER. Yes, it's true. Look at book two shine brightly and book three is even better. Anyway as I push the button on the box set tonight at 11:00 pm, I wanted to go into tomorrow's trip to the national Romance Writer's Conference with Merger on the back burner. I want to go there with confidence that I've done all I can. All I can say now is...WOW! I rewrote the darn thing. You heard me. I line edited it to perfection and with the help of a very awesome friend in Texas, we tackled the hardest thing ever - a rewrite. Most people won't ever do it. They think, "well I'll just do better next time" or, "so it's not my best work." I assure you that every author has a book out there that they wish wasn't on the market or one they credit to youthful writing, inexperience and lack of craft. Merger was that book for me. But no more!!!

I republished the first book and I'm going to gift it to anyone who can prove they own the original. My gift to you for your review and your loyalty. I'm better than my first book and with SAYING YES in the works to be published by a big publishing house, it was only right to leave MERGER in the best possible standing. I am offering an e-book version only. Sorry for you diehard bound book junkies. For anyone that didn't buy it originally and really, really want the opportunity to get me to gift you a copy, feel free to ask. I'm feeling generous. If I don't oblige you, it's only .99 cents. It's that good! As a matter of fact, if I get the contract I want, I'm asking them to take all the books on for rebranding and republishing.

I will put out the box set tonight. I need to format and upload. That's it...Merger is done. I'll be going into the national conference pitching PRESCRIPTION FOR LOVE and DESIRED. The excerpts from those books are on the front page of the website. Help yourself to a teaser or two. In the meantime, blog me a request for the book, send me an email at me@heathermiles.net or Tweet me that you have to have it. You can go to my author page and plead lovingly that you'd review it for a free copy. I'll be listening and waiting for anyone that wants to delve back in. I have such loyal fans. I love you guys.

So box set tonight and the rest is history. I am going to have a Merger and Martini's party in my hometown at the end of summer and I will post it here. I know that takes most of you out of the mix, but coming to the Mississippi Delta is more than just me. I'm really just an added bonus! So…come if you can!

It's a journey not a race and as I move forward I hope that you'll stay tried and true. Life is good!

MERGER COMPLETE (Merger Series, Book 3) Complete!!!

It's been a sweet ride for K.K. and Josh...and Jake...and Jeremy. But only one man will stand in the end. MERGER COMPLETE (Merger, Book #3) is out and available on all sites. There may be a delay in iBooks because I listed the other sites for each of my books. Apple doesn't like their competitors, so I had to upload again. At any rate, you can get it on every other platform and paperback. It was a true labor of love. It's odd to think that I will no longer be concentrating on K.K. and Joshua, but I may branch out at a later date with a run-off story about one of the characters. I hope you all enjoyed reading the series as much as I enjoyed writing it. You can find the links to all three books on the "My Books" tab on my website.

I am putting out the complete box set in the next couple of weeks and people that have never read any of the books will be able to upload them all at one time for one price. I will send out an alert when it's been completed. So, if you know someone who's intersted in the series, the box set is on the horizon.

I have a Goodreads promotion running for the next month. I will be autographing 5 copies of MERGER COMPLETE and sending them out at the end of the contest. Feel free to sign up for your chance to win - GOODREADS CONTEST

Right now I am running MERGER for .99 on all sites and if you still haven't read MERGER UNDONE, you can download it for 50% off on Smashwords with this coupon code: UR28R

Next in the works is PRESCRIPTION FOR LOVE. SAYING YES is still floating around to traditional publishers. Some have rejected it for length (110K) and some for other reasons, which they rarely state. I am going to let it go until after my Romance Writers Conference in July. My critique partner and fellow River City Romance Writers think is a winner, so they aren't letting me pull it off the table. However, if I can't get it in the right hands, I will publish it myself. Until then I'm moving onward and upward.

Have a wonderful read with MERGER COMPLETE and check back often to see what's next. I thank each and everyone of you for following me on this journey. I'm having the time of my life. It's no longer a dream...it's a reality!

Yours truly,

Heather M. Miles
