1,000 Names

Meet my ancestors!I set a goal at the beginning of the year to index 1,000 records through Family Search and each Sunday, I've logged on and worked toward that goal. I'm happy to say I accomplished it!
An example indexing record.Indexing consists of digitizing and documenting records to make them more accessible and include everything from census records to marriage, birth and death certificates. It sounds like a tedious process, and sometimes concentrating while trying to decipher scrawling c...

Easy Fruit Salad

This is an easy fruit salad that has a simple dressing that doesn't overpower the sweetness of the fruit. Feel free to switch up what fruit you have for whatever you've got on hand. Great dish to take and share with others!

Ingredients:

1 can pineapple chunks, undrained
1 can mandarin oranges, drained
2 cups green grapes
2 cups sliced strawberries
1 cup blueberries
2 kiwi, diced
1 small package instant vanilla pudding

Drain the pineapple juice into a small bowl. Whisk together with the vanilla pudding...

Joy Run

What a beautiful sunset!Henry's coming up on a few months old and I've been cleared to return to normal activity (though honestly, I guess I hadn't been keeping from most of my normal activities anyway, but hey, now it's official). I've been anxious to get back to running because I love the feel of being in good shape, getting out for some fresh air and quiet scenery and for time to think.
Evelyn barely fits in our single jogging stroller anymore! Of course, what I always forget is what a...

Cookie Dough Dip

Yummy! Here's a quick, not-too-sweet, non-bake treat for family night, game day, or, you know, whenever! We halved the recipe and it was p-l-e-n-t-y for all of us to enjoy. Dip in graham crackers, vanilla wafers, or pretzels for a sweet and salty twist!

Ingredients:

8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
1/2 cup butter, room temperature
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 pinch salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 cup cool whip
3/4 cup chocolate chips

Cream together butter and cream cheese until light an...

Cat Nap

Claire loves her kitties! It's no secret that Claire loves cats. She wears clothes featuring cats, wants to be some sort of cat about every Halloween, sports kitty ears without shame, carries around Hercules and Snickers like they're rag dolls (good thing they don't mind it!) and now, takes cat naps in the sun.
Found her out on the deck where the cats also like to snooze. She takes cat adoration seriously.

Hot Date

Our very own bonfire, sans children. Mostly.Jack and I had a hot date late night.
Literally.
Henry and Hercules were there too.  Weird? Nah. We were sitting by a small but hot bonfire, chatting about nothing in particular, enjoying the clear, starry night and crisp, autumn weather.

Just the kind of dates we like!

Sum Up Claire

If I had to sum up Claire, it partly would be by this photo: cat ears, crazy hair, eclectic outfit, insects, barefoot, dimples, big, blue eyes, giant smile.

Can You Say Pig?

Always eating...Stoney and Dancer will go through at least this much hay over a winter (not to mention any other grain or additional treats they get).

Can you say pig?
'Cause I sure can.
Thank goodness for book royalties on Headed for the Win  and Road to the Regalia!

Law of the Harvest

This is an end of season gathering--we've had so much from the garden that we don't know what to do with it!I'm a firm believer in the law of the harvest, or, in other words, you reap what you sow. We put a lot of work into this place--gardening, the bees, weeding, canning, the chickens...it's so satisfying to see our labors pay off. Our first hen-hatched chicks!!! Soooooo cute!!!This year has been similar to years past and it's been incredible to see how much bounty we've been blessed with. T...

Sweet Fire Chicken

Sweet and a little spicy? Yum!I tried out this recipe on my family for the first time last night and it was delicious. It was a quick to assemble (and can be made in the slow cooker if you plant ahead!) and is a different twist on the typical Asian cuisine we usually prepare.

Ingredients:

3 chicken breasts, cubed
1 red bell pepper, chopped
1 can pineapple chunks, drained

Sauce
2 teaspoons minced garlic
1 to 2 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes
1 cup sweet and sour sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 Tablespoons...
