They ate their dinner in silence. Fae realized in those quiet moments that she had a major problem.She’d not only kissed her professor, she desperately wanted to kiss him again. No. Desperate was not a strong enough word. It took supreme effort not to jump out of her seat and throw her arms around him.“Um,” she said and cleared her throat, “that probably shouldn’t happen again.”Nick didn’t answer. A scowl settled on his face.“I mean,” Fae continued, “This could complicate things. I don’t want you to feel you need to give me a good grade, just because you might…”“Might what?” he asked when she didn’t’ continue.“I don’t want to put words in your mouth,” she said.“Right,” he said. He seemed want to say something, but paused to consider his words. “How about I tell you how I feel? That way you won’t be putting words into my mouth.”“Okay.”He looked her directly in the eyes. “I think you’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever laid eyes on. So it goes without saying that I’m attracted to you. And I’ve had enough experience with women to know you’ve had little experience with men. Rules aside, I’d still move slowly with you.”Fae swallowed and gave a shaky nod.“But the truth is I am your professor. So this relationship cannot move further than what it is now. That is until the end of the term. And no, I won’t be giving you any grade you don’t deserve.”“But, once the term ends,” he continued, “all bets are off. I intend to pursue a relationship with you. I expect keeping my hands off you will be difficult in the meantime. I think we are both reasonable adults and have enough self-control to keep things at a professional level. Right?”Fae nodded, feeling a bit relieved. “I do have one question,” she said.“Yes?”“You said our relationship couldn’t go farther than it is.”“Right,” he said.“And we’ve already kissed.”A frown settled on his face. It looked like he could guess what she was about to say. Warmth flooded her cheeks. She asked in a small voice, “So, can I kiss you again?”He closed his eyes and shook his head as he groaned and gave a weak chuckle. “You’re going to make things difficult, aren’t you?” When he opened his eyes, he stood up, pulled her out of her seat, and wrapped his arms around her. Her eyes widened and heart pounded as her body melded against his. He looked down and gave her a smoldering look as the scent of his cologne teased her senses and made her mouth water. “I can’t think of any alternate reality where I would ever say no when you ask me that question.” With that said, he leaned forward and kissed her so thoroughly, she could scarcely remember her own name.

Holly Kelly is a mom who writes books in her spare time: translation--she hides in the bathroom with her laptop and locks the door while the kids destroy the house and smear peanut butter on the walls. She was born in Utah but moved around a bit, living in Kansas, Texas, and Hawaii where she studied marine biology. She's now back in Utah--"happy valley". Intruders Among Us
A shadow caught my attention in the shower this morning. My near-sighted eyes focused on the spot while my head prayed it wasn’t what a suspected it to be—a spider.
Leaning closer—inches separating my face from this foggy image—I realized my fear was coming true. Trapped in a small shower, there was little I could do to move out of its way.
As I lathered, I watched the shadow, now frozen in its place—likely as afraid of me as me of him. Shampooing proved more difficult. As the soap rinsed from my hair, I closed my eyes for a few seconds. YES. SECONDS. But as my eyes reopened and I refocused on the area where the grayed spot shadowed the bright white tile, I realized my newly found friend (or enemy) was gone.
Panic set in as I again realized there was no place to go. No place to hide. My three-and-a-half-foot by three-and-a-half-foot space was more like a jail cell than a shower stall
I envisioned the blood splattered walls my husband would find—you know—after this creature killed me. I mean… what did I expect? The house was quiet and still. It was pre-dawn, after all. I had awoken early—earlier than normal—and opted to shower.What other soul IN THEIR RIGHT MIND would be up and moving around at this time? No one. My mastiff didn’t even raise his head when I stepped into the bathroom to face my demon in my shower from hell.
Huh.
Finally, eyeballing the spider’s whereabouts at a much higher level, I quickly conditioned my hair. Despite the danger I was in, shampooed hair without conditioner would put me in a far worse predicament than I was currently in.
Seconds later, my attacker had changed course.
The spider was on a fast clip now. Moving in different directions leaving me in fear again, now faced with my next move. With no stopping him in sight, I chose not to shave my legs. Yes. I said that. Now my choice of clothing for the day would be affected. I’d have to reselect my attire which could ultimately determine whether I have a good day, or a not-so-good one. Great.
And yes, the spider was still on the loose.
Grabbing a towel, I attempted drying, while watching the beast out of the corner of my eye.
In the end, I won. My sudden movement scared the intruder into a frozen state—at least temporarily. Once free from my tomb and wrapped in a towel, I could face him head on with tissue in hand.
It was over in seconds.
No one intrudes on my shower and lives to tell about it.

Sandy Goldsworthy was raised in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, blocks from the rocky shores of Lake Michigan. As a child, she fantasized about becoming an author. She jotted story lines in spiral notebooks and drew images of characters that never came to life. Her passion for putting pen to paper began when her high school English teacher inspired her to be more descriptive in her work. Ever since, Sandy dabbled in creative writing, searching for that perfect shade of red and that character you want to get to know.
Admittedly, Sandy is addicted to coffee and dark chocolate, and is obsessed with all things paranormal. She records more movies and television shows than is humanly possible to watch in a lifetime, and swears there's a ghost in her house. When not writing, Sandy can be found curled up on the couch nose-deep into a book, or trying to catch up on that recorded season of some paranormal series.

“She used to tell me that a full moon is when mysterious things happen and wishes come true.” I stared at the little paper in my hands. “Do you think she tells my sister those stories?”
Daniel didn’t respond. He only listened. I had told him before I had a sister. He had probably assumed I lied, but I hadn’t. It was the truth, and it tumbled out like a story my mom created before bedtime. I tried to picture her telling stories to my sister, but nothing came. I only saw the little girl, with Mom’s hair and Dad’s eyes, standing in the road, saying my name.
“I’ve never met her,” I confessed, staring at the writing bleeding through the folded end. “I think her name is on this, but I can’t read.”
Daniel reached for it. “I can—”
“No.” I held the note against my chest. “I want to learn and read it on my own,” I explained, softer than my previous snap.
Daniel’s head tilted. “Robert never taught you.”
I wasn’t sure if it was a question or a statement, but I responded anyway. “He can’t read.”
Daniel’s eyes swept over me. He took the time to rub his face before looking away.
“He can’t read,” I repeated, studying his reaction. “Right?”
Daniel’s hand lowered to his lap. “I can teach you,” he said, and when he faced me again, he was remarkably closer than I realized. His hand moved to rest on my knee. My heart stabilized. “What else do you want?”
It was a question I had never heard before, and the way Daniel stumbled over the sentence suggested he had never been able to say it before either. Bad bloods weren’t allowed to want anything. Not even life. So, when I was asked, my mind spiraled into obscurity, never actually solidifying an answer even though I searched for one.
“I’ve never been allowed to want anything,” I confessed.
“Me neither,” Daniel agreed, and for a brief second, I was oblivious to the fact that his lips were on mine.
