How to Use Tarot Card Keywords to Learn Tarot Faster
Learn the EASY Way to Read Tarot Cards Accurately and Intuitively
When I first started learning Tarot, I spent weeks, months and even years trying to memorise each and every one of the 78 Tarot card meanings. I would sit in my bedroom, surrounded by flashcards, notebooks and markers, trying desperately to rote learn the Tarot cards and commit the meanings to memory.
But there was just one problem – it didn’t work!
No matter how hard I tried to memorise the card meanings, I would still have to look up what the cards meant in the middle of a reading. (There was no way I could become a professional Tarot reader if I was having to look up meanings!)
And, because I was putting so much of my energy into remembering the cards and hoping I was right, I was completely ignoring my intuition. You see, when we are trying to recall information, we’re using a totally different part of our brain to our intuition. All of this memorising and recall actually shuts down our intuition and we end up with readings that are robotic, dull and completely uninspired!
Total Tarot fail!
I knew I had to do something different
Instead of trying to memorise every one of the 78 Tarot cards in exact detail, I decided to simplify things and only focus on the 2 or 3 keywords for every card.
I created a Tarot card keyword chart and put it up where I did my Tarot readings.
WOAH! Totally new experience!
Now, instead of worrying about whether I could remember what a card meant or if I had it right or wrong, I could now quickly glance at the Tarot keyword chart and boom! My intuition would open up and my readings would take on a whole new energy.
These keywords became seeds of inspiration that then opened up the doorway to something even bigger and more insightful for my readings.
And now, you can do the same! Let me show you how…
How to Get Started with a Tarot Card Keyword Chart
First things first – you need to download (or create) a Tarot Keyword Chart.
Well, I’ve got you covered!
I’ve created a free printable Tarot Card Keyword Chart right here. (Click here to access)
Inside, you’ll find my personal keywords for all 78 upright and reversed Tarot cards, all ready for you to download, print and start using straight away.
Super easy!
I’ve also included a blank Tarot keyword chart, because there is a HUGE amount of value in creating your own Tarot card keywords. (Simply download the Keyword Chart here and it’s all yours!)
If you’re creating your own, here’s what I recommend…
Look at each card and connect with the energy of the card
Brainstorm 8 to 10 different keywords or phrases that come to mind when you look at the card
Circle the 2 or 3 keywords that truly capture the essence of the card
Add those to your keyword char
Simple as that!
(If you’re very new to the Tarot, then you have my permission to also throw in a bit of research to find out how others interpret the cards… BUT, make sure you check in intuitively with the card too.)
OK, so you’ve got your Tarot card keyword chart. Now what?
How to Read Tarot Intuitively with Tarot Keywords
Now, some people might have you believe that you can now do a Tarot reading just with those keywords. But wouldn’t that be a little strange?
“Your past is the Emperor – solid foundation, father-figure. Your future is the Lovers – relationships, choices”. Uh – boring!
To make the most of your Tarot card keywords, here’s what you want to do…
Ask the question, shuffle the cards and lay them out. Now, before you even look at those keywords, tune in to your cards in front of you. What intuitive messages do you get? What do you think the cards might mean for you?
Once you feel like you have explored each card, then check in with yourself – are there any gaps here? Are all the cards speaking to you, or are you feeling a little blank with one or two?
Let’s say you asked about your new relationship and you drew the Six of Pentacles and it has you completely stumped! No worries – pull out your Tarot card keyword chart.
You’ll see in my Tarot Card Chart, the keywords for the Six of Pentacles include “generosity” and “sharing wealth”.
Think about those keywords and how they may relate to your question or situation. Remember, you’re creating the opportunity for your intuition to sparkle, so be creative! Hmm… maybe there’s something here about combining your finances or offering to pay for a meal more often?
See how easy it becomes to learn and read Tarot at the same time?! AND, even better, you’re not doing it at the expense of your intuition. You’re freeing up your intuition to really come through – and that’s exactly what we want when we read Tarot!
Caution: Don’t Let Tarot Card Keywords Limit You
It might be easy to think that all you need to do to master the Tarot card meanings is learn the keywords and you’re done! Uh – not quite…
Keywords are great for simplifying the learning process and helping you access your intuition during a Tarot reading. But if you only learn the keywords and ignore the rest, you’ll find yourself limited and back to square one.
So, make sure you’re using Tarot keywords alongside other learning methods too. And don’t be limited to just the keywords in front of you. If your intuition is showing you something different, go with it! That’s the whole idea!
Remember, keywords are not the be all, end all of learning Tarot, but they can help you quickly access your intuition and develop your skills as a reader. Keywords serve as a starting place, designed to give you a simplified way to approach the Tarot. And the great news is, the more you practice and the more you learn, the more you open up to new ways of interpreting the cards.

Brigit:You’re listening to the Biddy Tarot podcast and this is episode 135, “22 Acts of Magic with Nancy Antenucci.”
Intro:Welcome to the Biddy Tarot Podcast, where you’ll learn how to connect more deeply with your intuition and live an empowered and enlightened life with the tarot cards as your guide. Listen as Brigit and her guests share their very best tips and strategies to help you read tarot with confidence. And now, here’s your host, Brigit Esselmont.
Brigit:Hello and welcome back to the Biddy Tarot Podcast. In this episode, I’m very excited to be talking to renowned tarot reader, spiritual mentor, and uber Creative Advocate, Nancy Antenucci. Nancy’s the author of the book “Psychic Tarot: Using Your Natural Psychic Abilities to Read the Cards,” and in fact, she was on the Biddy Tarot Podcast a little while ago talking about how you can bring more of your psychic ability into tarot. So make sure you check that one out. Now, Nancy’s also an active keynote speaker, creative director, reader, and performer at various conferences including the Reader’s Studio of New York, the Women and Spirituality Conference in Minnesota, and she’s also recently at the Northwest Tarot symposium.
Now today, Nancy’s going tell us more about this amazing experience that she created with a few of her beautiful tarot students. And it’s called The 22 Acts of Magic. Now, I don’t want to give it all away, but it is, this experience that she created is this amazing spiritual journey, I guess, through the 22 major arcana cards using music, art, movement, reflection, visualization, and so much more. So I think you’re gonna find this super, super juicy. Now, Nancy also talks a little bit about using more of your intuition as you learn and read the tarot cards. And we talk briefly, before we get into the sort of guts of the conversation, we talk briefly around whether it’s enough just to be tapping into your intuition or do you need to learn the traditional systems of the cards? Nancy’s got some really interesting points of view that I think you’re gonna enjoy.
Now, before we get into today’s interview, this podcast is brought to you by our very own Tarot Card Meanings Keyword Chart, which you can now download for free over at biddytarot.com/keywords. Now, if you’ve ever struggled to remember what the cards mean and you need to give your intuition a gentle nudge in the right direction, then make sure that you get this Keyword Chart. It included three or four keywords for every card, upright and reversed, and it’s the perfect compliment for you as you do your tarot readings. So you can get it over at biddytarot.com/keywords. And remember, this is about giving your intuition a little gentle nudge. It is not about just doing a whole reading based on keywords because that would be dull and boring. But Keywords can be great just for giving yourself that little bit of extra confidence. Yep, I’ve got this. Okay, I’m see the word “positivity,” right? What does that mean for me? And then your intuition will flow. So check it out. Biddytarot.com/keywords.
All right, without further ado, let me welcome on Nancy Antenucci. So welcome Nancy. It is so good to have you here back on the Biddy Tarot Podcast again. How are you doing today?
Nancy:I’m doing great. Thanks for having me again.
Brigit:Awesome. Awesome. So for those who might not have heard your first episode, which was probably actually a year, maybe even a year and a half ago-
Nancy:Yeah.
Brigit:Can you please share a little bit about you and your awesome work that you do, particularly in the space of tarot and even a little bit of that gorgeous interpretive dance that you do?
Nancy:Yes. Well, I received my first tarot deck when I was about nine. I didn’t quite know what to do with them and they didn’t come with a little white book, so there was no, I didn’t think there were any definitions or rules. I just thought you were supposed to figure out all the pictures. And my mom and I were into all kinds of things like astrology, phrenology. But when she gave me the tarot deck, she said “Now, if these work, I think I better take them.” You know? Because she was worried about me getting too … I don’t know what she was worried about, but they worked right away. I took them to school and I did a show and tell with them. And they worked right away. And so she took them, and I’m kinda glad she did, because it was before internet and everything, so there wasn’t really much information or support out there at all.
So I didn’t come back to my deck, I still have the same deck, but I didn’t come back to it until my early twenties. And it was in a place where I just really needed a lot of mental and spiritual and emotional support. And the cards came right back into my life. And they’ve kind of glued me together and they keep me glued. So I feel like I have a very different relationship with tarot in that they kind of saved me in a weird kind of way. So I do trust my relationship with them. And I don’t see the tarot itself as the divine power. I think that we’re the divine having a human experience and the cards are this beautiful telephone. Like if I just get really stuck, I just call. I know who to talk to most of the time.
Brigit:Yeah.
Nancy:So then I started teaching. I thought oh! I got all cocky with it thinking hey, these work. And I started teaching other people and realizing wait, there’s a whole system out there of traditional meanings and everything. And I thought instead of studying that, I would like to just play with others to see what we get. How far we go together. So I’ve always taught on some intuitive level. And then I went to New York and met other colleagues for the very first time after 10 or 15 years of doing it on my own. And I realized wow, there’s some things that I was doing that I thought were incredibly innovative and brilliant and there were other things that it was like wow, Nance, you are really gonna have to change this, you know? Because you are so off-base. So there’s pros and cons to working in solo. So ever since then, I’ve written a book, I’ve been teaching a lot of people. And now, I’m getting to a new place where I’m blending some of that dance and movement with tarot.
Brigit:Yeah. Awesome. I think you bring up something really interesting around whether it’s enough to just be working intuitively with the cards versus do you need to understand all of the traditions, the origins, the history, the structure, the systems, and so on behind tarot.
Nancy:Yeah.
Brigit:And I recently recorded an episode, I can’t remember if it’s gonna be playing after our interview or before, but I recorded a whole episode around this because I think it’s just a really interesting question to ask and it’s good to hear that you’ve come at it more from that intuitive place first and then you’ve layered on top the more traditional way of working with tarot. I think oftentimes, more people go the other way.
Nancy:Right. Exactly
Brigit:Most people sort of book learn and then add the intuition. Do you feel that you had an advantage, I guess, having the intuitive piece done first and then applying the traditions?
Nancy:Yep.
Brigit:How does that work for you?
Nancy:Absolutely, because I trust my initial trigger. I always trust my initial trigger. But I do tell people, like my students, it’s like to me, the tarot, each card is like a room in a house. So every experience you have with it, every definitely you ever remember about it, any sequence that just jumped at you actually becomes an energy in that room. So it’s almost like you’re putting the wallpaper in and now you have the curtains and now you have the chair. So in some ways, the more you can learn about all methods, the more you have in your room. So when you walk into that room, you can use whatever you need. I think it comes up, like whatever that layer that needs to come to you will. Because I can read intuitively the entire reading, but sometimes cards will just say “No, really. I’m the four of pentacles. You have to read me like the four of pentacles!” You know? And it’s like okay. Okay.
Brigit:Yeah. And I love that house analogy because also, it’s possible to live in a house or even like in a bedroom that just has the mattress. You don’t need to have all the trimmings.
Nancy:No.
Brigit:And sure you might not have the fullest experience of having a gorgeous bedroom, but you’ve got a mattress, you can sleep there.
Nancy:That’s right.
Brigit:And then over time, like I’m thinking the college student or the university student starts with a mattress and over time, they build up the room. They’ve got pretty pictures and stuff. And then it’s more of a fuller experience.
Nancy:Exactly.
Brigit:Same with tarot.
Nancy:Yeah!
Brigit:And same with learning about it. You sort of layer it up. But it doesn’t mean that you can’t read-
Nancy:That’s right.
Brigit:Even if you’ve just got the mattress and the floor.
Nancy:Or even nothing in the room. It’s like okay I’m in a room. And it’s like well, I gotta say something. So it’s like even just walking in. So when I wrote Psychic Tarot: How to Use Your Natural Psychic Abilities to Read the Cards, and I don’t define any cards. There’s no definitions. And in fact, I thought to myself, “Can I get through this entire lifetime without ever defining the cards for anyone else?” Like that’s a goal of mine. So I wanted to just make sure that people have a grasp, or at least, I’m sorry. At the beginning of the book, I started saying “Don’t read any other books. Don’t go on Google. Don’t look at any definitions. For a year and a day, just trust what you see with the cards.” And if I was reading the cards again, or if I was writing the book again, I would probably say “Just do what you need to do. But only look up definitions if something just keeps standing out there and it’s like you know what? I don’t think I’m getting this card.”
Brigit:Yeah.
Nancy:You know?
Brigit:That’s good advice.
Nancy:Yeah. Exactly. I would change that in my book.
Brigit:Yeah. Because I do think the book serves a purpose.
Nancy:Absolutely.
Brigit:It absolutely does. And even in my own readings, I will sometimes refer to the book, especially with the deck that I love, Lumina Tarot, just looking over here, it’s kind of next to it. Because I love Lauren’s interpretation of the cards. Even just reading the words is a soul-healing process that I needed. And I can absolutely interpret it intuitively and then I get the soul healing of the words. So it’s kind of a little bit of a balance really that you need. Yeah, neat.
Awesome. Okay, so you’ve talked a little bit to, well, you sort of planted a seed around like tarot and dance. I love that whole concept of what I would interpret as like embodiment of tarot and bringing the energy of tarot into your body and then probably through movement. So tell me just a little bit about how that works?
Nancy:Well, first of all, I’ve been trained as a dancer. So since four years old, that was actually the first and initial career was to be a famous dancer. Not even just a dancer, Brigit. A famous dancer. I had a very particular job to fulfill for my mom. But I just decided, and I love music and I love my body. My body has a wisdom that has always overridden my very clever mind. SO that’s helpful.
And the thing I love about tarot is that it is nonverbal. It is an image. Like you could define it with words or poetry or music, but I thought “What is happening? I love the physical world of it. I wanna be in it.” And so two or three years ago, I started going to a studio here in St. Paul and every Wednesday, from one to three, I just go in the studio, I lay the cards around me some way, and then I’m just trying to figure out how can I enter the cards physically without being a person in the card? You know? Like literally letting the energy of that card talk to me. And I realized, and I didn’t have many breakthroughs at all. At all.
Brigit:I was looking forward to the epiphany of the century.
Nancy:I know. But I did have one, though. I tell you, I had one that cracked everything open, which was the six of cups. So I was really pissed that day and I said “Okay, no. Something has to happen here to my muse. Make something happen here, because otherwise, I’m not gonna keep doing this.” And I had picked the six of cups and I went “Okay. I’m just gonna stand here until I see something.” And I’m not kidding you, like the set piece of six of cups started moving in. Like you could see the beautiful wall and the village in the back and the flowers in the front. And I went “Oh my god. What will I do if I actually see the two little people come in?” But it wasn’t. They’re not there. It was just the energy of the card itself like I was in its landscape.
And I’m standing there going “You know what? I don’t want to see the people.” I know this sounds really kind of weird, but I don’t care what primitive people or the early people thought about the world because they’re not where we are. They’re not dealing with Facebook and drones and bad water. And they’re not dealing with the same kind of problems. So it’s like I would spend all my time just catching them up to the hell that we’ve created. And I thought “No, yeah I don’t really need to go there.” But when I standing in that landscape, I could smell earth and the sky felt different. And it was Earth when she was younger. And I went “Whoa, wait a minute. I could use that. Like that energy is something I need to know more about.” Like I personally think fairies and all of those are just really energy of Earth that are so beautiful and tangible that they’re like magic to us, you know?
So it’s like that I could do. So that’s where I think I came up with the idea of you know, each card itself is almost a portal. Like it can not necessarily bring you right back to that landscape, but bring you to an environment where you’re going to get a very different insight or insights about being human and about why did I incarnate? And why are we here? So it cracked open just enough for me to go “Okay, I’ll stay in!”
Brigit:Yeah. Yeah. Beautiful.
Nancy:But then, the workshop came from that. The 22 magic acts. I decided “Could I do this for other people? Could I kinda open up with visualization?” Because I love doing visualizations. Could I do a visualization where people could walk into the sphere of the card but in a bigger way? Like as if we were in a tarot world. Not just that card, but the world of tarot. Like if that was a different sphere. Like if there’s heaven and hell, is there also like a tarot world? Is there a Kabbalah world?
Brigit:Yeah.
Nancy:You know? I said “Are there other systems that could open up to us if we just, as spirits, just meandered around and tried to find?”
Brigit:Yes. Actually, do you know what? I was just having a conversation with Eleanor, who created the Everyday Tarot Deck. So Eleanor and I have worked together to create this deck. And it’s just made me think. So Eleanor, just her style of artwork, she didn’t want to have eyes on the figures in the cards. And she was determined that they would not be actual people. She wanted them to be like figures, but not people. She didn’t want to have anything that would be like oh, well there’s my friend or my sister and so on. And the way that she was describing it was “I wanted it to be like tarot is this kind of realm.” It’s another realm. It’s another kind of plane. It isn’t like the real world. It is something on a whole different level. And now, hearing you also talking about this concept of a different tarot world or a different tarot realm, I think yeah, I’m just seeing that even more. So that’s exciting.
So tell me more. Like what’s this concept of the 22 portals. How does this work?
Nancy:Well, there were a couple things that went into it. First of all, the 22 acts of magic actually came from me trying to do collaborations with other people. And it just wouldn’t manifest with others. So I kind of ended up with something and I went “Hey. Does anyone mind if I use this?” Like no one minded. So I just went “All right!” So what we did with the 22 acts of magic, which is a whole weekend workshop, is I went through The Fool’s Journey from Amber [phonetic Gi-an-tee 00:17:38] or I don’t know if I’m pronouncing her name correctly. But she actually sees the Fool’s Journey as our human development. So like the fool is the soul before it comes in. But the high priestess is when you’re about three or four years old. You’re getting a lot of information in download, but you’re nonverbal. You know? So it’s like crazy. I love the way that she sees it as our human development. And then like further down, the devil is you kinda purging. Or the tower is you kinda purging the things that really don’t serve you anymore. So it’s more proactive, instead of something that happens to you.
So I did that and people were … They just laid in restorative yoga poses. We did it at a big studio and they were laying in these restorative poses. So I knew their bodies were healing while I was doing this anyhow. And I have a suspicion some of them fell asleep, but that’s okay.
Brigit:The work happens when you’re asleep. It totally does.
Nancy:Yeah, I know. I said “I will budge you if you snore, but other than that, you just go ahead and go in.” And afterwards, at the very end, you end up at the world, seeing kind of this whole life if it manifested in a way where it was fearless. Where you really did your incarnation fully. And you could see her or him in front of you. That world image of you. The dancer was kind of dancing out in the world. So it’s almost like the fool steps off the cliff, and eventually, though, you get to the world, who knows how to dance in the middle of the universe in the sky.
And people were … Our dialogue that came from that was so beautiful. Because some people were like “You know what? I don’t remember anything before I was 16 years old.” That’s kind of a flag, you know? Like wait, where was I? Or that one relationship was so painful, I just shut down and I’m not looking at anything I learned from it. So it was really helpful to kinda go wait. What if you’re just an observer to your life? What if you’re not judging it or fixing it or healing it? But you’re simply just observing it with compassion?
Brigit:Yeah.
Nancy:And so then the next day, I did little mini readings for each of them with trying to figure out which major arcana or maybe two or three of them do you most need in your life right now? What magic do you need in your life right now? And we figured it out by two things. One, we did an inventory. I wrote down all the shadow sides of the major arcana without any labels. So they didn’t know who it was. So like if you feel … Like one of them, for instance, was the hierophant. The shadow of it is overly extravagant. So yeah, if you’ve been doing this lately, mark it down. So we could tell by the shadows which major arcana are out of balance for them. So that might be a way to know which magic you need, because you’re out of wack.
Or like the fool is like depending on everybody else’s directions but your own. Like it’s just the shadow of it. So then I told them which major arcana from their kind of personal shadow list, which ones that need kind of balanced or at least looked at. But then we did little mini readings, too, to find out what are they craving? What do they desire? What do they want? You know? So if any major arcana showed up, I always paid attention. It was very random that way. Like synchronicity to find out the major arcana. But I just did this as a hindsight, Brigit, and it kind of like blew my mind how it all developed. I just had them pick one minor arcana randomly. And that’s the card that they would enter all of the travel world with. That one minor arcana.
So that night, when I started doing the visualizations, we did them in groups of seven. Like full through chariot. And we did them in sequences. So to follow the three lines of not necessarily child, adolescent, and adult. That was the night before. But this one was more what you’re learning, how you integrate it to this world, and how you overcome all old patterns and go into that spiritual level. So we kinda did it in a sequence of three lines that Rachel Pollack teaches quite beautifully. Well, several people teach that quite beautifully. When we did the minor arcana, when they were all in their restorative poses, and some people journaled. I told people “You can move if you want.” Because I had music or sound for each of the major arcana to bring you in. I wanted all of the senses stimulated.
But what we did too was make little portable alters for each major arcana. And it was, my group of people, Twin Cities Tarot Collective, all of us took different major alters and we just kinda decided they’d all be kind of small but they’d all have candles. They’d all have some little gift that could put in your full bag. You know? But more than that, it would hopefully be something beautiful that you could just meditate on. So I would do the journey. And the minor arcana is the one that brought you into the tarot world. So let’s say like that … which one’s the seven of pentacles? Is that the guy? No. The eight of pentacles is the guy working at the bench?
Brigit:Yeah.
Nancy:Yeah. So let’s just say you’re the eight of pentacles. So you’re there. And I said “Now, just listen to the sound you’re making. You’re in your room. What are you doing in there?” Now it just expands out to a whole world out there. So go out. And then the fool’s dog came and got you and then started the journey. So each one would … I put the music on for the magician. Here we go into the forest. But then, I would turn the music off and people either journaled about what they got in the journey, or they’d go up to the altar. Or they would just move around. So they had like 10 to 15 minutes for each major arcana.
Brigit:Yeah.
Nancy:I had to kind of limit it a little bit. But honestly, what I would love to do, now that we did this first one to see how it went. And they were so excited. I felt like all of us did some pioneer work with each other. That we would love to do like a Wednesday through a Sunday but have all the altars set up in a beautiful old house that you could go to any time and that we could do long things and then go away or eat together and then sleep. And then come back and just really dive in and have a long, luxurious. This was a little bit more wham, bam, thank you ma’am. You know? It kinda had to be.
But at the end, from all the messages you got, you had to come up with what one action or behavior would you commit to? And we had the person stand in the middle and all the rest of us stood in a circle. And they said out loud what they would commit to. And all of us blessed them. You know? We just blessed, said their name three times and said “May it be.” You know? So it was very powerful. I wanted it to go beyond just kind of self introspection. It’s wait. How do you bring this into the world because holy cow, the world needs us.
Brigit:That’s for sure.
Nancy:So it’s a real act of bridge to the world somehow. And for some people, it was just I need to dance everyday. Like that would actually help the world a lot more if you weren’t struggling with your dark forces.
Brigit:Yeah. Yeah. Oh my goodness, Nancy, I love how your brain works and how like the things you can create.
Nancy:Thank you!
Brigit:Absolutely magical. So good. And what I think I’m getting so excited about is I love it when we go beyond just here’s your tarot card. This is what it means.
Nancy:Right. Right.
Brigit:When we are integrating it as a system. Not even a system. I don’t even have words around it. It’s like a whole … It’s the realm thing. It’s a whole different realm.
Nancy:That’s right.
Brigit:And using it as that guidance. I was even thinking it’s kind of like … I’ve never done one, so I shouldn’t be commenting on this. But I imagine like a soul regression could be something like this.
Nancy:Absolutely.
Brigit:Where you’re almost taking your could back to the very beginning and you’re leading it on a powerful journey all the way through those major arcanas to the world where it can finally be fully expressed in its fullest version of itself.
Nancy:Absolutely. And even studying this, I learned so much by research in that the fool … Here’s a theory that I absolutely love. And I’m not sure who to ascribe it to. I’m sorry I don’t remember right now. But the fool is our soul. The magician is the code. Our unique, expressive code that needs to come through this incarnation. Only we could give this or express this certain code. And the high priestess is the memory to the source. So those three together kinda travel, I think, throughout the entire line of just this beautiful hybrid that we are as human and spirit.
Oh, but god, Brigit. This is what I wanted to tell you. At the end of the journeying, before we got to the blessing, I got directed to kind of say “Okay, now bring them back to their minor arcana scene.” But everything changed. It’s like the eight of pentacles, I was just gonna say “Okay, now you’re back into … Let’s leave the world there. Go back to that beautiful space that you began in.” But it became so evident to me that everything had changed because of the journeys that we’d been through. That I felt like the message was do you get it? This is the part that matters. Not all that highfalutin magic that you guys were in, but how you’re gonna bring it to your everyday life.
Brigit:Yes.
Nancy:And I am never gonna see the minor arcana the same after this. Like I actually think the minor arcana is what I really need to journey through more fully. You know? Like our everyday life is a journey through minor arcana. But it usually doesn’t get the kinda … I don’t know. It doesn’t get the street cred that major arcana gets.
Brigit:Yeah, yeah.
Nancy:You know? And now I’m like “Oh my god. What?” You know? And they’re like “Yeah!” So anything you got across the veil there, if you can’t really bring it into your real life, it doesn’t matter what was shown to you.
Brigit:Yes. Yeah. Yeah.
Nancy:And I went oh. I tell people that too. Like when I read for people. You can tell sometimes, some clients are … I call them hoarders. Like they’re hoarding information or they’re hoarding insights for themselves instead of like yeah, but what are you gonna do with that? Like because if you’re not gonna do anything with it except for keep gathering it, I’m telling you, that information’s just gonna fly right back behind the veils because that’s where it wants to be. It doesn’t want to be … Unless you’re integrating it, it wants to go back to where it actually can be vital and alive.
Brigit:Yep.
Nancy:Not your closet.
Brigit:Yeah. Actually, do you know what? Have you read Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert?
Nancy:Not yet! Not yet.
Brigit:Oh, please do. You’ll love it. So she has a concept in there about where … She’ll have better words around it. But basically, you can have this little idea floating around. And you might catch that idea. And you might play with it. And then you have a decision. Am I gonna do something with that idea, or am I not? And she had a story of where she had the idea for a book and she just sat with it. She didn’t really start writing it. And 10 years had gone past and then she still hadn’t done anything. And then she met another writer. And they said “Oh, I’m working on a book. It’s this kind of story.” And Elizabeth’s like “Oh, that was my story.” And then she realized that actually, because she hadn’t done anything with the idea, it had gone off and found another person who could actually bring that idea into being and fully manifest it. Which, to me, is also a bit of that magician energy as well.
Nancy:Exactly. Yeah. Neil Gaiman, who is an author, says that too. He said “A great idea will come to five of us.” So which one is gonna do it? You know? And it’s like oh. There’s some pressure.
Brigit:Yeah. And I think like it’s the same with spirituality, divine guidance and so on. Like yeah, you could go “Oh, I feel something. I feel something coming through.” But unless you’re in there taking action, bringing it into the everyday, it’s almost a waste. And even having these intense spiritual experiences, which might be a workshop or a meditation retreat, or what have you. If you just have the experience there and you don’t do anything with it, it’s like it was a moment in time. But it’s how do you extract that and then bring it into your everyday practice? Yeah, it’s neat.
Nancy:Yeah. We don’t want, especially in the kind of condition the world is in now where there is a lot of uncertainty. If nothing else, it’s just a lot of uncertainty. There’s a lot of people that we can’t. Nope. We don’t have the world that we just assumed 20 years ago. We don’t have that world right now. So how are you going to feel powered with that? How are you gonna make sure that love is the power, not fear? How can you stay? So divination cannot be a lovely distraction right now. We can’t afford to be distracted, you know? Because there’s so much creativity and love that wants to flow through us if we weren’t so scared. So how do you get not so scared? And it’s like well, you play, you write, you create art, you make beautiful things. You face the things in you you don’t wanna face. But you do it in a way where you feel safe and supported and transform it. You know, I just think god. I love tarot. I just feel like it is the blueprint of being a good human, you know?
Brigit:Yes. Yes.
Nancy:It’s the blueprint.
Brigit:Isn’t it amazing?
Nancy:It is! It is. And I know some people really learn and get as much juice out of Kabbalah. But I just, I need the stories of tarot. The stories of tarot. And I need all 78 of them, you know, that each one of them is kind of an aspect for me. In the realm of learning how to be a great human, religion doesn’t do for me what tarot does.
Brigit:Yeah, absolutely. And I think where it is really powerful is when it is fully integrated. So it’s not just the little quick tarot reading because you wanted to check out your cards and see what they have to say. It’s how do you integrate this universal wisdom into, again, into the everyday life. Like just, I can’t stop saying it. And like you were saying, divination’s not a distraction. I think we should quote card that one, but it can’t be that distraction. Because the implication of that is that it is a separate thing and you just do that on the side and that’s your little frivolous fun thing that you can do. And now, let’s go down with the real world. But I don’t think that’s how things operate.
Nancy:That’s right.
Brigit:I think in this beautiful place that we know exists and it exists now, it’s where it is fully integrated.
Nancy:Yeah.
Brigit:And it’s happening at the same time that we’re having our real world experience. It’s a divine, real world experience.
Nancy:Right. And I was just in Portland at the Northwest Tarot Conference. And for the banquet show, I just had people at different tables pull a card for each position of the Celtic cross and do a reading for the world for the year. You know? Like we as diviners even, how can we as a group give? There’s an old saying: “If you wanna travel fast, go alone. But if you want to travel further, go with a group.” You know? And I thought how can we get a reading that would give … So I had everyone, I just asked for 10 movers. And I just said “Here. You’re just gonna do a gesture.” And I helped them do a gesture for each of the cards that were picked. And then I just put music on and each one started their movement. And they looked like a little German clock. You know those little people that come out and go boop boop! Boop boop! And I just went oh my god, I don’t want any words with tarot. I just want movement with tarot. I just want another nonverbal expression of it.
Brigit:Yeah. I love it. So the workshop that you ran just sounds absolutely magical, pun intended, of course. But how could someone take, like what’s one thing someone could do at home to kind of capture the essence of what you created in the workshop?
Nancy:Oh, well I think the first thing that comes to my mind is to look at all of your major arcana. Just meditate, maybe make a big circle around you as you’re sitting. And you’re looking at each one of them and how they bring their magic to you. Take out all the ones that you absolutely love and adore and desire and know and they know you and you’re all like chummy together. Like take them out. Then who do you have left. And then look through them and kind of find the one that you just don’t want. You don’t want them, you don’t like them, maybe you don’t even know them. You know, it’s like ew, I don’t even know what this is about. Or the one that disturbs you the most.
And then create a beautiful altar. Like do some readings. Research them. What is the history of this card? How do different people look at it? What is that in my life right now? And create a beautiful little altar for it. And just every day, kind of try to see the beauty in it. What is the lesson or the mirror that you could … how could you be reflected by that power? Because chances are, if it disturbs you, I think it’s a power within you that you’re afraid to manifest or bring into the world. So it’s like hey, we need to get fully powered. All of us. Anyone who’s doing this kind of work. We gotta be, like I really believe there’s no bench-sitting anymore. Like you’re either playing ball or just go find some other sphere. Because we need you to play game, you know? You gotta be on your top, there. So that beauty and that altar creating might be a way for you to do that in a sacred way, but also, every day, you see it.
Brigit:Yeah. Ugh, man. Nancy, you light me up. I love this. It’s so good. It’s beautiful. So dare I ask, what have you got coming up? What are you working on?
Nancy:Well, besides my ascension that’s happening next weekend … No, it is actually. Because I’m turning 60. And I decided, I didn’t know, all my other plans fell through. Figure that. So I just thought what do I actually need to do? And I’m gonna do a dance. Like I asked my son to compose music for me. I’m gonna go into a studio. I’m gonna have some friends film it so that we can put it on Facebook or whatever. But I’m asking friends to come either as angels or devils. I don’t care. And they’re just gonna stand in the background or do weird poses or walk around. You know? So I wanna start my 60 with a dance of I’m dancing with my devils and angels now.
And then I go to Detroit and I’m teaching the six principles of divination that I have kind of outlined in my book. And I’m doing an Arts Crawl here in St. Paul. And I’m gonna do this new character that I’m calling Madam Zella. And she’s like a tarot witch. So like she has a tarot booth, but she comes out and the chair in front of the person who pays for that, or rings my bell, really … I’m gonna come out, have them pull one card, and then put some cool music on and just dance around them and put this tarot spell, you know give them the tarot magic of that card. And I have no idea what that’s gonna turn out like. But I’m already so excited about it. Because I’m gonna be using The Cure and just really cool music.
I’m just gonna have fun with that and just … because I want to blow people’s minds about tarot. I’m tired of people just sitting there just being passive with their magic. And it’s like no children! Wake up! You’re as magical as me, as the next the next one. You know? Like I said we gotta get the fire up.
Brigit:Yeah. I love the way your brain works. So creative.
Nancy:Thank you, Brigit.
Brigit:So exciting. Awesome. So Nancy, where can people find out more about you?
Nancy:I think my website’s probably the best. It’s www.betweenworlds.us. US. And it has my contact information there and stuff.
Brigit:And do you also post information about your events on your website?
Nancy:I will eventually. Yeah I still have to get my calendar in there, but I will soon. Yeah.
Brigit:Do it. Do it because that is the stuff. That’s how you’re getting the impact out there.
Nancy:Yes! Thank you.
Brigit:Taking action and all of that.
Nancy:I’m taking note right now.
Brigit:Good.
Nancy:Put in calendar! Yes.
Brigit:Awesome. And I’m sure by the time this podcast gets published, because we record a fair bit ahead of time, that will be already up and running and that you’ll be able to see all the events.
Nancy:Yes.
Brigit:Yes.
Nancy:That would be great.
Brigit:Because I’m sure like … The work that you’re doing with tarot is just so inspirational, visionary, creative, beautiful. And I know so many people would benefit from having that kind of experience with you. So please make sure it’s out there.
Nancy:Thank you.
Brigit:And readily available.
Nancy:Thank you. Thank you, Brigit. That is cool. And I gotta figure out a way to do this kind of online. Because of people that, I want anyone, wherever they are, to be able to kind of be the tarot magician they are. So it’s like I’ve gotta figure out a way to translate this online. But right now, I just feel like I just figured out some stuff in the lab.
Brigit:Oh, that’s exciting. I can’t wait to see what comes next.
Nancy:Oh, thank you.
Brigit:So thank you so much for today and yeah, take care.
Nancy:Oh, thank you so much for having me.
Brigit:My pleasure.
So there you have it. I hope you enjoyed that conversation with Nancy and I. I tell you what, I was lit up after that conversation. Just blows my mind how creative Nancy is and also just the huge possibility and opportunity with tarot and how deep it can take us. But just like Nancy said, we need to be compelled to action. If we’re just using this as a fun experience, it’s only taking it so far. And I really do believe like Nancy does that it is time to step up. It is time to take action from an intuitive and inspired place. So I hope there is at least one thing that you can take away from today’s conversation.
Now as a reminder, make sure you also download your free Tarot Card Meanings Keyword Chart over at biddytarot.com/keywords. This is a great resource, particularly if you are on the newer side to tarot and need a little bit of extra support every now and then to jog your memory or, even better, to gently nudge your intuition. So check it out. Biddytarot.com/keywords.
Now next week, we are going to be talking a lot about intuition. And just like we started to touch on in this interview, I go into a lot more depth about is intuition enough to make you a good tarot reader, or do you need to have a really strong understanding of the systems and the traditions, the origins of tarot? So we’re gonna explore that topic next time.
For now, take care and I look forward to chatting with you soon. Bye for now.

Lessons from the Major Arcana Tarot Cards
The Major Arcana Tarot cards are a very powerful source of spiritual wisdom and insight. Representing life lessons, karmic influence and the big archetypal themes influencing within each of our individual journeys, these 22 cards are truly deep and complex. By getting to know them even better, we can unlock new pathways and understand ourselves and our own human consciousness on an entirely new level. (Told you they were deep!)
With such strong archetypes at play, it’s natural that most of us tend to gravitate towards a particular two or three of the Major Arcana cards. But it’s important to remember that we can learn something from each of them and that they are in fact, all characters in the one story, where The Fool plays the starring role (known as The Fool’s Journey).
By examining each of the 22 Major Arcana cards, we can not only discover new keys for living a life of enlightenment, but also, tips for connecting with the Tarot itself! And of course, we begin with The Fool.
Lessons from the Major Arcana
The Fool
Tarot opens us up to new journeys of self-discovery. Sometimes, taking the first step is the hardest part. But The Fool allows you to reach a place of renewal and embracing new beginnings. Just like the Fool, the Tarot allows us to tap into our unlimited potential. Whether you’re setting goals or kindling a new creativity, the cards are more than ready to start the journey with you.
The Magician
The Tarot supports us in manifesting our big goals and dreams. The first step is often the hardest, but it’s still just the beginning. Fortunately, like the Magician, the cards can help you to take action and focus your energy. The Tarot will show you that you already have everything you need to make your dreams come true.
High Priestess
The Tarot connects us to our intuition. A favorite Major Arcana card for many, the High Priestess represents divine knowledge and wisdom. Similarly, the Tarot serves as the perfect tool to help you tap into your higher self. This can be a challenge for everyone and lead to feelings of self-doubt. However, the cards are always ready for you to connect to and trust your inner voice.
The Empress
The Tarot creates. This is often seen with the Empress, who is all about embracing your creative expression. Many of us are hesitant to let this side of us show, because it may result in criticism or perceived failure. However, the Tarot is here to help you open your heart to your creativity and follow where it goes.
The Emperor
The Tarot structures our spiritual knowledge within the 78 Tarot cards. Reading Tarot is an opportunity for you to take what you’ve already learned and apply it to any obstacles you may face. With their guidance and your existing know-how, you’re ready for anything. Like the Emperor, the cards can also bring you security and comfort during difficult times.
Hierophant
The Tarot is our teacher. Although we often have the answers within us, the cards are always here to help us brush up. The Hierophant is keen to share his knowledge and encourage the pursuit of knowledge. The cards remind us that we are always learning, both from ourselves and others.
The Lovers
The Tarot aligns us to our best selves and the Universe. While the Lovers are often associated with partnership in romance, it can also be cause for introspection. Like this Major Arcana card, the Tarot helps us develop a personal belief system. Through readings, we can become clearer about our values. The Lovers help us to stay true to ourselves and be as authentic as possible, which connects us to the world around us.
The Chariot
The Tarot acts as a roadmap. We all struggle to find the right path to the things we want, whether it’s a healthy relationship, job promotion, or new house. But with a little navigation advice, the Tarot can show you the way. Think of the cards as spiritual GPS. Once you have the route laid out before you, you’ll find it easy to tap into the Chariot’s will-power and determination.
Strength
The Tarot gives us strength and courage. This card represents inner strength and the ability of the human spirit to overcome and difficulty. With determination, the cards can help you find the strength you need to make the right choices for a happy, healthy, and successful life. Using the Tarot cards, you’ll discover the strength growing within you and learn how to cultivate it.
Hermit
The Tarot reminds us that we already have the answers – we simply need to go within. Sometimes, focusing on ourselves can be quite challenging. But with the Tarot, you’re able to step away from the affairs of others to focus deeply on your own principals, motivations, and values. As with the Hermit, the cards give us the opportunity to be introspective in order to better understand ourselves and our world. What better way to do that than with meditation?
Wheel of FortuneThe future is not set in stone with the Tarot. Contrary to popular belief, the cards cannot determine your future. However, much like the Wheel of Fortune, they teach us to take action to create the future we want. Any reading you do for yourself will tell you that standing still and accepting what life hands you is not the best course of action when faced with adversity.
Justice
The Tarot connects us to the source of truth. While answers are almost always within us, sometimes the cards need to make it very clear. Like the Justice card, the Tarot shows us the truth within ourselves and others. Through readings, we can better prepare ourselves to see and speak our truths.
Hanged Man
The Tarot offers an alternative perspective we may have been missing. We can be so set in our ways, that we fail to consider that there may be an easier and better choice or action. The cards illuminate different possibilities and viewpoints that you might not otherwise have considered. If you’re feeling stuck like the Hanged Man, a reading may be just what you need.
Death
The Tarot supports our transformation. Change is scary and can feel very uncertain, but the cards are here to support us in each new chapter of our lives. Like the Death card, the Tarot teaches us how to let go of limiting factors in order to create a happy future. While we may want to stay stuck in lingering thoughts of the past, Tarot allows us to open the door to the future.
Temperance
The Tarot integrates. Finding balance is without a doubt one of the biggest challenges in life. We always have so much on our plates between relationships, work, goals, and our emotions. It can be hard to know how to give everything the attention in deserves. With the Tarot cards, you’re able to find the inner peace that will enable you to find patience and moderation in your day-to-day life. Find balance through the Major Arcana with my Soul Meditations.
Devil
The Tarot highlights our dependencies. Much like the Devil card, the Tarot presents a mirror that shows us the parts of ourselves that we don’t want to see. Our fears, addictions, and bad impulses that we’d rather not acknowledge can come to the foreground in a reading. But happily, the cards show us how we can break free from the chains that are often self-imposed.

Tower
The Tarot reveals all and shatters limiting beliefs. As with the aftermath of the Tower card, the Tarot helps us to grow stronger and wiser, allowing us to develop a totally new perspective on life. Although there will always be upheavals in life, the cards are here to help us find an opportunity for growth in even the worst situations.
The Star The Tarot offers hope and faith in the Universe. This favorite Major Arcana card pushes us to love ourselves and believe. Even when things start to look good in life, it can be hard to truly believe that it’s all possible. The Tarot shows us that the Universe is here to protect us and help us materialize the calm energy and mental stability we all need.
The Moon The Tarot connects us to our subconscious mind through its rich symbolism. As with the Moon card, the Tarot teaches us to release our mental blocks and negative ideas to open up to our inner light and intuition. To help us, the cards provide us with brilliant imagery and symbols that help us work through the fog of an issue to reveal the solution.
The Sun The Tarot shines the light of consciousness on our shadow selves. The cards remind us that things can and will get better. In fact, the Tarot shows us that things can become great. Like the Sun, it teaches us embrace our destiny with all of our hearts, which will lead us to wellness, enthusiasm, and positivity.
Judgement The Tarot enlightens. Sometimes when you least expect it, the cards help you have a break through on something you’ve been reflecting upon for some time. Suddenly, the Tarot provides you with a deep understanding of your life. Just like the Judgement card, the cards are here to awaken us to a new realisation.
The World
The Tarot is whole. Just like you, the cards are in it for the long haul. Throughout your entire journey, the Tarot is here to support you all the way to fulfilment. Like the World, the cards celebrate all of your achievements and life cycles. At the same time they are with you during the hard times as well.
That brings us to the end of our list of what the Major Arcana can teach us about Tarot. I hope that this has given you a more intimate understanding of how the cards are all connected.

3 Simple Steps to Kick-Start Your Tarot Business
Woo! You’re fired up and ready to start reading Tarot professionally. But where do you start? And when are you really ready to flip the ‘Open’ sign on your Tarot business?
If you’re about to start your Tarot business but you’re feeling like a deer in headlights, startled by what’s ahead of you, breathe a sigh of relief! Starting up your Tarot business doesn’t have to be hard or complicated. In fact, the sooner you can get started, the better because there’s a whole lotta potential right out in front of you, just waiting for you to say ‘yes’ to!
3 Simple Steps to Kick-Start Your Tarot Business
So get ready to take action as I share with you 3 simple steps to kick-start your Tarot business. Yes, you can be up and running in no time. Just get yourself out there and do it!
Step #1: Get Clear on What You’re Offering
Have at least 2 or 3 different Tarot readings that you can offer your clients.
The easiest way is to determine your Tarot reading offers is to organise your readings according to the time invested (e.g. a 30 minute Tarot reading and a 60 minute Tarot reading), the number of Tarot cards drawn (e.g. 4-7 cards or 8-12 cards) or the number of questions asked (although keep in mind, how will you define what constitutes just 1 question?).
Or you might want to have different readings for different topics or spreads such as a relationship reading or a career direction spread.
But why not take it a step further and consider what you’re really offering here.
What Value do You Bring?
What value do you offer your clients when they have a Tarot reading with you? What changes do you inspire? What kinds of transformation do you support? What’s truly different in your clients’ lives after they have invested time, energy and money with you?
Once you’re clear on what value you’re truly offering, then create your Tarot reading packages around those outcomes. For example, you might support your clients in connecting with their soul purpose so you create a “Connect with Your Soul Purpose Reading”. Or you might support clients through major life transitions so you create a “Smooth Transitions Reading”.
Step #2: Set Your Prices and Have a Way to Collect Payment
So you know what Tarot readings you’re offering to your clients. Now you need to set your prices and have a way to collect payment.
Pricing is a delicate balance of many different elements from the value you deliver to your clients, to your personal income goals and even to self-worth and self-confidence.
Set Your Price Points
The best place to start is by choosing 3 or 4 different price points for each type of reading. Then, bring yourself into a deeply relaxed state, connecting with your Higher Self and your heart chakra. In your mind’s eye, call out each price and see how this resonates with your heart. Go with the price that feels the best. Then commit to it and believe in it. You’ll know after a month or two of charging that particular price whether it’s resonating or not, and you can easily make adjustments later down the track. Don’t let it be something that gets in the way of you starting.
Set Up Payment
You’ll also need to make sure you’re ready to collect payment.
If you’re starting your Tarot business online, then the easiest way is to sign up for a PayPal account. That way, your clients can pay you via credit card or PayPal with a single click.
If you’re running a local Tarot business, then you can accept payment at the time of the reading but better yet, I recommend pre-payment at the time of booking (again, use PayPal).
Step #3: Find Your Platform
Awesome – you know what you’re offering and you’re ready to collect payment for your services. You’re one step away from being open for business!
Now you’ve got to find your platform. That is, how are you going to reach your potential clients and make a real difference in the world?
Create Your Own Website
If you’re starting your Tarot business online, there are a number of options available. I strongly believe the best place to set up your online Tarot business is with your own website, on your own domain. It’s easily done – get yourself a website host (e.g. GoDaddy or Bluehost), a domain (usually through your host), install WordPress (again, you can usually do this with one click through your host), choose a theme (there are many free ones on WordPress) and voila, you’re done!
What to Avoid
Avoid third party websites such as WordPress.com or Blogger. Why? Because you’re on their terms and not your own. And what if they decided tomorrow to shut up shop or ban Tarot readers from using their services (just like eBay did)? Eeks.
Other Online Marketing
You could also create a Page on Facebook so you can quickly start offering Tarot readings. But again, Facebook is a third party provider so you lose control over your business. Best to treat this as a short-term strategy while you get your website up and running.
Etsy
Etsy is another option especially as you can start offering your readings directly on your page. However, there are so many people selling Tarot readings at low prices that it’s likely you’ll find charging higher prices a lot more challenging.
In Person Tarot Business
If you’re starting your Tarot business locally, you can set up shop at your home (be mindful of your personal security and privacy), by offering a home visit service (again, be mindful of your safety and travel time), at a new age shop (and pay a commission or rent to the owner) or in a local café, bar or hairdresser (with permission from the owner, of course!!).
And You’re Open!
As soon as you have your Tarot reading offers, prices and platform, you’re ready to go. Flip that sign over and you’re open for business!
Of course, you’ll then want to focus on extending your reach and connecting with as many potential clients as possible. Start with my 78 strategies to market your Tarot business right here.

All right so, lets get into today’s podcast episode which is the eight ways to clear and cleanse your Tarot cards. Now, I know I just said, the eight ways, really, you can clear and cleanse your cards however you want. But I tell you what, this is a question that I get asked so many times like, how do I clean and clear my cards? What should I be doing?
So today is about giving you a couple of different ideas to help just reconnect, really, with your deck and re-energize it and re-align that energy that you have and that connection that you have with your deck.
Now of course, if you feel called to clear and cleanse your deck in your own very special way, you go for it, that’s the idea so, treat these as ideas for you today.
All right so, I want to just start with a bit of a story and this is what happened for me, oh gosh, it’s probably about 15 years ago now and, I often talk about this experience as kind of my initiation into reading for people face-to-face and, it was an initiation by fire. So, I crazily signed myself up to read at the Melbourne Mind, Body, Spirit festival. Now this is one of the largest spiritual festivals in all of Australia like, literally tens of thousands of people flock into the city to find out more about all sorts of spirituality in mind, body, spirit.
And they have this beautiful readers room, like literally about 60 psychic readers all lined up in these rows, like three or four long, long rows and, you do readings for pretty much three days straight, eight hours at a time like, one after the other, like half hour readings. And I thought, hey, I’m going to learn how to do this so, I signed myself up and I found myself in that psychic reader room as a reader.
Now, as you can imagine, having not just 60 other readers around you but also having back-to-back clients, one after the other like, in an eight hour shift you’re looking at probably 15 or 16 different clients in that time so, that was when energy and cleansing my cards became so important because I’d have this very intimate connection with someone in their Tarot reading and then I knew that within a minute, after they stood up and left, there was someone else coming. And, I also had all of that crazy psychic energy that’s going around in that room from all of these other readers.
Now, in that situation, my cleansing was literally just closing my eyes, taking a big deep breath, kind of grounding myself through my feet and then giving my cards a quick shuffle and that was it. So, the reason I talk about that is because, it is, like cleansing doesn’t have to be a really long and convoluted process, it can be as quick as just shuffling.
Now, consider another situation that I was in recently where I’ve been gifted a deck, almost slipped there, so, I’ve been gifted a deck and, I loved it, I loved it when I first opened it, I loved the imagery. I started using it over and over mostly for personal readings, I used it for some client readings, really, really enjoyed it but, as time went on, I felt myself just reaching for my other decks instead of this particular deck and, getting inspired by new decks that were coming my way and just kind of forgetting this beautiful deck.
And, I started to think, oh man, I’d really like to reconnect with this deck. So, I spent some time just going through those cards one-by-one and integrating it back into my daily Tarot cards and also just giving them a little bit of love like, every time I looked at them, I would really look at them, I wouldn’t just do a quick reading, I’d kind of spend some time even just looking at the backs of the cards, the sides of the cards and just appreciating the energy and the imagery of this deck.
And, that wasn’t a great process, that took quite a few months for me to get really reconnected and re-acquainted with the deck. But, having done that, it really helped me to create that new connection so, that’s a completely different way of clearing and cleansing a deck.
So, don’t think that clearing and cleansing your deck comes in only one shape or format, it could be something as quick and as simple as shuffling the cards or, it could even be a more longer process where you are re-acquainting yourself with the cards.
So, that’s what I’m going to be talking about today and, really getting into these eight different ways that you can clear and cleans your cards.
Now you might be thinking, okay, that’s great Brigit but, why do I need to clear and cleanse? So think about Tarot as this, Tarot is really energy and when we’re working with Tarot we’re working with energy. We’re getting kind of like this feedback, we’re looking at the cards, it’s giving us feedback and it’s stirring our own imagery, messages, intuitive feelings and so on.
So we need to have this really nice crystal clear connection between you and the Tarot cards. If you’re not feeling it, if you’re picking up a deck and just going, “Uh, really don’t like this deck” or, “Oh my gosh, this is so dark, I wanted to find out about opportunities and this deck is so dark” like, it will affect the way that you are reading so, Tarot is really energy and it’s so important we have that clear energy between you and your Tarot deck. That really does start by cleansing your Tarot deck and infusing it with all of your good vibes.
So think also about energy because it comes from all different sources. It comes from you, what you put into your cards, it comes from the cars themselves, it comes from the clients you work with, it comes from people who you talk to about Tarot and that invariably comes into your Tarot readings, anyone who touches your cards, where you store your cards. Like, there are so many different factors that influence the energy of your cards and how you connect with those cards.
So really be aware of the energetic influence on your Tarot cards and be proactive and conscious in how you choose to work with that energy. So again, you’re intuitive, you wouldn’t be listening to this if you weren’t and, you’ve really got to trust your intuition when it says, “You know what, we’re just not, this deck no, it’s not connecting, I need something different,” right?
Okay so, I want to also just talk, before we get into the actual techniques, I want to talk about when might you want to cleanse your Tarot cards. So quite a few different examples here.
So, one might be a lot of Tarot readings or a lot of client use so, that example of where I was reading at Mind, Body, Spirit, I might have that 15, like 15 clients that just makes me like almost fall off my seat thinking about it but, 15 clients in a row and I know, for some of you who are quite either part time or full time Tarot readers, that’s your everyday, your daily connection with Tarot is that you have so many different clients, so much different energy swirling around your deck so, when you do have a lot of client readings, that’s a good time to think about cleansing and making it a regular thing.
Now another time when you might want to cleanse your Tarot deck is when you’re feeling a lack of connection or you’re just sort of falling out of love with your Tarot deck. You might even be able to run your mind over the Tarot decks that you have at home and think, there’s some that’s like really collecting dust and that I can’t just get into. I’ve had those and, yeah, I’m thinking about how I can find new homes for those decks because they deserve some love. I know that there’s going to be some decks that I’m just not going to connect with and others that I’m not connecting with now but, if I was able to clear and cleanse that energy, maybe it would have a different relationship with that deck.
Lets see so you, or your Tarot cards might have been exposed to a lot of negative energy. So, for example, if you’ve done a reading for a client and it was all about doom and gloom, maybe you’ve had a series of clients that are all doom and gloom, that could be a perfect time to really cleanse out your deck and bring new energy into it.
Maybe other people have touched your cards, particularly without your permission. So you might have had some friends or family over recently and someone found their way into your bedroom or your office and just happened to pull all your cards out of your favorite deck and start looking at them. Maybe even a toddler came along with their sticky fingers, you’re like, “No that’s not the idea.” So that can be a perfect time to cleanse.
Now, sometimes your Tarot readings might become confusing or unclear. That can also be a time to clear and cleanse your deck. Now, of course, if you just have one confusing reading, fine, that’s probably the reading but, if you’re finding that repeatedly you’re just not getting a connection to the message in that reading, try clearing and cleansing your deck, you may find that you have a different result as a result of doing that. Oh dear.
So another one might be, maybe your cards have fallen on the floor or had some kind of accident. Maybe they’ve tipped over in your car and you just want to get them back into their beautiful aligned energy again. Maybe you haven’t used your Tarot cards for a while and you want to reconnect with those cards. Maybe you’ve just bought a new Tarot deck or even a pre-owned Tarot deck, remember energy comes from so many places so, particularly if you have a secondhand deck, you want to kind of clear that other person’s, the previous owner’s energy and you want to infuse your own energy into that deck instead.
You might even have had like a really big transformation, a personal transformation and now you want to put new energy into your cards, a bit like a spring clean, I suppose. If you’ve had a soul spring clean, spring clean for your soul and you might want to have a spring clean for your Tarot cars at the same time.
Maybe it’s a full moon and you want to take advantage of the full moons energy or, you know what, it might just feel like the right time for a cleanse and so you do. So look there’s so many different times when clearing and cleansing your Tarot decks are a good idea.
All right so, let’s get into these eight ways to clear and cleanse your Tarot deck and again, remember that there is no one right way. You choose the techniques that work for you and also be reminded that in some cases it may make sense to do one technique and in other cases it makes sense to do another one. Choose what fits for you.
All right so, in number one is just simply, shuffle your cards. Like literally pick them up, shuffle them. If you read reversals, I like to turn them around like 180 degrees so you can get some new reversals in there. You might even want to do big messy pile, a much bigger shuffle than you night normally do or even sorting your cards into different piles and then putting them back together again. So, shuffling your cards is a great technique for in between readings when you don’t have much time and you really just want to shake that energy out of the deck and, it’s great for a quick cleanse.
Now, at the same time of shuffling your cards, you can also close your eyes, take in a deep breath and say an affirmation like, “I release any negative energy held within this deck and, I replace it with love and light.” And you can even also knock or tap your Tarot deck. So, I know quite a few readers just simply do three little taps on their Tarot decks in between readings and it’s a great way of just clearing out that energy really, really quickly.
So that’s the first option is to shuffle your cards, give them a little tap, say a bit of an affirmation at the same time.
Okay so, let’s move on to number two and that is to meditate or visualize with your cards. So, hold your cards in both hands and close your eyes and just relax then, allow your mind to be free of any thought and just be with your cards. Just be really conscious of even the weight of the cards in your hands, the feeling, the sort of edges of those cards so, be aware of that physical connection with the cards and, as you’re just being with your cards, you might also get a sense of the energy from those cards. What are the cards trying to tell you? What do they need more of? What do they need less of? Where are they in this sort of energetic place right now and, what are they asking of you?
So just be aware of your connection with the Tarot deck. Now, you might also like to take a step to visualize all of that universal energy being drawn through you and down into your cards, surrounding your cards in a protective white light. So, this is one of my personal favorites because, it is really easy to do in between readings, no-one really has to know that you’re doing it, just closing your eyes, bringing all that beautiful white light and yummy-ness into your deck and, it also just helps you focus when it comes to your next client reading because you’ve channeled this beautiful energy through you so, at the same time that you’re clearing and cleansing your cards, you’re clearing and cleansing you which is pretty neat.
So great if you’ve got a new deck, maybe you’ve fallen out of love with a Tarot deck or, you’re starting to feel a bit of bad juju around your Tarot deck. Just doing this connecting in, feeling the energy and infusing your deck with universal white light can be really helpful.
Now, if you have an understanding of Reiki, then you might also like to bring some Reiki energy into you and into those cards so, that’s a bit of a little extra step there for you.
All right, lets move now into the third way to clear and cleanse your cards. Now, I call this loving up on your cards and, this is what I was doing with the deck that I had started to fall out of love with so, literally just grab your deck and, place, like, even just go through the deck card by card, look at each of the cards and just appreciate them for their beauty, for their intuitive energy, for just what they have to offer you. Just one-by-one, really love up on your cards. You may start to notice aspects of those cards that you haven’t noticed before. Maybe if it’s a deck where you’re like, “Uh, this is so dark, I’m not into it,” you start to look at it and you realize, “Well actually, there is some lightness here, there is something beautiful in this deck.”
So, this can also be a really good way for channeling love into your deck and, again, infusing it, not just with that universal white light but, also your pure love and pure intention as well. So, love up on your deck. Okay?
Now number four is to do a full moon bath. So the full moon is an excellent source of energy for your cards as it is for crystals and all sorts of things. For you, particularly if you’re a women, the full moon energy can be absolutely amazing. So when it is a full moon then simply place your Tarot cards on a window or if you’re really brave pop them outside, maybe place a heavy crystal on top so they don’t blow away and, just let them bathe in that moonlight overnight.
So this is really good for just general cleansing of your deck. Something that you might do regularly every full moon and, again, just fill up your cards with all that good juju.
Now, some people might also use the full moon like for ritual. I love doing a full moon Tarot spirit at full moon, of course and, I think incorporating the full moon, the moonlight into that and also clearing and cleansing your cards at the same time is great. I think you’re just doing everything wonderfully when you do that. And, yeah, you can just use that full moon energy just to clear out any old stuck stuff and fill it with all that beautiful, divine intuitive energy that we have from the moon.
Okay, number five is to do a herbal smoke cleansing so, you might want to burn some dried sage or some rosemary or even use a store bought herb bundle and, simply pass the cards through the smoke several times and just, again, it’s just a gentle smoking of the cards and using something like sage has such cleansing properties to it. So allowing that smoke just to drift over the cards. Of course, please be careful of not getting things on fire, it’s just getting the smoke around the cards, no flame.
So this is great for, again, general cleansing and removing any sort of bad or stuck energy that you might be feeling around your cards. And you can also cleanse your Tarot reading area at the same time. So, I love doing two or three things at once so, why not also cleanse your Tarot reading area too.
All right so, the sixth way of clearing and cleansing your cards is to do like a crystal cleansing. So when you are in between readings, instead of just stashing your Tarot deck in a drawer, place a crystal on top of your deck and, this crystal can really help to draw out any negative energy, bad vibes in between your readings and then also replace it with really yummy energy.
So, some good crystals are celestite and, that’s a really purifying crystal that you can use and it really brings that instant peace and harmony into your mind while it’s refreshing the spirit and uplifting your mood. Selenite wands are great or even just a selenite tower which I really love and, they’re great for sort of cutting chords. I often use like a selenite wand when I’m cutting just energy chords that have got stuck between me and someone else or something so, I’m waving that little selenite wand everywhere and, you can do the same with your cards. You can wave the wand around your cards and also place it on top of your deck.
If you do feel a bit of yuck energy in the cards, smoky quartz can be great or, black tourmaline, that helps to draw out those negative energies. And then, of course, if you want to infuse energy like good juju into your deck, I mean I love amethyst probably because it’s purple and fluorite because it’s purple and teal and so is Biddy Tarot but, you could use any of your favorite crystals that have the kind of energy that you want to put back into your deck.
Clear quartz is also a great option because it’s just pure white light that you’re putting into your deck so that can be really, really neat.
Now, the crystal cleanings, great for in between readings and, again, for any bad juju that you might have or just to keep your decks looking pretty because crystals are so pretty so you might just have a crystal on your deck so it looks nice.
Okay so, you can also place the crystal that you are using with your deck, you can also place it under the table where you read and, it actually can infuse that whole reading with the kind of energy that you most desire. So, for example, if you’re doing a love reading, then bring in the rose quartz and, it will just bring a beautiful energy into that reading.
Okay, we’ve got two more left and, the seventh way is visualization. Now, I love the power of visualization, visualization can really help you manifest the things that you want to create and it goes the same with your Tarot deck. So, if you’re getting a sense of bad energy in your Tarot deck, you can visualize your Tarot deck surrounded by white light and actually just radiating positive, abundant, amazing energy.
You can also visualize yourself doing a Tarot reading with yourself or a client depending on how you normally do your readings and, in that visualization, you imagine yourself giving the most crystal clear insights from your cards and, even just that visualization of crystal clear insight, will help to manifest that as an outcome and it’s a clearing and a cleansing in itself because it’s removing all of that bad juju and bad, like, negative energy and allowing you to just jump in there and create the readings that you most want to create.
So definitely use visualization and, in fact, its something that I share with a lot of my students to really boost confidence and intuition before a reading. Like, picture yourself with your client and picture yourself giving the best reading you’ve ever done, something where you’re getting like beautiful downloads from the universe, you’re able to communicate effectively, the client is open to you, you can see this beautiful channel of energy between you and the client. There’s so many good things that you can visualize that will also help in that clearing and cleansing process.
All rights so, lets move onto our final technique for clearing and cleansing your cards and that is an elemental clearing. Now, elemental clearing, it brings your awareness to using different techniques that are aligned with the four elements of the Tarot. So, you know that the four elements are, water, fire, air and earth and so, you might think, well how an I get a little bit of water, fire, earth and air and integrate it into a cleaning ritual?
So, perhaps there’s some special water maybe from a nearby river that you really like to visit or, the ocean and, you know, water and cardboard don’t really go so well but, maybe it’s just a little dab of water on your cards. And then, from the earth, maybe it is that you actually find some dirt or, you might find something that you found on the ground, a leaf, a twig, whatever it might be and, you might infuse, again, your cards with that earth energy using that symbol that you found from the earth.
Remember earth is very much about the grounding. Water is very much about infusing it with emotional clarity and then, you might have something with air. Now air, you know, you could, really simply, just wave your cards through the air. Have the intention that you’re infusing it with air energy. You might blow on your cards. You might just simply be outside, there’s such a difference between sitting inside and sitting outside because outside you actually feel the air moving around on your skin. I don’t know if you’ve noticed this recently but, that’s something that’s been in my awareness a lot lately is, I love being outside because I can feel the air moving around on my skin and it just brings in that air energy. And then finally, fire. Okay, we’re not going to burn our cards because that would be awful but, what we can do is, we can light a candle and integrate the energy of fire into our cards. So have a play with that, bringing those four elements into your deck using the energy of those four elements and using some kind of tangible, real symbol of the elements in a cleansing ritual.
All right so, there you have it. You now have eight different ways you can clear and cleanse your cards. So, you’ll never, ever run out of options. And I really do encourage you to stay in connection and communication with your Tarot deck because, it will let you know when things aren’t quite right and, even just sit with your deck and go, right, what is my energy around this deck? Maybe it’s all good, which is fine, you don’t need to clear and cleanse but, you might pick up a deck and go, “Oh, I really want to work with this deck but it’s not feeling right.” So now you have those different ways to clear and cleanse your cards.
And again, it doesn’t have to be a really complicated process, it’s exactly what you want it to be. The most important thing is that you are setting the intention of clearing, influencing your cards.
All right so, that is it for today now, for all the details about today’s podcast episode, make sure you head on over to biddytarot.com and you can access the show notes and the transcript there. And remember to access the free Tarot cards meaning keyword chart over at biddytarot.com/keywords.

Do Tarot Cards Tell the Future?
Have you ever heard someone say, “I’m too scared to have my cards read. Tarot cards tell the future! They might tell me something I don’t want to know, like something bad is going to happen!”
I sure have. Maybe you’ve even thought it yourself, before you knew anything about Tarot.
Every time I hear a statement like this, it breaks my heart. It means that people who feel this way are missing out on one of the most powerful tools available to us as intuitive beings – the Tarot. And instead of seeing themselves as creators of the future, they’re becoming victims of the future.
In this post, I bust the myth that Tarot tells you exactly what will happen in the future. Instead, I show you how Tarot can empower you by showing you what could happen, and how to create the outcomes you most desire.
“Tarot Cards Tells the Future!”
One of the greatest misconceptions about the Tarot is that Tarot tells the future. The cards will tell you exactly what will happen, no matter what.
For example, the cards might tell you that your long-term relationship will come to a crashing end, or a job offer will fall through at the last minute and you’ll be jobless for years to come. And worse, there’s nothing you can do about it. There’s no escaping it!
No wonder many people are frightened to have their cards read! And some even believe that if these things are seen in the cards, then they will manifest no matter what, so it’s better not to even consult the cards so that bad things will never happen.
Oh dear.
The trouble is, these kinds of beliefs assume that as a human being, you have no free will and that the future is set in stone. No matter what action you take, your fate has already been decided for you, down to the most minute detail.
Does that feel right to you? It certainly doesn’t for me.
What the Tarot Really Tells You
If the Tarot doesn’t tell you the future, then what does it tell you?
Here’s what I believe…
Tarot won’t tell you exactly what will happen – for example, what will happen in your job, the exact date you’ll meet your future husband or the first name of your first child (so please don’t ask!).
But it can predict what could happen based on your present circumstances. And it can show you what action to take now to manifest your goals in the future.
Say you want a harmonious relationship with your beloved but the Tarot cards indicate destructive arguments in the near future. You have a choice. You could give up there and then and end the relationship in anticipation of these foreseen arguments because you believe they will happen no matter what.
Or, you could say, “You know what? I hate arguments. What could I do to avoid the arguments or mini mise their negative impact?”
Draw a few more Tarot cards or do some internal work, and you’ll have your answer. Implement those strategies, and you’ll avoid the negative consequences.
Now, does it mean no arguments whatsoever? Maybe, maybe not. The important thing is that you’ve been proactive now to minimise the impact of an undesirable out come later.
Be the Creator of Your Future, Not the Victim
You get to choose – are you going to hand over your power and be a victim, believing that you have no control over the future? Or, are you going to empower yourself, accept free will and personal responsibility, and become the creator of your future?
I know which one I choose!
If you’re ready to say “Yes” to empowerment as you read the Tarot, then follow this easy steps when consulting the cards:
Decide what you DO want. What’s the most ideal outcome for the situation at hand?
Understand the present. What energies are surrounding you right now?
Predict the future based on the present. What could happen if you were to stay on your current path?
Make positive change. If you foresee a future that is not in alignment with your ideal outcome, then identify what needs to change in the ‘here and now’ to manifest your goals and dreams.
Tarot won’t create your future for you – it’s completely up to you. And isn’t that a beautiful thing!

Brigit: Hello and welcome back to the Biddy Tarot podcast. I’ve got a super fun and really soulful topic to talk with you today and it’s all about how we can connect with our core desired feelings so that we can create the future that we really want. Now, I’ve brought on my marketing manager Katie Tassone to talk more about this with us. Now, not only is she a superstar marketing manager and has such a big, positive impact inside of Biddy Tarot, Katie is also a Desire Map Facilitator and part of The Desire Map is about accessing your Core Desired Feelings. So, we were having a bit of a chat beforehand and we thought hey, why don’t we do a podcast where you share more about what happens inside of creating your Core Desired Feelings and then I’m going to riff and add in how we could integrate Tarot into it. So, that’s what you’re going to get today. It is actually a really super juicy topic and we have a lot of fun on the way and we’ve got actions, actionable steps that you can take to identify your Core Desired Feelings and start to make them real in your life, along with using Tarot to support that.
Okay, so, without further ado, what I want to do is welcome on Katie. So, welcome Katie. How are you going today?
Katie Tassone: I’m really excited.
Brigit: I’ve got to say, this is a little bit different than normal because Katie and I are here in the same room. It’s very odd. It’s all very 3D.
Katie Tassone: It is very 3D. We should be filming this.
Brigit: I know and not only that, Katie is our marketing director for Biddy Tarot and yeah, I wanted to bring you on today to talk a little bit about how we can integrate Tarot with goal setting and doing it in a way that goes beyond as what you might read in a book but getting into it like real goals with soul but first, I’d love to hear a little bit more about you and your back story and what’s brought you to this place.
Katie Tassone: Yeah. Cool. Well, thanks for having me on the podcast, I’m very excited. Besides from doing the marketing with Biddy Tarot, I’m also a Desire Map Facilitator and I’m currently training to be a yoga teacher.
Brigit: Yay!
Katie Tassone: So, I love all things to do with Tarot, spirituality and personal development. I’m a total personal development junkie and I really fell in love with The Desire Map, which, if you don’t know, is based on the best selling book by Danielle LaPorte and it really is about changing the way that we goal set. So, this conversation, I’m really excited to see how we can combine Tarot and the kind of goal setting work we do with The Desire Map because it really is about going beyond what we normally do, sort of being stuck in that regular way, that pattern, almost like the rat race without even realizing. The auto-pilot type stuff and really deepening, slowing down and connecting to what we actually want in life. So, I do a lot of that and obviously we get to have fun together a lot with our marketing and everything we get to create with Biddy Tarot.
Brigit: Yep. Neat and we were just talking before about how this is integrating what you do with The Desire Map and what I like to do with Tarot and I think this is where all the magic happens, where we take these existing frameworks that exist and we layer in Tarot because it takes us to this whole different level. It takes us down into more of a subconscious level that we might not be aware of and it also helps more of the solidification of what we’re seeing throughout the process. So, with that in mind, we’re free flowing here. We’re going to see where it takes us. Tell me a little bit about, very high level, The Desire Map process and how do you get to that place where you’re so clear about what it is that you want to create?
Katie Tassone: Yeah. So, the main tenet, the main backbone of The Desire Map is really one question, which is, “how do I want to feel?” And I think it’s a question we don’t tend to ask ourselves very often, even if we’re having a conversation with somebody else, then we say, “how are you feeling?” Often times, we don’t even want to know the answer. It’s sort of an awkward, standard question we ask in passing to look polite but when you do stop and say, “how do I want to feel?” – especially in difficult situations – I find that’s when it’s the most powerful; when the feelings stuck or you’re feeling confused or feeling like we’re up against it. Instead of being frustrated with that situation, instead of being limited by our choices, if we stop and we say, “how do I want to feel?” it opens everything back up and it gives us our control back again. So, that’s the backbone I believe of The Desire Map process, really just connecting with, “how do I want to feel?” So, ignoring the Jones’s and the things everybody else is constantly doing and getting caught up in that routine and just stopping and connecting.
Well, how do I want to feel? What do I want in this situation? What do I really desire? If I’m being honest, if I slow down, if I listen, then we can build from that. And the work that I do through this process – through The Desire Map – is really about removing layers just to get back to ourselves because we have the truth inside. It’s like what we teach with Biddy Tarot, if you can stop and you can listen to your intuition, you already have all the answers. You already know what you need to do and so, it’s a very similar process with The Desire Map. We’re just peeling the layers back so you can get to the point where you can hear yourself and then you can build goals from that. You can build a life around that but it’s really getting comfortable with just asking that question, “how do I want to feel?”
Brigit: I think so often we end up being, in some way, the victim of our feelings. So, if I think of the last few weeks, we’ve had a very busy time but when do we not have a busy time at Biddy HQ? But I’ve been running around like a chook with my head cut off because I’m in the mode of stressed and I’m so busy but I’ve had those moments of clarity where I go, “Hang on a sec. I’m only stressed because I’m telling myself I’m stressed and if I just stop for a moment and I think about well, what is it that I really want to feel here? I actually just want to feel really in flow and at pace and just bringing that into my conscious awareness, it just shifts my whole energy in that moment and so, imagine if you’re doing that, not just for a moment in time but you often do this for year long plans, right? Well, you’re entire life. Choosing those feelings.
Katie Tassone: Yeah, I love it, especially the example you just gave because nothing changed in your situation. Nothing changed at all. The stresses that are happening, the busyness that’s happening, the goings on in life are still totally happening in that moment but all of a sudden everything feels different because you, like you said, shifted your consciousness and so, I’ve got goosebumps thinking about it but it is. It’s just such a refreshing concept to think I don’t have control over everything but you better believe I have control how I feel in this moment and if you want to really get that, then yeah, you can create the life that you want and-
Brigit: Yeah. So, is it as easy as asking yourself, “how do I want to feel?”
Katie Tassone: Yes and no. It is absolutely that easy but because we are so conditioned to just get caught up in everything else, it’s all that unconscious stuff. There’s just layers. Layers and layers. So, in short, yeah, it is that simple but we have to stop and take stock of where we are get really connected again first and that’s a practice. It’s like reading Tarot, it’s like yoga. It’s something that you literally have to practice continuously so that it’s a part of who you are, otherwise the other stuff just clouds yoor judgment or just clouds everything.
Brigit: Yeah and I’ve got to tell you, I’m itching to get my cards. I should have had them closer to me. One sec. So, I can see a huge opportunity here where our conscious minds will say “right, I think this is how I want to feel and that’s great.” I think that’s about 50 percent of the way and then can we access our subconscious or our intuition to get to “well, what is it I actually really want to feel?” Because I think sometimes we go, “you know what? I want to feel loved,” and you might think, “well, that’s a nice feeling. Surely, I can have that,” but really, what is it about feeling loved? What’s the actual feeling that you want to feel that you can control and create versus what your brain or your ego or your mind might want to think that you want?
Katie Tassone: Yeah and loved or anything that has an -ed at the end of it, it can often times feel like something we want and something we’re trying to manifest but realistically, it still often times pointed towards somebody else. I want to feel loved by my partner. I want to feel loved within my community and we’re sort of giving away that control once again in that emotion. It could be a little bit different in that you could say … there are two different ways you can do it. You can drop the -ed at the end of it and you can say, “I want to feel love.” That’s a different energy. Where can I see it? Where can I feel it? Where can I receive it from? The other way you can look at it is, “I want to feel loved,” and the emphasis then becomes on maybe it’s around me, maybe it’s everywhere, maybe it’s even being given to me but maybe I’m not receiving it, maybe I’m not noticing it. Then we get to take that control back again because then it becomes I want to feel it. I know it’s there but I’m not feeling it right now. So, how can I feel it? And we take back control again.
Brigit: Yeah. Beautiful. All right. I’ve got these cards in my hot little hands. The way that I’m seeing it is, just simply to draw a card and use it to connect with your subconscious and help to bring that into your conscious awareness. Now, is the card, the word is going to give you the feeling of it? No, unless we’ve got strength or something here, no. So, I just started shuffling and I’ve got the Two of Cups. God, I love Tarot. Here we are talking about being loved and feeling loved and here we are with the Two of Cups. So, actually, this is a neat example because it’s almost like a confirmation that what you’ve got in your conscious mind is reflective of also what’s in your subconscious. So, in this case, that would be beautiful for a confirmation that okay, I feel like it’s I want to be loved and this is a confirmation. Let’s just try another card as an example. What have we got? It’s the Queen of Cups.
Katie Tassone: All those emotions flowing, lovely.
Brigit: That’s it! Yeah. So, this could just be another sign of the flow of emotion and what I love most about the Queen of Cups is she can give and receive love and she does it so unconditionally and this just beautiful present in here and you might start to think about well, all right, what’s this telling me about the feelings that I want to create? It doesn’t necessarily, a Tarot card wouldn’t dictate, right, you must be feeling flow in emotion. No. It’s more intended here as a prompt, I suppose, to help you go deeper and help you explore what’s already in you rather than looking at this external source of this is what you must feel.
Katie Tassone: Yes! I love that and so, one of the other ways we would do it in the workshop style is we might look at when have you experienced love before? What’s your fondest memory of feeling loved? And what was your part in that? Because that’s that concept of the flow of love requires a giver and a receiver and what was your role in that? How were you showing up? How were you receiving that love? What was the other person like? What did it look like? You can go into all those sorts of depth and so, I love that this is what’s come up to with the cards is because it’s the same thing. It’s looking at the Two of Cups and that partnership and that give and receiving and then the beautiful Queen of Cups, who’s in flow with love, understanding that, once again, that give, receive. It’s that effortless, it’s that unconditional and they’re all energies, right? And so, it’s getting in touch with what is this really about? Like you said.
Okay. So, my conscious mind is telling me I really want to feel loved and that can feel very disconcerting to say sometimes if you’re really not feeling loved. It can feel awkward and should I even feel that way? And then by using the Tarot or doing your journaling, that’s when you get that, “Yeah, no, that’s what I want and I have had it before. This is what I feel like and I recognize it in the cards,”
Brigit: Yep. Beautiful. All right. So, we’ve established our feeling. The feeling that we want to feel. What comes next? What’s step two?
Katie Tassone: So, the next step would actually be, usually it would be looking at full spectrum of your life and where is it showing up and where is it not? And really just doing an audit. Having a good overview because sometimes we can ignore an area of our life, especially when we’re talking about goal setting and that concept. We might have our favorite areas, which might not even be out favorite but it seems to be the one we spend all our energy on. So, it might be career. Just focused on career and all the goals happening in career or it could be family and things might not be going all right or they could be going all right but for some reason, all the energy just keeps getting put into family. So, in this next step, a really good thing to do is look at the whole spectrum of your life. Really get a good overview of it and then start to look at well, where am I feeling loved? Where am I not? Or where are things working and where they’re not and really getting that concept of the gratitude for what is working and really sinking into that feeling and then looking at what’s not working with an open heart, without any judgment. Like an audit. Just really reviewing it to start with.
Brigit: And again, I think this is where you would work with it from a conscious perspective. So, you’d probably write this down or journal it and then if there are any gaps or blind spots or any area where you’re like, “I’m not really sure where I’m feeling loved in my career.” How does that work? That’s probably where the Tarot could come into it too just to high light any of those blind spots that might be in play.
Katie Tassone: Yeah, definitely because the thing is, especially when it comes to love (and I love that that’s the example we’re talking about) is that as human beings, we’re interacting with other people all the time and sometimes we consider love as being something that’s only between our most intimate relationships but what if it was possible for you to feel love in your workplace? What if it was possible for you to feel love in your general community? Really looking at it as being just a feeling that we have. An emotion that’s possible that we could experience in our every day life, in all areas of every day life. If you’re lucky enough to work with somebody who you really get along with really well and you get to have that experience, you get to feel loved, appreciated, your showing up, you’re really contributing to the world. That feeling becomes so much more expansive and it’s not then something that’s just solely for your partner at home or your kids or your family.
Brigit: Yeah. Well, let’s just do a practice run. Let’s say I was feeling stuck on what does love look like in my career and I’m drawing a card. It’s the High Priestess. So, this might be a sign that love comes through, okay. So, with the High Priestess, I’m actually feeling into more of the subtleties, that subtle energy that happens through the High Priestess and love may not be as apparent on the surface but it’s all happening at a more energetic level and certainly when you start to feel into your business or your job, that might be where love is appearing. So, again, it’s not a crystal clear here’s your answer, thanks very much but I see it as a way of opening up another line of questioning to go, “Right, what does that mean for me? Or is there something here that I haven’t seen while I was trying to think through my audit of feelings?”
Katie Tassone: Yeah and you’ve totally hit the nail on the head because this whole process and really everything we’re doing in life, it’s all just an experiment and you need to have curiosity and just really, “what else could be possible?” Or “what does this mean for me?” Just getting really comfortable asking questions and seeing what happens when you open yourself up to what the answers could be. That’s where we find these new aspects of ourselves. That’s where we find these new aspects and these new dimensions of the relationships we have and that’s where we find out what can be possible. So, that’s right, it’s a prompt. It’s having a set of journaling questions as a prompt to open up, especially if you’re really heady. I tend to be quite heady and so, just having a book in front of me, a blank page and somebody’s saying, “Okay, Katie, now, 20 minutes of just free flow journaling.” I will spend the first five minutes, if I’m forced to write, and I often talk about this, the first five minutes will be, “I don’t know what to write. I’m writing in my journal but nothing’s coming out,” because I’m so still in my head.
So, journal prompts, I love. A question. Okay, I can write that answer and then it starts to flow and it comes up and I really see Tarot as being exactly the same thing. It’s a prompt. Considering, “okay, I know that or I’m feeling into this emotion. This is what’s showing up for me in this card. How would that apply to me?” And just writing. It opens up a new door way.
Brigit: Yep. Neat. Okay. So, we’ve tapped into what we want to feel. We’ve done an audit. What comes next?
Katie Tassone: Yeah. So, I think then the next thing is when you really work out what it is you want to create in your life, which is where the goal setting comes in, it’s then, well, what do I need to do and who do I need to be to show up? And that’s where, straight away, I can see with Tarot, there’s just such a powerful connection there because you can really connect them with the archetypes. You can really think about who is a great example of showing up like that? What’s the energy going to feel like? Who do I need to be? And once again, we get to take back control then.
Brigit: Yep and I think this is where we kind of shift gears a little bit with Tarot. So, what I’ve been doing is shuffle, draw a card. This is now about making a conscious decision about which of all the Tarot cards do I want to most embody that will allow me to create this feeling of love? And let me rack my brain. What would I choose? And Katie, maybe you can think about what you would choose too. I’m kind of…The Empress just keeps screaming. I’m just seeing her picture. I’m going to find that card while you have to think about what would come up for you.
Katie Tassone: For loved?
Brigit: Yeah.
Katie Tassone: I tend to be drawn to Temperance a lot.
Brigit: Oh, good, because I just went past that card. So, there you go.
Katie Tassone: Yeah.
Brigit: Okay. So, this is going to be fun. I don’t think you realized I was going to put you on the spot like this but tell me, what do you see in the card? What’s connecting you to love when you look at the Temperance? And by the way, we’re looking at the Everyday Tarot. It’s a deck you absolutely must get. It’s available at everydaytarot.com and yeah, so Katie, what are you seeing in the imagery?
Katie Tassone: Well, particularly with the Everyday Tarot deck, I really see this ethereal being. So, it’s the lightness of love. It’s not being caught up in the details and being weighed down and definitely Temperance = balance. Again, it’s once again it’s that giving and receiving. It’s honoring your own boundaries and others’ and that’s where I feel the lightness really comes in. If you think about it on a scale, if you’ve got the balance on both sides, it’s almost like neither weight anything because they’re just sitting there together in perfect harmony. So, I love that because sometimes love can feel really heavy and it can feel really challenging and other times, and I think in its best version of itself, it’s just light and effortless and I love that. So, the Temperance card always… and I’m a Libran too. So, I can’t help it. It always pulls me in.
Brigit: Balance, and is there anything in the card you’re saying that’s kind of unexpected? Because I think we can consciously choose a card and then we can take our level of understanding to a new level when we find something unexpected in the card.
Katie Tassone: Well, particularly with this card, I love the fact that there are two cups that are just continuously pouring into each other and so, that just makes me think of self-love. You need to feel your own cup because you can’t gear from an empty cup. So, in this case, the two cups, one’s upside down pouring into the other but the other one’s pouring up into it as well. It’s just this continuous flow and I really love that imagery.
Brigit: So, that gives you some new information too about how that might play out. Neat. So, for me, I’ve got The Empress in front of me and the pregnancy of The Empress, I love and just how she births stuff into the world and I feel that can be a really strong expression of love in terms of what you can birth into the world and through creation there is love and yeah, love creates creation in some ways. Yeah, it’s neat. So, I’m just trying to think what’s the unexpected. Maybe the feminine element. I’m looking at her earring, it’s the symbol of the, I always forget what it’s called but it’s the female symbol. Venus, thank you. So, that’s also reminding me of the femininity of the feeling of love. So, that would probably be my little bit of extra information.
Now that we have these two cards, there’s something really fun that you can do with particularly the Majors, well any card really, and that is to create a ritual with this card. So, actually, step back first. You can take this card now and you could put it up wherever you have it everyday. So, you can see it everyday and tap into that energy but you can also create a ritual and you can free flow with the ritual. It doesn’t have to be a certain way. There’s not a book that tells you exactly what The Temperance ritual is but Katie, if you’re really connecting into that concept of the water flowing back and forward, could you even through the act of taking two cups with water and just pouring back and forth and just connecting in with the energy of that?
Katie Tassone:Yeah, I really like that. It was funny because when you talked about a ritual, I went straight to visualization. I’ll settle in and I’ll visualize something, which I think I would do as well because one again, quite heady. So, sometimes it’s difficult for me to drop into that space but with a clear visualization, I find it much easier and so, visualizing, meditating on The Temperance card, that would be really powerful but I hadn’t thought about doing it as a physical, in my actual reality. In doing that, I like that idea of moving it back and forth. It also makes me feel like a child. Used to do things like that when you were a kid, experimenting with water and textures and things and so, I think that’s nice when we’re talking about love as well as stepping back into that playful act and yeah, I like that. I’m moving my hands back and forth while talking about this. I can’t help it.
Brigit: Neat.
Katie Tassone: Yeah, I like that.
Brigit: And then if you’re holding the intention of the feeling that you want to feel as you’re observing the pouring, it’s a very simple act but it may unlock further insights for you. Just even, I head down to the beach, I look at the waves, I’m theorizing about life just looking at the waves and all this new stuff comes up just from saying something so simple but yeah, as you said, just doing a meditation with the card and even stepping into being this etheric being that you say in The Temperance card, that can be really powerful and experiencing that every day really strengthens as well and of course, you can do that with Soul Meditations, which is a series of guided visualizations with the Major Arcana, available over at biddytarot.com.
Katie Tassone: I know, it’s a fabulous plugging today in this podcast.
Brigit: I can’t help it!
Katie Tassone: It’s true though. I’ve often actually listened to Soul Meds and it’s really helped me get a better understanding of the cards and I really liked that stepping into it because I can be quite a heady thinker and so, I do need a little bit of help sometimes to stop thinking so much and to feel a bit more. I love that idea and even just that act. As we were just talking about, the act of pouring the water from one cup to the other. I just started to feel lighter. I started to feel more ethereal and it reminded me that there is a part of me already that exists that is like that and I think that’s the point, right? It’s like tapping into that aspect of ourselves. We can really feel that energy and feel how we want to show up in the world because our way of being is not fixed, yet sometimes it’s easy for us to get locked into that and to think, “I am this way or I’m abrupt or I’m this.” You know? Whatever it happens to be, but when you get to experiment with a visualization, with stepping into the card or really meditating on it or even doing that physical act, the ritual, you go, “Oh, I can be light and soft and ethereal and I remember what I feels like within.”
Brigit: I’m thinking next layer is also, it becomes an anchor. So, it’s a very simple thing. Imagine you’re cooking dinner and you’re like, “Oh, I’m so grumpy. I’ve got to cook dinner again.” And you think, “No, just getting my cups out, I’m just going to fill them with water, I’m going to pour them back and forward and that’s my anchor to bring me back to this feeling that I want to create.”
Katie Tassone: Yes! Yes! Yes! Absolutely. I love that. Everything then just comes back to I’m in control and not in a forceful, I’m in control, I’m keeping it contained, I’ve got … it’s a completely different sense of control. It’s, “Oh, no, that’s right, I get to choose because how do I want to feel?” I want to feel light. I want to feel ethereal. I want to feel balanced. Well, then, what can I do right now in this moment to feel that way? Get out my cups and just pour it back and forth and all of a sudden, you have that tool that’s available to you at any time and even if you don’t have cups and you don’t have water right then, you can close your eyes and just move your hands back and forth, which is what I’m doing once again and step back into that feeling.
Brigit: Yep. Beautiful and so, does that round out the process in terms of tapping into your Core Desired Feelings and creating that in your life?
Katie Tassone: There’s a lot more depth to it. A lot more depth. Obviously, you can read the book or you can go along to a workshop. There’s a lot of Desire Map Facilitators all around the world, which is really cool and you can really get deeper into that then and really get in touch with your, what we call, Core Desired Feelings, which is, they’re almost like your magic words. Your GPS, your powerful set of feelings, of words, of imagery that you will use that can guide you and it might be, say five or say, I like to think of them as you can hold them in your hands. So, I think five’s a nice number and then basically, that’s your core guidance system but yeah, there’s a lot more layers you can go through but this is a really great starting point for really getting in touch with that and if you can feel comfortable with just asking yourself “how do I want to feel?” all day long, every day, throughout your day and especially when you sit down at the start of an important milestone in your life.
It could be the start of the year, start of the week, could be mid-week, whatever it is that you feel like you need to actually set some new goals, then start with how you want to feel first. Think about what you could be doing right now, not in six months time, not when you’ve got the perfect bank account, not when you’ve lost all the weight, not when you’ve found the perfect partner but right now, what can you be doing to feel that way? Like the cups, like the meditating. And then you can build some goals around it. Some specific goals. So, rather than saying, which is what we tend to do with our normal goal setting process as we go straight to – without even realizing it – we go straight to the thing that we’re goal setting for. I want to have a million dollars or I want to run a half marathon or I want to do this thing, I don’t even know why. Is that my goal? Or is it somebody else’s? And then it could be, once you step back and go how do I want to feel?
And it could be I want to feel freedom and your conscious brain, your unconscious, everybody’s been talking and they went, “Dude, so, to feel freedom, you’re going to need lots of money.” So, without even realizing it, you’ve gone straight to, “I need money.” Where as when you bring it back down to actually, I just want to feel freedom – so many possibilities of different things you can set up for yourself! So many different goals you can create to facilitate that. And yeah, money might be one of them but you’ve got all these other avenues. You don’t get obsessed with the one goal that you’ve created without even realizing it.
Brigit: And I think that’s a good example too because freedom and money may go together but money can also create a lack of freedom because if you’re having to work your tushy off to get that money, you’ve actually sacrificed freedom. So, if you’re holding the energy around the freedom piece versus what’s the total end outcome, the tangible outcome, holding the energy around the feeling is in much more alignment and I think you make much better decisions around that.
Katie Tassone: Yeah, absolutely and when we’re working with the Law of Attraction, when we’re trying to manifest what we want, we know the how is not up to us. It’s not. Where as, when we traditionally goal set, it tends to be, we fix it on the way we’re going to get there. We’ve already worked out the how and then we kind of get obsessed with that. And if it doesn’t work out exactly that way, there’s a level of disappointed that’s attached to it where if you just come back to how do I want to feel? Then it doesn’t matter how it happens. You’ve opened up all this possibility of anything that could happen and any way that you can get there. You’ve got control, you can co-create with the Universe, you’ve got all these options and it just feel better. It just feels better.
Brigit: Just do it.
Katie Tassone: Yeah. From one goal obsessed person to another, this is such a lighter, more effortless, more fun, more creative way to goal set is just start with, “how do I want to feel?”
Brigit: Beautiful and I think that’s a perfect place to wrap it up and I also hope it’s become apparent for those listening is how you can integrate Tarot with this kind of process and how it weaves in so beautifully and Tarot really isn’t about telling your future. It’s about creating your future and now you have one particular way of doing that. So, that’s neat. Beautiful. So, Katie, do you have a website where people can find you?
Katie Tassone: I do. You can go to www.katietassone.com and I’ve got some blog posts up there and there’s other information or you can reach out to me on social media @thekatietassone.
Brigit: Awesome and we’ll make sure that we post those links in the show notes. Thank you so much Katie. This has been fun.
Katie Tassone: That was really fun. I enjoyed it a lot and I love the depth that we can go in with Tarot. I’m excited to try out the cups. Definitely is going to become part of my practice.
Brigit: Awesome. We’ll have to post it on social.
Katie Tassone: Yeah.
Brigit: Cool. All right. Thank you.
So, there you have it, I hope you enjoyed the conversation with Katie and I as much as I did and you’re now inspired to go away with your Tarot cards and your journal and start to have a think about your own Core Desired Feelings and how you can start to embody those using Tarot as a guide as well. Very neat. Now, a couple of things I mentioned in the call. Soul Meditations. If you want to work more deeply with your Tarot cards, especially the major arcana, I highly recommend my program, Soul Meditations. For each of the Major Arcana cards, I’ve done a guided visualization, which walks you into that card and it takes you beyond what you’re thinking about the card but getting more into your subconscious connection with the energy of the card and that is where the absolute power and the magic really begin to happen. So, if you want to check out Soul Meditations, just go over to biddytarot.com/shop and you’ll find Soul Meditations on there, along with all of our other products as well.
Now, I’ll also mention the Everyday Tarot deck that we were playing with. I wish we could have an image of it while we’re talking. It’s kind of impossible when it’s through audio only but I’d love to invite you to check it out. Go to everydaytarot.com. I am launching this Tarot deck, plus the book in September 2018. So, you can pre-order your deck now and you can then receive it in September and do you know what is the really cool thing about this deck? Not only is it awesome, it looks great, it’s mini. So, it fits beautifully into your hands and into your hand bag but it’s the retail price for this is 12.95 US dollars. It’s nuts. It’s so affordable. You just can’t say no to it. Anyway, I’ll leave you with it. So, everydaytarot.com if you want to check it out there.
Now, coming up next week, I’m going to be talking about a topic that I got asked about quite a lot. It’s all about how to clear and cleanse your Tarot cards. So, I hope I will see you there. All right, bye for now.

The Confident and Intuitive Tarot Reader Spread
As an aspiring Tarot reader, do you check in every now and then with your Tarot cards to see how you can continue to grow and develop your Tarot reading skills? I know that I certainly do.
We are blessed to be able to connect with the Tarot cards, so why not use the cards to learn more about ourselves as readers? That way, we can fully blossom into confident and intuitive Tarot readers.
To help you do this, I have created the 7-card Confident and Intuitive Tarot Reader Spread. My hope is that this spread will give you guidance to your higher self.
The Confident and Intuitive Tarot Reader Spread:
1. What is coming into my conscious awareness about reading Tarot?
2. What innate gifts and talents do I have that I can share with others in my Tarot readings?
3. What aspects of myself do I need to develop to step into my full potential as a Tarot reader?
4. What aspects of my Tarot reading skills do I need to develop to step into my full potential as a Tarot reader?
5. What external resources are available to me to develop as a Tarot reader?
6. How can I connect with the right people, with whom I will create ‘magic’ as a Tarot reader?
7. What is possible for me when I am reading Tarot with confidence?
My Personal Reading with this Tarot Spread
Here’s what happened when I laid out the Tarot cards for myself…
1. What is coming into my conscious awareness about reading Tarot? – Eight of Pentacles reversed
I am learning that there is inner work to be done. I have honed my skills and abilities in reading Tarot, but with the reversal of the Eight of Pentacles, I am now being reminded to focus on my personal, spiritual path as it relates to my Tarot path.
Plus, I see this as a sign that the learning never ends! Even after reading Tarot professionally for so many years, there is always something new to see in the cards.
2. What innate gifts and talents do I have that I can share with others in my Tarot readings? – Three of Cups
My gifts and talents relate to being able to bring together groups of people to enjoy the Tarot cards and have fun. This resonates so well with me because I love teaching Tarot to groups of people across the globe. And I love to show people that learning Tarot doesn’t have to be hard or complicated – instead, it’s a lot of fun!
3. What aspects of myself do I need to develop to step into my full potential as a Tarot reader? – Six of Wands reversed
Again, a reversal here suggests that there is inner work to be done. With the Six of Wands, it relates to continuing to build confidence, particularly in the public space. As a Tarot blogger and a teacher, it often feels like the spotlight is on me and my Tarot reading techniques are open for all to see.
While I absolutely love this and am so thrilled to be able to share my knowledge with others, there are inevitably those moments of doubt when I still think, “Am I doing this right?! Everyone’s watching – I better be doing it right!”
4. What aspects of my Tarot reading skills do I need to develop to step into my full potential as a Tarot reader? – Three of Pentacles
When I look at the Three of Pentacles, I see two wise men conversing with a junior apprentice. The beautiful thing about this card is that it’s not just the wise men teaching the apprentice but the apprentice teaching the wise men. So for me, I see this as the flow between student and teacher and the deeper knowingness that I continually develop my personal Tarot reading skills as I teach others. It’s a total treat!
5. What external resources are available to me to develop as a Tarot reader? – Two of Cups
There may be opportunities to partner with another Tarot teacher (or perhaps even a numerology, astrology, or intuitive development teacher) and share this with the Biddy Tarot Community.
Recently, I partnered with the beautiful Kari Samuels for a webinar about blending numerology and Tarot, and I had so much fun. I learned a lot about numerology (Kari shared some unique ways of working with the numbers) and it meant I could reach a new community of gorgeous souls interested in Tarot. I would love to do more of that! (Universe, do you hear me?)
6. How can I connect with the right people, with whom I will create ‘magic’ as a Tarot reader? – World reversed
Originally, when I included this question in the Confident and Intuitive Tarot Reader spread, my intention was that this would be about attracting the right clients or people to read for.
For me personally, as the Founder of Biddy Tarot, I see this question relating to attracting the right community and the right partners (e.g. other teachers, bloggers and leaders in the field). With the reversed World, I feel that there is still a piece of the puzzle missing.
I’m so close to bringing it all together in a completely holistic way, but there’s just one step to go or one more lesson to be learned here. Plus, again, the reversal is a sign of more inner work that needs to be done, in order to feel a sense of ‘wholeness’ as it relates to my Tarot practice. Ah yes, that definitely resonates!
7. What is possible for me when I am reading Tarot with confidence? – Strength
What a beautiful way to end the Tarot reading! The Strength card shows me that when I am reading Tarot with confidence, I am feeding my inner strength and my inner power. The woman and the lion in the card reflects the ability to tame the lion within through a peaceful and calm approach. Certainly, when I pick up the Tarot cards, feeling a little frazzled or flustered, I am soon brought back to a place of peace.
I also know that I am helping so many people when I am reading and teaching Tarot and that’s a true blessing. It feels as if I am stepping into my power, but at the same time, helping others step into their power. Gorgeous!
Time to Create Your Own Magic
If you’re struggling to connect with the right people, with whom you can create magic, consider joining the Biddy Tarot Community. It’s a modern learning community for people who want to improve their Tarot card reading skills and connect more deeply to their intuition in their day-to-day lives. The Biddy Tarot Community is also a wonderful place to reach out to other Tarot readers just like you. You’ll get support, community and nurturing to deepen your connection with your intuition using Tarot!

Listen as Brigit and her guests share their very best tips and strategies to help you read Tarot with confidence. Now, here is your host, Brigit Esselmont.
INTRODUCTION
BRIGIT: Hello, and welcome back to the Biddy Tarot Podcast. As always, I’m excited to talk with you about Tarot!
Today, we’re dipping into the Biddy Tarot Podcast archives, and I’ve found an episode that speaks to those folks who are starting to think about:
How do I take Tarot out to a bigger audience?
How do I go from just reading for myself or maybe some close friends to starting to read for people who I may not know, or maybe they’re friends of friends?
Or even to that point at which I’m going to start reading for payment as a professional Tarot reader?”
So, today’s podcast episode is 3 ways to connect with your ideal tarot reading client. This doesn’t mean that you have to be asking for payment to get value out of today’s session. It doesn’t. This is very much about helping you connect with:
What’s your value as a Tarot reader?
What’s your style?
And who do you do your best work with?
Regardless of whether you’re taking payment for readings or if you’re just thinking about how to start doing Tarot for other people, then listen to this episode because it’s going to really help you along in your journey.
LET’S CELEBRATE!
Now, before we get into it, I want to celebrate a couple of five-star reviews that have been left on iTunes, which as always, I truly, truly appreciate.
The first one is from Christine Alice, who is also here in Australia. In fact, she says:
“Loving this podcast—and it’s Australian! I have only just come to wanting to read Tarot cards. I’ve always been fascinated, but I wondered if it was for me. Each podcast is packed full of really useful information, and I’m so enjoying finding out about all aspects of Tarot. Thanks, Brigit! I’m up to podcast 25, so I have lots more to work my way through over the Christmas break. So many podcasts that I listen to are from America, so I love that this one is local.”
Thank you so much.
Now, I know Christine just mentioned the Christmas break. This is a review that Christine left a few months ago now, actually. We typically record quite far in advance, so sometimes we match that up with our reviews.
So, without further ado, I want to get this podcast episode kicked off, so let’s get into it!
3 WAYS TO CONNECT WITH YOUR IDEAL TAROT CLIENT
Let’s say you’re a Tarot reader, and you’d love to read Tarot for everyone, right? Well, that’s great, but I do have one question for you…
How exactly are you going to reach everyone?
You see, it takes time, it takes money, and it takes energy to find just one Tarot reading client, let alone everyone.
And more importantly, do you really want to read Tarot for everyone?
I mean, do you really want to read Tarot for that lady who says she’s interested in a reading, but she doesn’t actually believe in all that airy-fairy mumbo-jumbo?
Or that young guy who just wants to know if he’s going to hook up over the weekend?
Uh-uh. I didn’t think so.
That’s why knowing your ideal Tarot reading client is so important.
It saves you time, money and energy finding clients, and it ensures that you’re working with the right client and not just any client, doing your absolute best work within your zone of genius.
So, how do you figure out who your ideal client really is?
Well, that’s what we’re talking about today, and I’m going to share with you 3 ways that you can connect with your ideal Tarot reading client.
Now, if you’re listening to this and going, “Brigit, I don’t have clients! I’m not a professional Tarot reader just yet!” I actually recommend going and listening to this episode as well, because it’s not just for paying clients that this is important but even just friends and family.
Having an idea of who your ideal client is and how you can best serve them will help you decide when it’s a good idea to read for somebody and when it’s not.
I mean, I’m sure you’ve probably had a friend where you’ve gone, “Oh, I just don’t feel like this is quite the right fit. They have different expectations.” But you go ahead and do the reading anyway, and you think, “Oh, that did not feel good.”
So, whilst I’m talking about ideal Tarot reading clients, which implies the paid clients, this can also apply to really anyone that you read Tarot with, and getting clear about who it is that you can serve the best and who you really gel with when reading Tarot.
All right, so let’s dive into these 3 ways…
#1 HAVE A CONVERSATION WITH YOUR FAVOURITE CLIENTS.
I want you to think about three clients you’ve absolutely loved working with.
Maybe they’re super loyal clients who have been seeking Tarot readings with you for years. Or maybe they’re clients who totally energise you when you’re working with them. Maybe they’re even your highest-value clients, like the people who have spent the most money with you.
Select those three dream clients right now, and write down why you picked them.
What makes them so amazing to work with?
What do you know about their demographics, like their age, gender, occupation, where they live and so on?
What do you know about their beliefs or their values and their mindsets?
Are there some common elements and themes across these three superstar clients?
Really get into who they are as people, their stories and those common threads between all three.
Now, here comes the fun bit…
What I also want you to do is set up a time to have a 15- or 30-minute conversation with each of these three clients. You might chat with them over a coffee or a glass of wine if they’re in your local area, or maybe you just jump on Skype or the phone with them. Maybe you could offer them a quick reading as a way of saying “thank you.”
Now, the whole idea of this conversation is to get to know your ideal client. Really find out:
What are their hopes and dreams?
What are their biggest challenges in their lives?
Why did they choose to work with you and not somebody else?
How can you continue to support them?
You really want to open up this conversation and, again, just get to know them. Get to find out what makes them tick. Where does Tarot come into their life? How are they using Tarot to help support them to make good decisions or navigate their challenges or manifest their dreams and so on?
When you’re having these conversations, make sure you take lots and lots of notes. Or better yet, ask for permission to record the conversation. That way, you’re going to start to build up a really rich profile of your ideal client. You’ll get an idea of their demographics but also how they think, what their biggest problems are and how you can best serve them.
For bonus points, you can probably also discover what their leverage points are for having a reading with you.
What’s that decision that happens that says, “I need to go and have a reading with this person?”
Maybe you can ask one of your clients, “Do you remember the last reading that we had? What was it that made you go, ‘Yep, I’ve got to have this reading?’” What was that thing just before they clicked the “Buy Now” button or picked up the phone to have a reading with you?
That’s an awesome leverage point that you can then use with future prospective clients as well.
And, you know, the best thing out of all of this is if these are really your dream clients, they’re going to just love having this opportunity to chat with you outside of a formal Tarot reading. I think they’re going to really appreciate that you care about them and you want to get to know them more. Think of it also as a way of building up that loyalty and creating connections with your clients.
Now, of course, don’t treat it as a one-off! Do this every 6 months, every 12 months, or whatever it might be, just to stay connected with “Who is this person that you do really great work with?” and “How can you continue supporting them?”
Here’s the second way for connecting with your ideal Tarot reading clients.
#2 RUN A SURVEY WITH YOUR TRIBE.
If you’ve got a larger tribe and you want to understand the common themes amongst this group quickly and easily, then a survey can be a great way to do it.
For example, you might have a couple of hundred people on your email list—or even better, a couple of thousand. I know where you’re starting, and a couple hundred is a good place to start. Or you might even have a couple of hundred people on your Facebook page.
Whatever it might be, as long as you’ve got a good group of people who support you and love your work and are gathering around you, it’s great to reach out to them and ask for their ideas and their thoughts.
Here’s exactly what you can do…
You can create a survey and use something like Google Surveys. It’s really simple to use, and it’s free, and you get all of the data that’s really easy to download.
Then ask your community a series of questions about themselves, similar to what you might ask if you’re having a one-on-one conversation, but with some more quantitative responses.
For example, it might be: “What keeps you up at night?”
Then you could have a checkbox for relationships, work, finance, personal development, or whatever it might be. Choose a few things, and then they can select them.
You can also have a few general free-text questions, like “In what situations do you turn to the Tarot cards for insight? Or if we’re on the phone together, what would be the number-one question you would ask me?”
Or maybe even “What is that thing that would help you decide that you want to have a reading? When you last had a reading, how did you know you needed that reading?” can be very interesting.
You might also want to get into some of those demographic questions as well like “What impact does Tarot have in your life?” Just really get into understanding who they are and how they see the world.
Now, if you’ve already got an idea of your ideal client types, you can actually ask your tribe to self-select which type they most identify with.
For example, at Biddy Tarot, we have three main categories:
Tarot beginners
Aspiring readers who are actively reading Tarot and learning
And then we have professional Tarot readers
When we’re doing surveys, we’re often asking folks to self-select into one of those three categories. That way, we can then split up the results and understand:
What’s special about our Tarot beginners? What’s really on their mind?
What’s special about our Tarot professionals, for example?
So, do that with your audience, if you’ve got a good idea of your different audience segments, and you’ll get some even more rich data that you can then work with and use to attract the right people into your space.
Now, let’s move on to our final way to connected with your ideal Tarot reading clients. This is perhaps a little bit more out there, but I know you guys. I know that this will just be like, “Oh, yeah, that’s easy and fun.”
Here it is…
#3 CONNECT ENERGETICALLY WITH YOUR IDEAL CLIENT.
This one is very powerful and works incredibly well for Tarot readers in particular, thanks to our honed intuition.
Here’s what you can do…
Just close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and a take a moment to notice how relaxed and at peace you feel.
Now imagine a time when you were working in your zone of genius with a client. Perhaps you were doing a Tarot reading or even teaching Tarot or something completely different, that time when you felt like, “Wow, I’m giving so much value here, and maybe this is really changing this person’s life.”
Just picture that time. Take note of what makes this situation really special and unique. What are you creating with the client? What’s happening here? What energy do you feel?
Just breathe in that scene as you’re doing this reading perhaps for your favourite client. Just see what’s happening.
Then think about:
What do you know about this person?
Who are they?
How old are they?
What do they do for work?
Are they wealthy, or do they just have enough to get by?
What else do you know about them?
Now think about that specific person you were working with. Look into their eyes and feel your heart connect deeply with their heart. Connect with their energy and their inner essence.
What do they believe about the world?
What’s important to them?
What are their goals and their aspirations?
What do they struggle with?
What do they fear?
Why do they come to you?
How can you best help and support them?
What makes them different to every other person you’ve worked with?
Wonderful. Now just say thank you to this person for sharing their energy with you, and when you’re ready, you can open your eyes.
Now, of course, I’ve gone a little bit fast through that one, but you might want to do it in your own time and, really, just take time to truly experience what it feels like to have that ideal client sitting across from you, and to take in that scene, but also to take in their energy and connect with them energetically and intuitively.
There might not be a specific real person, but there’s someone in front of you as you’re sitting there, reading the Tarot cards and feeling amazing about it. Just drink it in and just see what comes to you, particularly on an intuitive level.
Remember, you’re a highly intuitive person, so I know that you can do this.
Write down everything that you’ve learned about your ideal client during this visualisation. Think about what new information has come to you. If you’ve done the first and the second way, you’ve certainly looked at things at a more rational level, and that’s good, but this is your opportunity to get more into the intuitive space and to dive deep into your subconscious and see what comes up that way. This is often where the most powerful insights come.
I actually lead the Grow Your Tarot Business Online students through this meditation, and it’s just amazing to see what new information that they get from it. Even that act of visualising your ideal client sitting there, right in front of you, can be incredibly powerful. You’re creating the space for that to really come into fruition and become real for you.
OK, I’ve gone through the 3 ways, and to recap, those are:
Have a conversation with your favourite clients.
Run a survey with your tribe.
Connect energetically with your ideal client.
WHAT NEXT?
Now you know who your ideal client is. Now what do you do?
Well, it’s time to integrate that new knowledge into your website, your marketing materials, your blog posts, your newsletter, your social media updates and so on. Really speak to the heart of your ideal client through your various platforms and engage with them on an authentic level.
Go where your ideal clients hang out, and really be useful, because you already now know what they need and where you can step in and support them.
So, go out and be really, really useful, and make strategic choices about where you spend your time and who you choose to connect with. If you know that you can help women going through relationship struggles, don’t go and spend your time over in a Facebook group that’s full of young men who are interested in cars or what have you.
Think about “How am I going to spend my time in those places where my ideal clients are?”
And at the end of the day, if you’re trying to reach everyone, I want you to remember that you’ll end up engaging with no one. But if you reach out to the people who value your services and with whom you do your best work, that’s how you’ll create magic.
