First Post
After reading thousands of romance novels, I decided to write one. I tried to write one for the first time in high school. I had very little success. I tried again my freshman year of college. I had only marginally more success. Then I took ten years off for field research. *wink wink I heard about NaNoWriMo a few years ago. I always thought I would try it, but November is an extremely inconvenient month to try to write a novel. After this year’s NaNoWriMo, I found my attempts from high school and college. Surprisingly they weren’t that bad.
So I decided to try again, and this time- Success! I have a full length contemporary romance novel. I had a celebratory dinner, after I called literally everyone I know, and then I found out that writing is not the hard work. Apparently on the road to self publishing there is a whole new world of work that comes after the writing.
With e readers self publishing has become incredibly easy to do, and yet it is so incredibly difficult to do well. I found an editor who told me to publicize. It’s hard to publicize a book that exists but also doesn’t exist. I have done hours and hours of research, mostly at my desk during my boring day job. I am learning. Any tips you have to offer would be greatly appreciated.
I do have a manuscript. I do have an editor. I don’t have a cover. The book is not available on Kindle yet. Since this is my first time I don’t know when it will be on kindle. The editor said that my almost book should be on goodreads. So I put it up : https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22443870-ball-in-hand?from_search=true
There isn’t much to see other than the blurb:
When Sam Middleton catches her classy boyfriend in the throes of a supremely unclassy affair, she retreats to the comfort of a dingy bar that reminds her of home. There, a much younger man entices her to play a game of pool.
He needs a roommate. She needs a place to stay. One thing leads to another and Sam finds herself moving into an apartment building full of college boys. Sam is not easily enticed by the bevy of young studs, but the ambient testosterone causes Sam to reevaluate her position and thrust herself back into the dating pool-table that is.
Dating is much more fun now that she is older, wiser, and the ball is in her hand-so to speak.
I hope that piqued your interest! As the process unfolds I will record the ins and outs of this self publishing journey here. Since I only have one book so far and self publishing is turning out to be a slow process I also plan to review some of the things I am reading. If you’ve read this far I just want to say thank you! I appreciate your attention. Any criticism you have to offer, constructive or otherwise, will be appreciated as well!
