Book Deal!

MysticCover_noTitles

Mystic

I’m delighted to announce that I’ve signed my first-ever book contract.

The amazing folks at Tor Books offered me a 3-book deal to acquire my entire Mystic Trilogy. Melissa Frain–whose editing work I’ve admired since before I ever spoke to her–will edit the books.

Every author’s road tobeing published is different. My story is unusual, but certainly not as wild as many that are out there. Over the last 12-15years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with Tor, mostly related to TheWheel of Time se...

Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser trailer

ForceAwakens8

The first teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens is here! Here’s the link to see it on YouTube, and here are some thoughts on what they show us:

Who’s narrating theteaser trailer? The voice is clearly intended tone ominous, andmy first thought was that it was a Sith or other bad guy, possibly voiced by Andy Serkis, or Benedict Cumberbatch–who has been rumored to be a part of the movie. 15 Tips for a Better Kickstarter Campaign

Kickstarter Success Chart

kickstarter logoIn 2013 I successfully raised $18,664 throughKickstarter in order to complete my short film, Spectre. I learned a lot in the process, and I’ve been wanting to pass onwhat I could.

This advice is going to be most applicable for small-to-moderately-sized campaigns. Although much of the advice below is relevant to any size campaign, some of it won’t apply if you’re trying to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars or more. Six-figure campaigns are an entirely different beast, of which I have no ex...

Tomb Raider

2013-04-04_00004

Several months ago I playedTomb Raider, the 2013 reboot of the popular video game franchise. I’ve been a long time fan of the series, having played the very first one back in 1996. My experience with the franchise began whenI was a freshman in college. There was this guy who lived across from me in the residence halls. He was dead broke and desperate for cash. So he sold me his Tomb Raider CD-ROM for $10. I didn’texpect the game to be so enjoyable, but itcaptured me right away.

In the years si...

My Star Wars social experiment

Sith Boys

I recently conducted a social experiment with my two sons.

My older son (code name Red) is 8 years old and my younger son (Dewy) is 5. Both have a strong interest in Star Wars. About a years ago, I showed Red the original trilogy (the latest version of the Extended / Special editions to be exact). He enjoyed them as any 6 or 7 year old kid would.

Then, earlier this month, I showed the newer prequel trilogy to both kids. By doing it this way, Red got to see the films in the order I watched them...
