WHERE ARE WE GOING?
Currently this question weighs heavily on the collective consciousness of humanity. We feel battered and uncertain given the direction our world is headed. Considering the triple whammy we face from a pandemic, global warming, and the threats to our very political and social norms, is it not time for people to choose a new direction going forward?
Experts everywhere have stepped up to the challenge, eager to offer their own solutions, frantically waving red flags, hoisting banners, and filling social media with their warnings and predictions. This quest fills the horizon. What is to be our future?
Where are we going? Before we dive into this question, let’s back up momentarily to a question I posed in the previous blog: Why am I here? If you truly understand why you are here, the question of where you are going fades into oblivion. It no longer has any relevance.
Why is this, you ask? If you merge with Existence, you will automatically flow in the direction that Existence is flowing. And that direction is always right. Only…We hesitate, because to flow with Life seems to fly in the face of worldly realities. So, what choice shall we make? To flow with Life? Or to wrest our destiny into our own hands, to choose a path that navigates the dangers that lie ahead?
When you feel you are separate from Existence, the choice seems clearcut. What would life be without the right to choose? Let’s focus on this idea of choice first and see how it plays out. The world will tell you that success, even happiness, comes from choosing wisely. It seems self evident. Many people can look back on their lives, especially with the benefit of hindsight, and see all the mistakes they have made. And wish they had the opportunity to chose differently, to achieve a different outcome.
Like a generation of baby boomers, I lived through one of the most remarkable periods in human history: the sixties. Frankly, you would have had to be there to fully appreciate what that time meant. While it was turbulent, the sixties also embraced tremendous optimism. Rarely in a single decade has humanity grown so much collectively. Civil rights, the Summer of Love, the Cuban Missile Crisis, space travel, even the Vietnam War contributed so much to our growth as humans and the direction the consciousness would move going forward.
We were optimists and confident that the world we passed on to our children would be a brighter place, a place where human beings would be treated with dignity and allowed to bloom and grow to their fullest. This was the dream. And the expectation.
But that is the past. Now we are faced with a future that has brought new and unexpected challenges. What path forward shall we embrace? And when has a decision ever been more critical, where a false step carries consequences that will haunt our future?
One path is highly visible and ever so seductive, glittering as lights flash, as a chorus of voices echoes the promise of what lies ahead. This is the path of the Machine Age, where machines will make our lives easier, more productive, more innovative. In just a few generations machines have evolved from being tools to becoming partners. The Machine Age promises not just to make our world better, but to enhance us individually as well. We can become something greater than human. Machines will not only monitor our health, they promise to extend our life spans. And dare we say it, offer the possibility of immortality (in some yet to be determined fashion).
We have seen these possibilities reflected in movies and literature—the opportunity to evolve into a superhuman (if not outright superheroes). We can come a synthesis of the biologic and the machine. We can merge with the Machine World, to be enhanced in a limitless fashion.
How inconceivable it will be to our grandchildren that people once drove cars by making their own decisions, independent of machine input. We can certainly see the change in modern cars where autonomous driving will soon be the rule. In time, the concept of “driving” with any human input will disappear.
Meanwhile, science is pursuing avenues where the regulation of our bodies will be turned over to machines, as implants, chips, and nanobots will control functions once part of our normal cycles. The promise: Machines will to do it more precisely. Over time, humans will stop trusting themselves and rely exclusively on machines. In the process what we have known as the human consciousness will be forever changed as we shift our trust to something… artificial.
Already there are many proponents of the Machine Age among us, spokespeople who promise a utopian world if we simply turn over its functioning to machines. Machine people wish to suppress the apparent chaos of Life. They prefer to bring everything under control, to make things better, more manageable. I understand their rationale: On the surface the world will appear more orderly, more predictable. The chaos will finally be reined in. No more surprises.
Except for this one: The farther we go down this road, the more we will forget what it was like to be human. Everything will have to reflect the machine decision criteria. That will be the standard: predictable, organized, under control. You can understand why some governments and individuals champion such an outcome.
Only… Life will be completely and utterly dead. There will be no place for creativity. For love. For the unexpected. For any expression of what is ultimately human. Mother Stella has repeatedly warned us against such a future even as we rush to embrace it. While it may look like the safe bet—to place our trust in the machine—if we elevate the artificial over Life, all is lost. This is too great a price to pay.
Mother Stella once told me that if you attempt to explain how Life works, you must speak the language of the Infinite. And the language of the Infinite seems to fly in the face of conventional wisdom. People who are completely immersed in worldly conditioning will be unable to hear. Or to see. On the other hand, if you are even a little awake, there is something inside you that is capable of understanding.
The language of the Infinite… You have to be reminded of its music, its rhythms. Above all, understand this in your heart of hearts: Nothing trumps the human. Because what we call human is a reflection of the Divine. Remember: If you have forgotten who you are, in that forgetfulness you will indulge in much nonsense. It is time to wake up. The path to Wholeness, to Existence does not go through the machine. Nothing artificial can ever open that door.
You have been given a glimpse of the future these past few years should we continue down this path to the Machine Age. Let me be clear: It will destroy our humanness. While we may survive as forms, everything else that makes Life so dear will be lost. In this very moment, Life is reaching out to you with this reminder. Ask yourself this question: Are you ready to become the vast human being you were meant to be, to become a Universal Being? This is the path forward, the human path.

WHY AM I HERE?
What a beautiful moment in your life when you knowingly come face to face with this question. While it can be phrased more elegantly—“What is the reason for my existence?” or “What is God’s plan for me?”—when you pause to ask this question, it is a rare opportunity that allows you to go to the very heart of your being.
Whether this question arises out of a moment of suffering or wonder or curiosity is irrelevant. Only… Where do you begin your search? Once this question might have prompted a spiritual journey: to India, to Tibet, to a noted teacher, to a celebrated philosopher. These days you don’t have to travel far. You can simply google the question, et voilà, up pops link after link, endless possibilities to explore.
Admittedly, this search can lead you down countless winding roads which embrace a myriad of belief systems. These belief systems may grow out of religions, philosophies, science, metaphysics, or some unpredictable mishmash. Since I have talked about belief systems previously, I won’t rehash that subject in detail except to say that individual belief systems all have their own particular approaches, their own explanations.
It’s true that these explanations can provide some temporary solace. Or vindication. Even a cursory review of a number of these sites is a reminder that some mean well. They can offer encouragement or reassurance. But explanations that arise from dogma or theorems or even commandments fall short. You cannot explain the truth with words alone.
Why am I here? Let me respond with this follow up question: Who is asking? Because where you go next depends on whether this question arises from your ego or your real self. If your search is just a head trip, you will most likely settle for some answer served up by a belief system.
The world is full of teachers, therapists, experts. Again, these people can help you to be more accepting of your situation. They can encourage you to focus on the positive side of life. They will strive to make you “better adjusted.” They have a role to play in the world as we know it.
But remember, there is spark that lives inside you, a spark just waiting to burst into bloom. And when that spark inside prompts this question, you deserve something more than a pat answer, some rehearsed explanation meant to help you cope.
If that spark inside will not settle for platitudes, if you want more than to learn to cope; I invite you to take the road less traveled. Come with me on an unexpected journey where you will not simply be handed answers, but given the experience of what Life is meant to be.
Who can share this experience with you? Who can give you a taste of the divine which lives inside? Ultimately, you need to find a Great Soul, someone who has awoken to his or her true nature. Some Great Souls are widely known. Historically they include—among so many others—the Buddha, Jesus Christ, Mohammed, Lao-Tzu, Krishna, Moses, Mahavira, and Rumi. But for every recognizable name, there are many others who worked in their own way to awaken those souls who are ready. In more recent times, we have seen a resurgence of Great Souls given the danger humankind faces.
Some have stepped on the world stage; others have remained in the background. But their collective efforts are the same: to help any soul who is ready to wake up to their true nature. I have been so fortunate in this lifetime to have been into the presence of a number of Great Souls, including the beautiful soul known as Mother Stella.
Since it can be a long road to wake up to your true nature, it is critical to understand the purpose of a Great Soul. They are not here to control you, to manipulate you, to direct you for their benefit or whims. This is a real misconception. A Great Soul has only one motivation: to help you grow into the vast human being you were meant to be. They want you to be free, free of all the conditioning that has kept you trapped lifetime after lifetime. They want you to open your eyes and spread your wings, to soar high.
They want you to experience the Divine within, to realize that you are part of Existence, and then merge so deeply that the separation disappears. Some Great Souls will speak volumes; others will remain silent. Even when they speak, however, it is in the pauses, in the silence, that the truth is conveyed. They are not sharing knowledge. They are sharing their very essence with you. They share the Divine within so that it can awaken the Divine within you.
This is the reason you go to a Great Soul. This is how it has always been. And always will be. Because this transmission is direct, soul to soul. By sharing their energy, the Great Souls allow you to move from the personal self to the Universal Self, to discover for yourself. How do I know this is true? Because this has been my experience.
Why am I here?… For this reason. You begin by learning to love yourself, by discovering all the beauty inside and then bringing this love out to share with others. Great Souls place you on the path to becoming a Great Soul yourself. Finally you can be helpful. Only when you have healed yourself, can you help heal others.
This is an open secret, but an open secret that should you embrace will change your life in ways you never imagined. Just to hear this truth is a tremendous opening. Now you don’t have to be trapped.
If you are ready, a Great Soul will appear in your life. How that happens may seem to be one improbability piled upon another improbability. But it will be done with love, with the utmost compassion. You are precious to Life, because you are part of Life. Never forget this. Going forward, show love and goodwill to all human beings. When you look into their eyes, see the Divine within them, the same Divine that animates you.

TO BLOG OR NOT TO BLOG
I have asked myself on more than one occasion whether blogging is the best use of my time. Writing books can quite simply demand every waking moment of your life. Obviously—like many of us—I have learned over the course of this lifetime to juggle the various demands on my time (although admittedly, all the balls can hit the ground if I get distracted). But even before I started my first book, I stood firm: Writing would just be a part of my life. It would not be allowed to hog every moment.
Admittedly, I don’t define myself as an author. Or a musician. I resist any efforts to be locked into some space, to embrace or identify with this or that belief system. Instead, I am simply a human being on a journey. Who has discovered that Life is a never ending surprise. As to what what lies around that next bend—that’s part of the surprise.
From what I can see, bloggers are typically either tied to an area of expertise or proponents of one or more belief systems. And there are so many belief systems, endless really. These belief systems can embrace politics, religion, science, mysticism, metaphysics… And a seemingly endless world of crazy.
So … Who would choose to listen to someone who is not locked into some organized belief system? Why should you pay any attention to someone who is not rooted in some recognizable faction, who is not an acknowledged expert, who, in fact, has no interest in belief systems? Sounds more than a little risky. But if something inside you stirs, then join me for a spell as we head down this road.
Life is a danger to belief systems. And by Life I mean Life in its entirety, which embraces all of Existence. Belief systems are limited, narrow by definition. Belief systems appeal to our heads. Belief systems are meant to allow us to control and direct Life. Belief systems represent our effort to define Life, to make sense of a mystery that evades us. Only… Life is a mystery. I’ll say it again. Life is a mystery. That is its essential nature.
And you cannot know a mystery by standing on the outside, by judging and analyzing. This is what Science attempts to do. And sadly, religion too. You will never know a mystery from the outside. It doesn’t work this way. You have to become One with the mystery, to merge with the Unknown.
This is why Life is best described as a journey. It is not so much a journey in search of answers, but a journey meant to experience Life directly. Answers are borrowed. Experience is direct. Answers are changeable. Experience is real. If you want to know what it is like to bear and raise a child, who should you ask? Some medical expert (particularly a male who has not even been a father)? No, talk with a mother who has made this journey. Speak to a mother whose children have bloomed and flourished under her love and care. Then your eyes will open.
But I hear your concern, whether voiced or not. If you take away belief systems, what is left? To remove all belief systems is like removing the foundation of the world. Where is there left to stand?
Take a breath. Let it out slowly. Most people need belief systems. They have only progressed so far on this journey called Life. Belief systems serve to anchor them to a world that would be too chaotic otherwise. They aren’t ready to merge with Existence.
You must have traveled far on your path to be willing to trust Life, to be ready for this next step. If you are not ready—you are not ready. Full stop. There is no judgment involved. Everything in your life happens at its own pace, when you are ready to move on. If you feel more secure in the arms of your belief systems, that’s perfectly all right. Your growth is your growth. Your path is your path. Take the time you need. Just remember this: Life will be there for you every step of the way.
But if you are fed up with belief systems, if you want to know the truth about your existence, then it is time to gather your courage and jump. Or at least take a baby step. This is critical, however: If you are ready to move on, don’t waste your energy by attacking beliefs systems. You don’t need to tear them down. Remember what was described above: Belief systems exist for a purpose. Many people need them at some stage of their existence, just as you once did. Focus on your own growth instead.
Ah… I have answered my own question. Why should I bother to blog? It has nothing to do with me really. This is just Life reaching out to you. This is simply an expression of compassion. But is this the right forum? Well, why not? Existence can make use of every avenue.
It is no secret that I am the author of Mother Stella: Her Song of Love. I was instructed to share the song of a great soul with the world. Great souls have just one wish: to help you wake up, to embrace your true self, to discover all the beauty that lives inside. This is why you return, lifetime after lifetime: to wake up.
So… Where do we go from here? We will go in the direction of Life. We will be surprised at times, but if you are ready, know this fundamental truth: You have not been forgotten. Or abandoned. No matter how bad it seems in the world (and right now it is dreadful), all is not lost. If people can stir from their sleep, if they can embrace their true selves, if they can come face to face with Existence, everything will change.
So this is where we shall start. If you have a real question, a question that arises from your heart, let me know. I am more than willing to explore whatever you need. If I can be said to have a plan, it is to post once a week. I will be just as surprised as you as to whatever pours through me.
