For #NewInquiry’s #Abolish issue, I wrote a bit about d/Deaf experiences with the justice system: how language deprivation can function as a prison pipeline, the ways in which the system is designed to hurt them when the arrive, and how, despite strides in #prisonreform #activisim, intersectionality still can’t break the sound barrier. The #ADA has been law for 27 years now, and still people’s basic rights are violated, the government itself being a chief perpetrator. The states first response to difference is always to punish it–and that needs to change (in myriad contexts). #ableism #deaf #ASL #language #acess #mentalhealth #discrimination

(story is behind a paywall at the moment, but it’s $3 for an issue all about prison reform, so if you’re interested, it’s here: https://t.co/JuvgXUxcqZ?amp=1)
