If you are new to my books, you can dive right in and enjoy this romantic Valentine's Day adventure without having read any of the other stories.
Set in 1989, this short story is a biker romance and rock n' roll romance adventure read in one that will have you laughing, gasping, swooning, shedding a tear, and give you allllll the feeeeels.
I wrote this story from Isi's point of view which was amazing for me, as in the full length novel, The Dust and the Roar (her love story with Wreck) the point of view is all Wreck.
Isi is one of my very favorite heroines. Her sass, passion, her drive and determination, her loyalty. She and Wreck together are truly unforgettable and unstoppable. Same rebel heart, same passionate soul.
If haven't read my contemporary work yet, and you enjoy this Valentine's tale, then you can go on to Wreck & Isi's novel, "The Dust and the Roar" to get their full story, and then onto the Lock & Key series for which Dust is a prequel novel.
And by the way, this little peek into Wreck and Isi is key to my upcoming new series set in Meager. Isi and Wreck left their mark on so many in this small dusty town in the Black Hills of South Dakota, their love and lives continue to inspire and touch so many.

Set in the 70s and the 80s, The Dust and the Roar is a prequel to the series following Wreck's return to Meager, SD after his difficult service in Vietnam and the disintegration of his family. You will see how the bike club was formed, experience Wreck's struggle to keep the new club together, his life-changing love affair with local girl, Isi, and what finally reunited him and his abandoned brother Miller (the future Lock!) at long, long last.
Although a prequel this book is a full length standalone novel and can be read before or after the other L&K books. if you have already read those, so many revelations are made here and questions answered in small and big ways making it a rich reading experience.
This book led me to write a followup Valentine's Day adventure short story for Wreck and Isi, "The Fire and the Roar" and then Grace's coming of (crazy) age novella "The Year of Everything." These three books comprise the blast to the Lock & Key past "Legends of Meager" series which offer a complete experience to the lives of these characters. Yes, I'm that kind of writer! A full course meal that you can sink your teeth into and relish.
This is a story full of intense emotions and wild times, with clashes between rival bike clubs and Wreck falling hard for Isi, a feisty rock n' roll free spirit who has wounds and family crazy of her own. He is a one woman only kind of man. Fireworks, adventures, twists and secrets, and through it all, once in a lifetime soul-mate passion.
Come back with me to the 1970s and discover everything that makes this man special and how Isi's love for him forever transformed their small town, the bike club, and his own family forever.
This is not a classic romance, but it is a love story, a coming of age family saga set in a small town with romantic suspense adventure and crime elements.
Yes there's heart-twisting, but there is great transformation, so much love, and a wild ride through the 1980s. And the music..! Isi is a rock goddess, after all. These two are so special together. For me, Wreck is an American hero, and like Isi, he is all loyal heart and burning soul.
