About Shadow’s Passion:
He lived for vengeance, until he met her. Now he has to choose–revenge or love? Exiled by her people after an accidental death, Celeste’s power is so unstable the elegant Shadow healer is considered a deadly menace. Fifty years of isolation have left her a little lonely. And more than a little bored. When a nearby family falls victim to demon infection, she decides to go hunting. Without backup, it won’t be long before the demons are hunting her.
A dangerous assassin, Gabe has better things to do than save a Shadow from her own reckless behavior. Like find the demon who killed his brother. Sure, the Shadow is gorgeous, alluring, and she needs his help. But he can’t afford to get distracted. Everything changes the second he spies his brother’s killer among the demons after Celeste. Now, nothing will tear him from her side.
Gabe is dangerous and secretive. He’s also a skilled fighter and sexy as hell. Celeste knows better than to team up with a Warder, but she’s not sure she cares. It’s been a long dry spell since her exile. Neither of them expects their fling to turn into something more. But when Gabe’s past catches up with him, he learns that his brother’s murder was just the beginning. A new evil is rising, and its sights are set on Celeste. Now Gabe has to make a choice: revenge or love?
Excerpt:
Celeste poured herself a second glass of wine. Based on the amount of alcohol in her pantry, he didn’t think she drank much. A second glass of wine meant he wasn’t imagining her nerves. She waited until he finished his bowl of stew before speaking.
“I was thinking,” she said, a faint tremor in her voice. She cleared her throat. “I was thinking we should—that you could—I mean, we might—” She stopped, flushing deep pink. Drawing a breath, she continued in a rush. “I was thinking we should have sex.”
Gabe stared at her in shock. Of all the things he imagined she was trying to spit out, that wasn’t on the list. Despite her nerves and hard nipples. Had Celeste just propositioned him? Her pink cheeks deepened to red. She covered her eyes with one hand, reaching blindly for her wine glass with the other. He moved it out of reach before she knocked it over. Suddenly, it was very important that she not be under the influence.
“Sorry,” she said from behind her hand. “Sorry, that was rude. I’m not usually so—” Celeste trailed off, unable to meet his eyes.
“Don’t be sorry,” he said in a low growl. “I’m just surprised. I didn’t think you’d be interested.” Celeste dropped her hand, staring at him.
“Have you not seen yourself?” She tossed out a gesture meant to encompass him from head to feet. Again, she reached for her wine. He slid it farther away. “I’d be interested even if I wasn’t stuck on this mountain by myself. Add in how long it’s been—”
Gabe didn’t stop his smile as her flush darkened further. She’d been so in control, so calm and contained since he’d met her. Seeing her like this, awkward and uncertain, made her even more desirable.
“Clearly,” she said, “two glasses of wine is one too many for me. Its been a long time since I came on to a man. Obviously, I’ve lost my game.” Gabe laughed out loud.
“You have game?” he asked. Teasing her was becoming a habit. She straightened in her chair, holding on to offense in place of embarrassment.
“I did. Once upon a time, if I’d set my sights on you, you wouldn’t have known what hit you. Now I’m so out of practice, the best I can do is clumsy propositions. This is embarrassing.”
“Not really. I’m flattered,” he said. As adorable as she was in her uncertainty, Gabe found he wanted to set her at ease. “The truth is, a woman like you doesn’t need game. A blunt proposal works just as well. Better. It means I don’t have to wonder if I’m reading you right. I’ve been thinking about getting my hands on you all day. I wasn’t sure if you’d beat the shit out of me if I tried.” He pushed his chair back and stood. Celeste looked up at him.
“I doubt I could beat you up,” she said, anticipation rising in her voice.
“I’d rather you didn’t try,” Gabe said. He reached out one hand to her. Celeste slid her fingers into his, her heartbeat suddenly audible in the quiet room. Gabe wondered if his own heart pounded just as hard. The tingling warmth from her fingers met his skin and began to seep into him, this time setting him afire as it sank deep.

Zach’s Dock
The prologue to Shadow’s Passion opens with Zach sitting on his dock watching the marsh. In case you’ve never been to the Low Country, I thought a visual might be fun. While this isn’t the actual view from Zach’s dock, since he’s a fictional character and doesn’t own a dock, it’s close enough.
This picture was taken in mid-July at Botany Bay plantation on Edisto Island, South Carolina. If you’re interested in more information on Botany Bay Plantation Wildlife Management Area, Click Here. I had a great time poking around Botany Bay with my family this summer. It’s a beautiful resource cared for by volunteers who love the history and wildlife preserved there. If you’re in the Edisto area, it’s worth a stop.
I lived in Charleston, SC for years. While I had fun in the city, the wild places in the Low Country captured both my heart and my imagination. You can expect more action based here in future stories, as well as more location pics as the Shadow Warder series moves forward.
Shadow’s Awakening, Book One in the Shadow Warder series, will be released next month (August 2014) and we’ll revisit Zach’s dock in at least one scene. This time, he’ll have company.
