Listen to News and Me On-The-Go
After the departure of Umano, I’ve been listening to a lot of audio books. It’s been a good chance to catch up on everything I’ve been meaning to read. However I feel there is still a void where Umano used to be. Remember Umano — it was the platform where you could get your news read to you by professionals. I even read these blog posts on Umano and shared my stuff in a whole new way. I was bummed when they closed down.
Until I discover Rivet. Like Umano, Rivet reads to you all the latest ne...

I’ve Never Had So Much Fun Cleaning Out My Closet
My closet before! I truly believe I’ve found my spirit animal — it’s Marie Kondo.
I’ve written before about her book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing. But this week I finally got around to listening to the entire audiobook and I have to admit I’m a convert (mostly.)
Now I understand why she’s such a rockstar in Japan and why there is a waiting list to work with her!
In her book, Marie explains that she started “tidying” when she was 5 ye...

Get More Organized Now with Harvesting Happiness
I was kindly invited on as a guest tothe Harvesting Happiness Show. We talkedabout my book, Listful Thinkingandhow you can use lists to live a happy life.
The show also featured Daniel Levitin who talks about the science behind getting organized.
He touched on a few scientific reasons why multitasking is bad for you, which made me so happy to hear as multitasking is such a pet peeve of mine. But unfortunately it’s such a classic pitfall that so many people fall down!
The interview is embedded...

Make This List to Get More Out of Your Day
From CEOs to janitors, we all have the same problem – we don’t have enough time.
In fact, when you think about it, time is an equalizer. That’s because we all only get 24 hours.
Even the President is forced to squeeze all his tasks into that 24-hour time frame.
So how do we do it?
I recently visited the Google headquarters with my husband in Mountain View, CA. Our gracious guide Gopi Kallayil discussed this conundrum with us as he showed us around the gorgeous campus.
At one point he aske...

How To Read Twice As Much In Half The Time
I love reading. I’ve always been a book worm. In school I would start a new book every few days.
While I still try to read as much as possible, I’m a little ashamed to admit down to about one book a month (if that!)
The slower I progress through my book list, the more guilty I feel.
The problem with reading is that it doesn’t really fit in with our “on-the-go” lifestyle. You can’t read a book while you walk (unless you are exceptionally talented). Which is why I’ve started listening to audi...

Listful Thinking Goes International
Guess who is going international? I’m so excited and I just had to share with all of you.
When my book Listful Thinking was published in January 2015, it was exciting to think about all the people out there who would read it. However, I had never imagined quite how far that reach could go.
I was recently excited to discover that my book has been translated into Spanish and Chinese!
Isn’t that so cool?
While I write this blog from an American perspective I do believe that lists are universa...

Be Less Forgetful With These Apps
Here’s a secret — I’m pretty forgetful. I really need to write things down immediately or they fly right out of my head. Between working as a news producer and managing this blog I have a lot to remember. I rely heavily on lists of course and programs like Asana, but sometimes things fall through the gaps. So I’m always looking for new technology to help me keep track of everything I need to remember.
Here are some of the new apps I’ve been trying lately:
Any.do – Any.do allows you to keep a...

The Most Productive Tricks Learned Over Drinks
It’s amazing what you can learn over drinks. Really.
What was it that Ernest Hemingway said? “Write drunk, edit sober.” Ok so that doesn’t perfectly make my point but it’s a good saying nevertheless.
Recently I was invited as a guest at the LadyDrinks Author Series Dinner in New York City for my book Listful Thinking. My friend and fellow newswoman Joya Dass runs the events and I’m thankful she asked me to participate. The room was filled with entrepreneurs, doctors, teachers, journalists a...

9 Instant Ways to Boost Your Mood Now
I’m generally a positive person, but I have my off days like everybody else.
When we’re feeling down or a little sluggish we tend to go a bit slower, and we’re more likely to put off important tasks. There’s nothing wrong with being sad from time to time – as we learned from the movie Inside Out (how cute are those characters?) But sometimes you need a quick pick me up to get your day going again.
Here are some ways I make my day better instantly:
1. Dance it out – Solo-dance parties can b...

Quicker Than a Celeb Marriage — Zirtual Is Back
UPDATE: This is a correction to a post I wrote this week called, “Outsourcing Site Zirtual Goes Bye Bye…Don’t Panic.”
Great news…you really don’t have to panic…
Zirtual is BACK!
Yep — just like that.
In the blink of an eye all those annoying tasks you didn’t want to doyourself —can be outsourced to a Zirtual assistant again!
I’ve rarely had to cover breaking news on this blog — I reserve that for my day job as a TV producer. But I’m excited to bring you this up-to-the-minute update.
I heard f...
