For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.’ (John 6:35 NIVUK)

Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.  (John 6:35 NIVUK)

Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then is there no healing for the wound of my people? (Jeremiah 8:22 NIVUK)

To make the wounded whole;

There is a balm in Gilead

To heal the sin-sick soul.  (Traditional spiritual)

I am a rose[b] of Sharon,

a lily of the valleys.  (Song of Solomon 2:1 NIVUK)

There is not much of a consensus on why Jesus might be known traditionally as the Rose of Sharon, except that he is the lover of our soul, as allegorised in the Song of Solomon.  But I like this photo of a cistus or rock-rose which flowers in the Middle East and has five wounds.

Simon Peter answered him, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.’ (John 6:68-69 NIVUK)

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, ‘Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.’ (Matthew 2:1-3 NIV)

‘Are you the king of the Jews?’ asked Pilate.

‘You have said so,’ Jesus replied. (Mark 15:2 NIV)

What shall I do, then, with the one you call the king of the Jews?’ Pilate asked them.

‘Crucify him!’ they shouted. (Mark 15: 12-13 NIV)

It was nine in the morning when they crucified him.  The written notice of the charge against him read: THE KING OF THE JEWS.(Mark 15:25-26 NIV)

He came to Jesus at night and said, ‘Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.’ (John 3:2 NIVUK)

Then Nathanael declared, ‘Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel.’ (John 1:49 NIVUK)

‘What do you want me to do for you?’ Jesus asked him. The blind man said, ‘Rabbi, I want to see.’ (Mark 10:51 NIVUK)

When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. ‘In Bethlehem in Judea,’ they replied, ‘for this is what the prophet has written: ‘“But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.”’ (Matthew 2:4-6 NIVUK )

But what about you?’ he asked. ‘Who do you say I am?’ Simon Peter answered, ‘You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.’ (Matthew 16:15-16)

The woman said, ‘I know that Messiah’ (called Christ) ‘is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.’ Then Jesus declared, ‘I, the one speaking to you – I am he.’ (John 4:25-26)

The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, ‘We have found the Messiah’ (that is, the Christ).  And he brought him to Jesus. (John 1:41-42 NIV)

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, (Romans 5:1 NIV)

He proclaimed the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ – with all boldness and without hindrance! (Acts 28:31 NIV)

Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. (John 17:3 NIV)

For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. (John 1:17 NIV)

‘I am the Alpha and the Omega,’ says the Lord God, ‘who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.’ (Revelation 1:8 NIV)

He said to me: ‘It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. (Revelation 21:6 NIV)

I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. (Revelation 22:13 NIV)

I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, “My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.” (Isaiah 46:10 NIV)
