Interview: CeeCee James Author of Ghost No More Series

What motivated you to tell your story?

We all have a story. I wrote my books because I hoped it would encourage someone else out there that their story is important. There are many tragic experiences in this world that people have overcome. I used to think mine was insignificant by comparison. But I did overcome it, and that victory matters. I’m hoping that my books will encourage other people to celebrate their victories, and know that where ever they are in their journey of recovery, they aren’t alone.

Tell us some more about yourself:

I love to write, paint with watercolors, and eat chocolate. Not necessarily all at the same time. I love to do pranks too, usually just on my poor husband who luckily puts up with me and lets me think I’m clever. One of my favorite pranks was sewing his work t-shirt neck-hole shut on April Fool’s (I made him lasagna that night to make up for it.)

He does a few on me- his last one was hiding an old helium birthday balloon under the covers at night. I had just finished a spooky story, and as the last one awake, I checked the doors and turned off the lights. As I climbed into bed this apparition rose out of the covers, and I screamed….until I heard him laugh

Lost No More

Jim grew up with fear. Fear of his abusive, alcoholic father… but an even greater fear that he would follow in his father’s footsteps. That’s what his mother always told him – over and over again – even though Jim spent all his time trying to shield his little brothers from the bullying and abuse.

Now Jim has met the girl of his dreams and he finally dares to think of a new life.

But when his worst nightmare happens, he finds himself falling into the same dark hole his father inhabited, despite everything he does to fight against it.

Is there still hope for Jim? Can he change in time and prove his mother wrong?

Based on a True Story, Lost No More is the second book of the Ghost No More Series, although it can be read as a stand alone too.

Brooke Williams — How do you juggle family life and writing life?

Very very carefully!! I dropped my baby once at 5 months old and the emergency room visit was not something I ever want to experience again! But seriously, the juggling I hard, but it’s all about priorities. While I love writing more than any other job I’ve had or could imagine having, I love my family SO much more. My girls come first and that’s that. Writing gets the leftovers, which means I get about one hour a day to write. My oldest daughter is in kindergarten and my youngest is 21 months old and naps about an hour a day. That’s when I write! And that’s it! I get up very early in the morning and occasionally I’ll get a little in then as well, but my youngest gets up early too so I don’t generally get much, if anything, in. And I can’t write at night because I’m simply too tired from the long day!

I often wish I had more time for writing because there are SO many things I want to do and SO many stories I would love to tell. But I remind myself that my girls are growing fast and they will both be in school before I know it. At that time, I will have all day everyday to devote to my fiction writing as well as my freelance writing business. And I will look back on the days I’m in now and wish I could go back, I just know it! Until the time when I HAVE more time, I enjoy every minute I get to be with my girls. Their giggles and smiles and glittery mischievous eyes are worth every second I give them. And my fingers fly in the one-hour I get to spend on my writing!

The key to success in juggling is to never take on more than you can handle. I am very careful about the freelance jobs I accept and take on. I have to realistically believe that I can get the job done by the deadline with ease, given my one-hour a day to work situation. I have turned things down because I don’t think I can handle them in my timeframe. I hate to do it, but I’m not going to sacrifice sleep or time with my daughters. I have overwhelmed myself a few times to know how I feel and I don’t like it. I don’t want to panic and have to stay up late. Sleep is too precious right now!

I wrote “Wrong Place, Right Time” at a frenetic pace because I was highly pregnant at the time and desperate to get the story out before the baby was born! I knew once my youngest came along I would have next to no time to write for a while and I had prepared my freelance clients for that. But I couldn’t prepare the characters in that story! They wanted their story told and they weren’t going to have it any other way! Luckily, my daughter was several days late and the novella came together before her birth.

So while juggling novel releases, new projects, many different clients, and a family, among other things is not easy, I’ve always said when I’m not busy…I’m bored! And I can honestly say that at this stage in my life, I am NEVER bored!
