Character Sketch 11: Katrina Sligo of Captured by the Hawk

 

Katrina uses different aliases in Captured by the Hawk . She is beautiful red-haired Mistress Trina Sligo, daughter of the Solarian ambassador, when she visits the imperial court. In secret, she haunts the sleezier spaceports disguised as Grey Kat and steals the Emperor’s codes. In this role, she is captured by strangers and taken to Captain Black Hawk’s ship. Hawk is a notorious space pirate and he bargains for her expertise in stealing codes. But, their heist goes terribly wrong and the Emperor’s troops pursue them across the galaxy in this fun and fast-paced space opera.

 

Second Chances in Space

A series of loosely connected novellas and short novels. Each story stars a widow and/or a widower, spies and/or space pirates.

Character Sketch 10: Growler, the Black Jaguar in my Secret Supers Series

 

Growler is a large black jaguar cat and the animal companion of Toby Ryan in my Secret Supers series. He flies with Toby to search for villains. As a super-powered animal, Growler can shift into a winged cat or a black motorcycle. The flying horse, Rockette, calls him boss cat, since Growler sends instructions to the super-animals.

Character Sketch 9: Toby Ryan

 

Toby Ryan is the hunky biker with many secrets when Estelle meets him near the beginning of the first book, Super Starrella . They are both students at the same university, and she gradually discovers his secret identities. He runs the Jags gang as a cover for the secret supers, a vigilante group with super powers. His birth name is Tobarian, and his ancestors came from a distant planet. His on-and-off romance with Estelle adds poignancy to their adventures. They contend with hostile aliens in different shapes in the three main stories of the series.

Character Sketch 8: Estelle Wright aka Super Starrella

 

Estelle Wright is a freshman at college. In the first story, Super Starrella , she gains superpowers and the flying horse Rockette. Estelle adopts the alias of Super Starrella and flies over the streets at night searching for the villains. Estelle is aided by hunky biker, Toby Ryan. Their budding romance turns rocky in the second book, Starrella Falls , and revives in the third, Gargoyle Hunt . The first two stories are set in and around a fictious version of Atlanta, Atalanta, and the third story moves to Oxford, UK.

Happy New Year with Character Sketch 7: Rockette the Flying Mare

 

Happy New Year!

Rockette is a fun, quirky character in my superhero series, Secret Supers . In the first book, Super Starrella , Rockette is a neglected mare who is ‘adopted’ by Estelle Wright. After her superpowers are induced, the mare and Estelle communicate telepathically. Rockette can morph into a winged horse or a pigeon. Super Starrella rides Rockette to chase the murderous villains lurking in the streets of Atalanta. Rockette’s snarky dialog channels Captain Haddock of the TinTin stories.

Character Sketch 6: Kiron Arqin Ramis

 

Kiron is an alien Watcher in Europa , my SciFi thriller and romance. His people are amphibious, equally at home on land or water. They maintain an outpost on Jupiter’s moon to observe human activities. Kiron breaks the law to save Nikki Bell’s life when she slips to the bottom of a crevasse in the ice crust of Europa. Despite his reprimand, he meets her in secret, provoking more problems.

The story of Nikki and Kiron continues in the next two books in the series, Rishalt and Jupiter . They also appear as minor characters in the next books in the series.

Character Sketch 5: Dr. Nikki Bell

 

Nikki Bell is a marine biologist and the female lead in Europa , my SciFi thriller and romance. She uses miniature oxygen extractors in her nostrils to dive underwater and study the alien life in the oceans of Jupiter’s moon. Her spacecraft crashes in the beginning of the book, and her life is saved by a mysterious red-haired man. Her search for this unknown savior leads her to discover the alien Warrish Watchers and their submarine outpost. The oceans hold other hazards, and weird lifeforms, both amiable and deadly. 

When disaster strikes, Nikki’s friendship with alien merman, Kiron Arqin Ramis, forges an uneasy alliance between their people. Their story continues in the next two books in the series, Rishalt and Jupiter . Nikki and Kiron are minor characters in the next books in the series.

Character Sketch 4: Sa Kamizan Veedak

 

Sa Kamizan Veedak is an alien Atrapako from the planet of Vkani, and the protagonist in The Lady is Blue . Big and covered in blue scales, he is formidable and cunning. He led his exiled people on a traumatic space voyage from their desolate home world to the fertile planet of Eden. Friendly humans live in a small colony on Eden. He meets Dr. Lucy Stannis at the reception to welcome the alien visitors and is intrigued by her beauty and quick wit. Their friendship makes him question his people’s plan to seize the planet. But, he cannot change the rigid culture of his people. Read The Lady is Blue to learn how he solves the problem.

Character Sketch 3: Dr. Lucy Stannis

 

Lucy Stannis, Chief Biologist of the small colony on the distant planet of Eden, is the female lead in my Sci-Fi adventure and alien romance, The Lady is Blue . Her story begins when an alien spaceship arrives in the spaceport. Lucy wangles a meeting with Sa Kamizan Veedak, the blue-scaled Captain of the alien ship. They are both hiding secrets. Their banter and rollercoaster friendship enliven the story. The Atrapako have a nefarious plan to conquer the colony, which squashes Lucy’s friendship with Sa Kamizan. Read the book to learn how Lucy solves the problem.

 The first book was written some decades ago and published in 2014. The same year, I published the sequel and my first series, Atrapako on Eden. 

The adventures of Lucy and Sa Kamizan continue in the sequel, Dragons of Vkani .

They have ‘guest’ appearances in the third book, Trapped on Vkani.

Character Sketch 2: Grand Master Athanor Griffin

 

In the first book of my epic SciFi fantasy series, Grand Masters’ Galaxy , Athanor Griffin is the youngest of the twelve Grand Masters on the Council. He defies the prophesy of their doom by choosing Violet Hunter as his Pawn in the beginning of Grand Master’s Pawn . At first, he speaks to Violet Hunter via a stone griffin. His castle on an isolated planet is decorated with statues and images of griffins. 

Athanor is the point-of-view character in the short prequel, Grand Master’s Cat.

 This image shows Athanor in the library of his castle. 

The Griffin has glowing blue eyes to match his blue aura. As a Grand Master, he must shield his lethal aura to walk among normal people. He develops during the series. Once he recognizes Violet’s strength, he uses her power as a weapon to destroy their enemies on the Council.  With Violet’s help, he grows from a lonely underdog to one of the most powerful Grand Masters on the Council. You’ll have to read the books to learn how he achieves this eminent status.
