Copper -scaled Seltos and steel-blue Elfrise - snippet from COSMIC LOCK for #WeWriWa #SciFi

Welcome to another Sunday with Weekend Writing Warriors .
Enjoy a little distraction from pandemic worries. Meet writers in various genres and read 8-10 sentence snippets of their stories. Find a new author and sample their work.
My fiction writing is temporarily on hold while I convert my course to an online format. Meanwhile, I’m offering snippets from Cosmic Lock , the sixth book in my epic science fantasy series. The book is available at all major vendors.
This week, I’ll continue the scene where empath Violet and her 13-month old son Varan are visiting their dragon friends. In previous snippets you met Ythris, the Black Dragon, his mate, Silver Istrelle, and their son Istros.
You can read last week’s snippet at https://auroraspringer.blogspot.com/2020/08/welcome-to-anothersunday-with.html
The final lines were: Istrelle pointed her muzzle to an opening in the side of the main cave. “They are sleeping in there.”
This week, we move to another couple of Violet’s dragon friends.
Violet asked, “Have they recovered from the flight across the fiery Rift?”
“My brother fares well, although blue Elfrise remains weakened by the arduous transit.”
“If you will watch our sons, I’ll examine the blue dragoness.” Leaving Varan with Istros and his indulgent dragon parents, Violet crossed to the newly excavated chamber. The flame of an oil lamp lit the two betrothed dragons lying in an alcove at the rear of the cave.
Copper-scaled Seltos was curled protectively around the smaller blue dragon. He raised his head, blinked his amber eyes, and whispered, “Zyzost Violet, my mate is feeble still. Will you heal her?”
“Of course. That’s why I came.”
That’s the end of the official snippet. Read on if you’d like a little more.
She knelt beside him and Seltos lifted his wing to expose Elfrise’s head. Her eyes were shut and her steel-blue scales looked grayer than usual. Violet sensed her weariness and low spirits. Placing her hand on the dragon’s neck, she emoted healing empathy.
Elfrise exhaled a short hiss. One eyelid cracked open, and she murmured, “Vron Violet, your touch fills me with new life.”
“I owe you a debt for carrying me across the Cosmic Rift.”

Meet Silver Istrelle in snippet from Cosmic Lock for #weWriWa

Welcome to another Sunday with Weekend Writing Warriors .
Enjoy a little distraction from pandemic worries. Meet writers in various genres and read 8-10 sentence snippets of their stories. Find a new author and sample their work.
I’m giving snippets from Cosmic Lock , the sixth book in my epic science fantasy series. The book is published and available at all major vendors.
This week, I’m continuing the scene where empath Violet and her 13-month old son Varan are visiting their dragon friends. The little boy loves dragons. In last week’s snippet, the Black Dragon Ythris gave Varan and his mother a ride through the tunnel to his private chambers. Today, you’ll meet his mate, Silver Istrelle.
You can read the previous snippet at https://auroraspringer.blogspot.com/2020/07/the-child-is-fearless-snippet-from.html
In the final line: Ythris rattled his glossy black scales, dislodging his riders.
Clutching her son, Violet slid to the ground. She sensed her comrades, Seltos and Elfrise nearby, and the silver dragoness ascending from the great hall below. Letting Varan stand on the rock floor, she said, “Wait here. Silver Istrelle is bringing your playmate, Istros.”
Varan’s idea of waiting was to sing, “Dagon, dagon, dagon…” in a repetitive monotone, while attempting to climb up the coils of Ythris’ long tail.
Twisting his long neck to peer at the little boy, Ythris said, “Your son is persistent. Does he ever stop moving?”
“Only when he’s asleep.” Violet laughed. “With luck, he’ll be tired after playing with Istros.”
That’s 9 lines for the official snippet. Read on if you’d like a little more.
Soon Istrelle arrived with little, gold-scaled Istros scampering at her side. Her voice chimed like a bell, “Violet, we are delighted to see you and your son.”
Little Varan clambered off the Black Dragon’s tail and toddled towards his playmate. Istros, twice the boy’s height, flapped his short wings and bent his head in a greeting bow.
Violet said, “I brought Varan to play with Istros, while I visit your brother and Elfrise.”
“After the Griffin flew them here, Seltos announced his betrothal to Elfrise. He insisted we carve out a new chamber for them.” Istrelle pointed her muzzle to an opening in the side of the main cave. “They are sleeping in there.”

The child is fearless - snippet from COSMIC LOCK for #WeWrWa #SciFi Fantasy

Welcome to another Sunday with Weekend Writing Warriors . Enjoy a little distraction from pandemic worries. Meet writers in various genres and read 8-10 sentence snippets of their stories. Find a new author and sample their work. I’m giving snippets from Cosmic Lock , the sixth book in my epic science fantasy series. With the unpleasant prospect of moving all my classes online next month, I made a push to finish the book and it’s now available for preorder at most places. I’ll continue the scene where empath Violet and her 13-month old son Varan are visiting their dragon friends. The little boy loves dragons. Last week, you met the Black Dragon Ythris. You can read the snippet here: https://auroraspringer.blogspot.com/2020/07/a-social-visit-snippet-from-cosmic-lock.htmlThe last line was: Ythris gave a snort of amusement. “Your son is lively.”
She laughed. “He takes after his father. He’d like to teleport onto your back, but I’m restraining him. I’m afraid he’ll fall.” “The child is fearless.” The Black Dragon offered, “If both of you mount my back, you can keep him secure.” “Thank you.” Violet used a psi pulse to rise onto the dragon’s ridged back and settled with her legs dangling at the base of his wings. She propped Varan in front and he grabbed a ridged scale.
Well, that was 9 lines for the official snippet, but I’m sure you’d like a little more.
As the great dragon stooped his head to enter the passage to the eyrie, the baby kicked his heels and chuckled in glee. Ythris lumbered down the tunnel leading to the spacious hall at the lower level. Violet sensed the dragons assembled around the firepit and the youngsters cavorting around the elders. Wallith and Brululians mingled with the dragons. Halfway down, the Black Dragon diverted into the narrower side passage to his private chambers. The smooth walls of his family cave were illuminated by the flames from a sconce of burning oil. Ythris rattled his glossy black scales, dislodging his riders.

BlurbGrand Masters Violet and Athanor Griffin return from beyond the Cosmic Rift with two shiploads of rescued children and escaped slaves, but their enemies have not been idle in their absence. Avalon is in flames and their baby son is missing. Finding him may be the easiest of their problems. They must unite the fractious Grand Masters, stop the bloodsucking Ixioths from enslaving sentients, and seal the cosmic rupture to prevent new incursions of the vindictive Nulls. The clock is ticking. They have twelve days to squash their enemies before their final venture into the alternate universe. Can they overcome the challenges and secure peace for the galaxy? Read the exciting conclusion to the Cosmic Trilogy, books 4-6 of this epic science fantasy series.

A social visit? Snippet from COSMIC LOCK for #WeWriWa

Welcome to another Sunday with Weekend Writing Warriors .
Meet writers in various genres and read 8-10 sentence snippets of their stories. Find a new author and sample their work.
I’m continuing to show snippets from Cosmic Lock , the sixth book in my epic science fantasy series. I am doing the final pass to polish this story and I’ll publish as soon as it’s gone through proofing. Violet has taken Varan, her 13-month old son, to visit their dragon friends on the hot planet of Sythos. Both Violet and her son are wearing protective suits and helmets due to the high temperatures and high levels of oxygen in the atmosphere. Dragons’ eyries are carved inside tall pillars of rock in the desert-like terrain. Violet and her son are waiting on the entrance platform of the tunnel to the dragons’ caves. You can find last week’s snippet at https://auroraspringer.blogspot.com/2020/07/the-dragons-of-sythos-snippet-from.htmlThe final sentence was: No more than five minutes later, Violet detected the approach of her friend, Ythris.
The huge Black Dragon stomped onto the ledge. His scales shone like polished onyx, and his head towered high above her. He lowered his long neck to stare at her, a fierce gleam in his great golden eyes. Offering the big claw on his foreleg in greeting, he hissed, “Violet Griffin, Zyzost friend, you returned unscathed from the parallel universe.” “We escaped through the Rift with the help of our dragon comrades, Seltos and Elfrise.” “They have related their tale.” Twitching his horns forward, he asked, “Is this visit purely social?” She squeezed his large claw, and lifted Varan up toward the Black Dragon’s head. “Entirely social on Varan’s part, although my visit is primarily to check on noble Seltos and valiant Elfrise.”
End of an official 9 lines, with a few more to follow.
“An impulse worthy of your generosity. Come with me to our chambers. Istrelle will bring our son to play with your zyzost child, and we can speak in private.” “Ride,” Varan demanded, grabbing one of the dragon’s knobby horns. Ythris gave a snort of amusement. “Your son is lively.”

Strategic Goals I’m aiming to write longer series and pump sales by promoting the first book. My longest series, Grand Masters’ Galaxy , has a short prequel and five full-length novels. I plan to complete the sixth book soon. Taxyon Space , my second longest series, includes four novels and a short story. The fourth Book, Alarik, was conceived as the start of a trilogy about the three brothers in the Flaming Comets Triad. Each book will focus on a different brother. Alarik is the oldest brother. The next two books will be titled Baswin and Karrik after the two younger brothers. Secret Supers has three novels plus a short story. Atrapako on Eden comprises three novels.
Plans for future stories
In addition to books 5 and 6 in Taxyon Space , I am considering two other possibilities.
One idea is writing a second medieval romance to follow Dame Audrey .

Available at: Amazon iBooks Kobo B&N GooglePlay
Another idea is writing a Gaslamp fantasy. I have a plot in mind for a story set in Britain in 1918 or 1919.

The Dragons of Sythos - snippet from COSMIC LOCK for #WeWriWa

Welcome to another Sunday with Weekend Writing Warriors . Meet writers in various genres and read 8-10 sentence snippets of their stories. Find a new author and sample their work.
I’m continuing the story in Cosmic Lock , the sixth book in my epic science fantasy series. At present, I am plodding through edits/rewriting the current draft of the book. You can find my last snippet at https://auroraspringer.blogspot.com/2020/06/a-family-breakfast-snippet-from-cosmic.html I have skipped to another early chapter with a new set of characters. Violet is taking her baby son to visit their dragon friends on the hot planet of Sythos. Both Violet and her son are wearing protective suits and helmets due to the high temperatures and high levels of oxygen in the atmosphere. Volcanic vents and fires are common on this planet.
Violet and her son emerged on the ledge at the entrance to the Black Dragon’s eyrie, a tall solitary crag protruding from the orange sands of a desert. Far overhead, flashes of lightning flickered in the murky red clouds of Sythos. Startled by their sudden appearance, the watch dragon spread its wings, reared and hissed a warning. An instant later, the dragon recognized the visitor and hissed, “Zyzost Violet, do you wish to see the Black Dragon?” Violet said, “Please tell Ythris the Black that I’ve brought my son to play with golden Istros.” The brown dragon swiveled toward the dark entrance, bent its long neck into the tunnel and uttered a shrill whistle. The scratching of claws on the stone passage preceded the hasty arrival of a small umber-scaled dragon with outstretched wings. It folded its wings and tilted its head in a question. Varan cooed in appreciation and waved his arms. Alarmed by the excited baby, the small messenger fluttered its wings and shuffled backward.
End of my ten lines, and a few more follow.
The watch dragon relayed Violet’s message. “I’ll fly on your command.” Instantly, the small dragon whipped its wings, rose above the floor and dived into the tunnel. No more than five minutes later, Violet detected the approach of her friend, Ythris.

A Family Breakfast - Snippet from COSMIC LOCK for #WeWriWa

Welcome to another Sunday with Weekend Writing Warriors . Meet writers in various genres and read 8-10 sentence snippets of their stories. Find a new author and sample their work.
I’m continuing the story in Cosmic Lock . At present, I am plodding through edits/rewriting the current draft of the book. Over the past weeks, my snippets covered much of the first chapter. To summarize, Violet and Athanor Griffin returned (at the end of the previous book) to find their 13-month old son, Varan, in danger. Null raiders had burned Mother Tingu’s cottage while she was looking after Varan. At the end of this dramatic scene, the Griffin family and Tingu teleported to the Griffin’s castle. You can read last week’s snippet at https://auroraspringer.blogspot.com/2020/06/the-griffins-castle-snippet-from-cosmic.htmlI’ve skipped a couple of chapters. This scene opens with the same characters. Note, the antagonistic relationship between Athanor and Tingu began when he was a boy and her naughty pupil. He was, and still is, prone to teleport out of trouble. Marriage to Violet has improved his attitude.
At breakfast on the following morning, Athanor winked at Violet as he bounced Varan on his lap. “If you wish, Violet, I’ll accompany you to the Academy to assess the condition of the children we rescued from the technos’ compound.” Grinning at him, she said, “Flashy, I’d love to have your company.” The White Mother groused, “What about my new cottage?” Athanor said, “Hanuman has graciously agreed to lend his powers for the construction. He will join me on Avalon this afternoon.” Tingu took a sip of tea, carefully replacing the cup on its saucer, before she replied, “In that case, I suppose I can watch your mischievous child.” “Excellent. We’ll go as soon as you’re ready.”
A few extra lines for your amusement: Note: Italics denote telepathic exchanges.
Varan giggled and demanded, “Out.” Athanor lifted the boy off his lap, saying, “Yes, Varan, we’ll play on the patio until the ladies have finished their breakfasts.” Violet telegraphed her amusement, “Do you think Tingu will finish faster without you?” “Exactly my idea. She can’t provoke me with her tardiness when I’m have fun with our son.” His idea proved to be correct. Within five minutes, Tingu had drained her cup and declined Violet’s offer to pour more tea. Leaving Zoe to wash the dishes, the two women joined Athanor and the toddler in the garden.
