Bad News: Delays on Endgame :(
Author, Kate Wrath:
This past few weeks has been… well… a nightmare. Almost three weeks ago, I finished writing Endgame. The following morning, I received a call with news that my dad was incredibly ill. They thought he was going to die. Needless to say, we dropped everything to be with him. And so began the long stretch of sitting at the bedside, trying to be brave, and putting everything else on the back burner.
We are incredibly lucky in that, so far, my dad has pulled through. The last span of days has been a roller-coaster ride of good days and bad days, with never any certainty or ending point on the horizon. It looks like we’re in for a long battle, and I’m OK with that, considering the alternative.
There are very few things in the world that can make me so casually set aside my writing and not even look at it. This is one of them. I’ve always been Daddy’s girl, and, though we’ve been dealing with health issues for years and I’ve been trying to prepare myself for losing him for years, I am simply not prepared, and I never will be. Since I got that call, I have literally gotten nothing done. At one point, several days in, sitting there while he slept, I attempted to do some read-through and revising on my phone. I just kept reading and reading the same thing and I’m not sure that any of it made it through to my brain. It was pointless.
Now, with things looking a bit better– he’s “stable”, but frail– I’m trying to get back to normal life. At least somewhat. We’ve managed to do some normal things like buy groceries (major victory) and get some sleep. I’m sure many of you have been through these kinds of family crises and know how it goes. I’m still devoting a lot of time and energy to Dad, which means that there’s not a lot left for editing and revising. And honestly, the revision phase of writing is always difficult and energy-draining for me, unlike the writing phase, which usually recharges me. I’m already exhausted, mentally and physically. So this last haul will be difficult, and it will likely take longer than it would have otherwise. And then subtract the three weeks that was just sucked into the vacuum of life. So what this all adds up to, as I’m sure you could have guessed after reading the title of this post, is that Endgame will be arriving later than expected.
I’ve had emails and blog comments (that I still need to reply to) asking me when Endgame would be released, and generally sharing excitement and enthusiasm over the coming release. I love receiving those and they really help motivate me. It makes me so sad to have to announce a delay because I know you’ve all been waiting for this book. And I’m as excited as you are about finishing the series. Also, I don’t feel like I can give you an exact answer at this point. I am planning on putting everything I can muster into finishing this book. I’m a driven person, so usually I would go on that alone and have a decent amount of confidence about a time frame. Only, in this case, I’m still living in anything-can-happen-land. The only honest answer is that I don’t know, but I’m going to try like crazy to keep the delay from being longer than necessary. Most likely, I think we’re looking at a matter of weeks, rather than months. And yeah, typing that, it sounds like a long time. All I can say is… I’m sorry.

Progress update: Endgame
Author, Kate Wrath:
Endgame is coming along nicely, still on track for spring. I’ve passed 60k words, now, which is probably around the halfway point, because it looks like this is going to be another long one. There’s so much to wrap up in this book, so many things that need to happen! Also, there’s a ton of new characters– some who will feature in the spinoff series that I will be working on when The E Series is complete.
My editor has been through the first few chapters and feedback so far is great, which is such a relief. I always sweat it while waiting on that initial feedback! Ah, the power an editor wields over us mortal writers. :p
Anyway, that’s the lowdown. Not a whole lot more to say at this point, but I’m still working as quickly as I can.
I hope life if treating all of you well!

Can you write a review for The E Series Boxed Set?
Author, Kate Wrath:
I just wanted to put a request out there to all you E fans. Can you write an Amazon review for the boxed set of books 1-3? I’ve just recently put the boxed set together, and I’m trying to promote it. However, there are only a few reviews on it so far, which I think discourages people from picking it up. So, if you’ve read the first three books, it would be great if you could write a review for the boxed set.
If you’ve already reviewed any of the other books, you can simply copy and paste your review over. If you haven’t written a review yet, please remember that reviews don’t need to be long or complicated. You can simply write your opinion however you want to put it.
The boxed set can be found here.
Thanks so much to all of you for your help! Reviews can make such a difference. It’s a way that you all can take part in my writing journey and help the series grow.

Elegy Teaser #3
Author, Kate Wrath:
We step up into it to find a single open room. Spectators are gathered all around the sides, keeping the middle mostly clear. A handful of people stand in the middle. The floor is raised at the far end, and on it, is… “a throne?”

Elegy Release Date + Rambles
Author, Kate Wrath:
Hey everyone! I know you’ve all been waiting for the release date for Elegy, and I’ve been putting it off. Well, the good news is, now that I’ve set it, it’s really not that far away!
Elegy is coming to Kindle on Monday, November 23rd, 2015!
Less than one second: how long it takes for everything to change. The story rewritten. The answers lost. The world turned upside down.
Eden’s life is in tatters. Too many questions. Too many answers she never would have chosen. With no time to think or mourn, she struggles to take control of her fate once again. There’s one thing that Eden has always wanted— find Oscar. One solution— ask for Matt’s help. So begins a frantic journey with high stakes and savage battles. Buoyed by friendship, hardened by experience, Eden fights her way through endless obstacles with the single goal of reuniting her little family.
But does Outpost Three still exist, or have the Sentries destroyed it, along with the last of Eden’s hopes?
Rambles
Look for some teasers coming soon. In the meantime, I’ve been working like crazy.
Thanks to a nudge from one of my fans (*waves at Karen*) I’ve finally gotten around to working on the print formatting for the last two books. In the process, I’ve made some changes to the back covers of E and Evolution in order to have a cohesive look for the whole series. The print editions of all the books (except Elegy, which I will get to shortly) should be available in the next few weeks.
I’ve also started writing Book Five. As a matter of fact, I’ve been making quite a lot of progress. Unless this one gets incredibly long and I have to split it into two, it will be the final book in The E Series. The idea of finishing up the series is bittersweet. Quite a milestone and yet… sad. But I suppose all stories have an end.
So what’s after that? I’ve been toying with a couple of ideas. One is a spin-off series set in the world of E, a few years after the end of the main series. I’m really leaning toward this one. There would be a whole new cast of characters, some big changes, and a very different story line. I’ve got a lot of ideas that I want to play with.
Another possibility is a kind of prequel (I know I’ve technically already done that). This one would be more a history of the world of E, telling the story of how the world came to be the way it is. Some of those answers will come to surface by the end of the series, but I think that answers and stories are very different. Answers are based on information– mostly “how” and “what”. Stories focus on deeper meanings– more “why”. So I am definitely tempted to tell that story.
…And then there are other things. Different things. I still have two books (and part of a third) in a fantasy series just sitting on the shelf, waiting for me to get to them. These books are incredibly different from The E Series, but I love them, none the less. I really want to get back to them, get them ready, and send them out into the universe. But again, we’re talking about a series, so I think that once I commit to publishing them I’m going to need to focus on seeing them through to the end, which will mean putting other projects on hold for a while.
Just to throw in a few more options, I have at least three more stand-alone novels with series potential just banging around in my head, trying to get out. And that’s really only the tip of the iceberg, because I see stories everywhere, in everything. There is no way I’ll ever write it all before I die. Someone really needs to develop some sort of direct brain interface, or something!
So, yeah! Lots of choices coming up, and I’m really not sure which path I’ll choose. But I’m definitely going to keep writing, because that’s my thing.
